I have now joined Club OLED. Which games look the most impressive?

Jesus christ this is insane

I didn't think I'd notice much of a difference in image quality but holy shit 😧

This oled wanking is getting unbearable
My "oled" is bravia 9 led
Literally no blooming in game mode with high local dimming

You got some black? well cool
White color doesn't exist on lg, which means all other colors are incorrect
Thats how colors look at one of the most popular oled tv lg c4

That ship has sailed.

That issue was solved two years ago for B3/C3/G3 models.

Yeah I watched that video earlier today actually. Then I checked the comments, sorted by newest and found some people saying stuff like:
"Recently purchased a G4 77" and was wondering if this fix carried over so I reached out to LG and they said that the G4 in fact DOES NOT have the updated algorithm to reduce the ABL interference. Seems pretty stupid to me to release a TV after you implement a fix for a known issue and not just make it part of all newer models TV's going forward. But they did just that."

"Wtf this is still happening to my LG C4 any time I watch a 4K through my Blu Ray player it becomes so dim immediately."

"So just bought a B4 and this issue seems to be back. Playing games on the TV, especially fighting games the auto dimming is ruining the experience."

So apparently it seems to still be an issue in these newer models. Although other people in comments mention that it's only a problem if the game optimizer mode is on, but if you turn that off you get way more input lag? I don't know. Rtings' youtube review of the B4 mentions the automatic brightness limiter being an issue (in hdr) as well.

This is the second time I've read this recently, but I don't remember people bringing it up before and oleds have been around for a bit now.
Is it only a problem with some displays?
No 30 fps isd a problem on all OLEDs. LCDs have a slower pixel response time and can create a slight blur effect on 30 fps or less content.

Doesn't matter which console

LG OLED 65 incher

Lay it on me bros

Edit: Holy shit these blacks are the real deal
Lots of them, but just now I was starting Death Stranding DC on peasant PS5 and not pro and wow is it a looker, I played it before on PS4 Pro when it released and sure they did an amazing graphical job with it. I distinctly remember also Horizon Forbidden West being a feast for the eyes, so I suppose Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered too, that Decima Engine 🤤🤤🤤

Both The Last Of Us. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

Cyberpunk, Stalker 2, Bioshock Infinite, Avowed, AC Shadows, the Metro games, pretty much anything you throw at it will look like you got a new set of eyeglobes 👀

I have a 55 G4 and a 77 G3. I can't say I've noticed auto dimming. Both TVs are way too bright. I only watch Movies, Shows and play games on these tvs. No cable or anything of the sort.

Any display that has a near instantaneous pixel response time will have the same "problem", but it's the games problem not that display. A proper motion blur will make it more playable on all displays, even LCDs. If movies didn't have motion blur, we'd be all be having seizures in movie theaters.

I can see more correct colors of Bavia on my WOLED that can't display white. HOLY SHIT!

This is almost as good as this:

I just got my Retrotink 4k, and those CRT emulations are probably the thing that wow'd me the most. Seeing each individual red green and blue phosphor and them blooming like a CRT would is crazy.

That plus HDR is just the most amazing retro gaming image I've seen so far.

Pretty much anything and everything looks amazing.

You will...however...grow to HATE 30 fps gaming. OLED really makes it look like a slide show and is the one instance where an instantaneous response time hurts the image motion.

However, games that have a lot of dark can REALLY benefit.
This is why I went with Samsung qd oled. They have game motion plus to smooth out 30fps. Doesn't look like 60fps smooth but similar to 40fps modes. Keeps latency to about 20ms I believe so still playable.

I played ff7 rebirth and ff16 on ps5 and it's way better than the standard 30fps modes.

Also for the C2 and G2(got the update later after those models you mentioned). Funny enough that was the last time I updated my C2 because I have auto update off lol.

I think space games are pretty good for "exploring the gamut". So maybe Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen or X4. Or even No Man's Sky.

Play Wukong but be careful not to jizz all over your brand new tv

Also don't forget to watch movies you love, especially if it's your first time having such a behemoth of a tv. I remember when i brought my OLED i went from 30'' to 55'' and it was glorious, almost like having a cinema screen at home. I watched movies until my head hurt, then i lowered the luminosity a lot because factory presets was like the old simpson episode where you see Homer childhood home with his shadow burned in from the tv

Hey I have a Samsung QLED too - what settings do you use on game motion plus for 30fps?

Does it work well?

Thanks for this. However his "allergic to blue" issue is really a personal preference and turning the colors to Warm 50 gives it this brownish tint that just doesn't look good to me. I adjusted it to Warm 30 and it looks much better.

So far the Dead Space remake has actually wowed me the most. Red Dead 2 actually looks really awesome too despite the framerate (still totally playable).

RDR2 have 2 separate HDR presets, fake "cinematic" and advanced that was patched after some time and is the correct HDR setting. I heard that some people prefer cinematic setting for whatever reason.

Also HGIG + game/console set to 800/1000/1200/etc. (depending on tv model) nits peak brightness is the most correct way to play, some people prefer dynamic tone mapping but in my opinion (and many others) it fuck ups the difference between the dimmest and brightest objects in many scenes.

You're doing good. Warm 30 is closer to Warm 25 which would be Warm 1 on good Samsungs and pretty much the sweet spot for games. Maximum warm is good for many movies, not so much for shows and lots of other movies, and just slaps onto everything a yellowish hue which can be oversaturated depending what you're watching.

Teoh is a calibration nut and wants to slap cinema 6500k/Warm 50/Warm 2 onto everything because...

'DiREctoR's InTENt' ☝🏻😑📽️

You need to activate motion plus on Samsungs, at 0 Dejudder 0 Deblur always when 60hz content ( 30hz fps fits in too) because of a gamma shift on Samsung's QD-OLEDS when in Game Mode, motion plus at 0-0 corrects it. Then if you want that sweet motion interpolation, Dejudder 1-2 is a good one with negligible latency, little noticeable artifacting mainly in HUDs and good smooth motion.

That's on QD-OLEDS from at least 2023 onwards, dunno when you bought your QLED, what processor has and what motion interpolation they're using, but try it at Dejudder 1-2 and see if you like the results. VRR/120hz doesn't suffer from gamma shift but since it's 120hz mode you lose motion plus

I just dont play any games that are locked to 30. That life has passed.

If the developers cant make their game run at 60 fps then they will not get bought.

Oh and it's QD-Oled or bust for me going forward til something else better surfaces or if someone can tackle my biggest issue with these tvs of today and that's motion clarity.

basically everything

the ability to produce deep, deep blacks affects all color reproduction--makes things look deep and rich.
and its especially great because we're so used to shit blacks after decades of LCD and plasma (plasma boys, dont come at me--i still have a kuro and OLED wins).

Don't listen to this guy. 30fps on OLED is the real deal and the way to play. The games look much better.

Horizon forbidden west, assassins creed shadows, and all of the big consoles heavy hitters look fabulous on oled

Yea if you're a fan of Microsoft Powerpoint. 30fps on Oled looks like a slide show.

When did this become a thing? I bought an OLED TV for the PS4 Pro, where most games were 30fps, and they were great.

I just replaced that TV with a Samsung S90D OLED btw, it was a workhorse for a long time and looked very good.

I just picked same one up to go with new Pro, first OLED I have owned.

Holy shit. Hands down the best impulse buy of my life.

Is OLED still a mess on PC?
With all the issues regarding IPS and VA panels, I looked into oled monitors, but I can reading horror storries about how it is on Windows. Even outside of the potential burn in issues, I keep reading things about how the text is blurry and uncomfortable on Windows when using OLED, and also how many oled (in particular QD-OLED I think) have chromatic aberration built into the panel... which is really not encouraging.

Oh and also I definitely don't want a glossy panel, I would hate the reflections. Is OLED really not worth it on a matte monitor?

Huh??

I never had any issue with OLED on Windows.

Chromatic Abberation?

Blurry text?

Burn in?

Lol. No.

I'm surprised by replies like this because it's stuff I see all the time online whenever I look up oled monitors, it just seems very common.
I often read about how OLED is great for movies and games, but very bad for desktop / work usage (not even talking about burn in here, just text clarity).
For chromatic aberration apparently it's mostly QD-OLED being terrible with that.

I didn't try an oled monitor myself so I can't say lol But what I read online is always terrifying and scares me about trying one.

Because people who've nothing to complain about don't complain. Have you ever seen people celebrating how great vaccinations work?
