I just bought Alice for $0.13 at EB.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Did I get ripped off?

It's one of those game I'd almost meant to play but never got around to. As I was rummaging through the local EB Games junk game pile, I found this marked for $.50, it rang up for $.13, and the best part is the guy just said "don't bother" as I was about to pay while half-sarcasticly muttering something about not meeting is NTLs or NTPs of whatever hip underground retail term. This is the same EB I managed to buy the 'Game Over' Nintendo history book for a buck.

Any other exciting budget-gamer tales floating around out there?

Alice is worth 13 cents, I think. It hasn't aged well, but I remember enjoying it when it first came out. Have you tried Undying?

I was at Toys R Us earlier today right

and I found a copy of NFL 2k1 for Dreamcast

so I was like fuck yeah a penny game

(cause it had the green tag)

I take it up and it rings up a penny

But the bitch was like man I gotta call the other lady cuz this isnt working right

bitch on the phone was like

"no you can't give it to him"

i was like wtf

I got robbed

..The cd-r I burned alice to cost more than that. It's not as awesome as I was lead to believe. The mechanics are lame, the voice acting is annoying, the levels quickly lose inspiration, I lost interest after the ridiculous river leaf ride. The pack rat in me says any game is worth 13 cents. A very young sibling or relative could find joy in any game, even something like big rigs, and you wouldn't have to worry about the disc getting scratched..

Well of course, they're gonna slap that bad boy back on the shelf for $49.99. You'd think the "2K1" part would've been a clue for her.

I nabbed a nice PS1One carrying case for $2 at TRU not too long ago. They can be a source of cheap-ass gamer goods.

I'd be amazed if I even take the thing out of its shrink wrap. I saw it whimpering in the discount bin and just had to give it a good home, out of sheer gamer conscious.

It's pretty decent. The platforming can get irritating, and the weapons lack frag appeal, but the eccentric world design and characterization helps to keep a hook. It's no classic by any stretch though.

I thought the Alice game was pretty fun. I still own it. If you like the Alice in Wonderland story, you'll like the twisted take on it. The chess level is pretty cool, as is
witnessing the Mad Hatter really go mad and torture the March Hare to death
.

Budget gamer tales? For a few years around here there was a Nobody Beats the Wiz store. Occasionally they'd get in some old videogame stuff and sell it for .49-.99 apiece. The finds I got from those sales were:

- a SEGA Master System II brand new in box for .99, which I sold for $60 online with a bunch of MS games that my friend gave me.

- an NES Power Pad brand new in box for .49, which I sold online for $20

This was around '99-'00. Haven't really found anything of note the past few years, other than the cheapo Dreamcast games at Best Buy when the DC was sputtering out.

"I'm the Whiz and nobody beats me!"

Pretty cool to hear about the Master System II. I always wished I jumped on the Virtual Boy when it was getting cleared out for next to nothing...

Alice owned.

KICK ASS SOUNDTRACK
by Chris Vrenna
I think I'm the only person that bought it offa iTunes.

I played it last year in one sitting and I still loved it. It was almost as good as when I firt played back in... whenever it came out. If the game wasn't trippy enough alone, I had a massive sinus infection and was on loopy drugs. After I beat it, I went to sleep for 2 days with the soundtrack on repeat.

Bullshit. In Alice, every enemy you kill leaves behind an "energy polygon," which shrinks and disappears if you don't absorb it fast enough.

These are nearly the only power-up in the game and it replenishes both health and ammo; the amount depending on its size when you picked it up. All weapons have unified ammo (and secondary fire). Theres no ammo crates to pick up. There's no health items to hunt for. You sustain yourself entirely through combat.

Not only is that not lame, but list the games in similar genres that used a system like that. If there's any, there ain't many. Especially during that time.

The combat had good weight to it, for what it was (you fought playing card dudes and chess pieces) and any difficulty with platforming was dissolved with an accurate projected landing point.

Alice owned.

Yeah, I remember that sale... got Sim City 3000 and Total Annihilation (best RTS ever!) for 0.13 each. Another good one was when I found a copy of La Pucelle Tactics for $2 at Circuit City a few weeks ago. Not the biggest N1 fan in the world, but hey for $2, you can't go wrong.

Bah. This game still has more variety, artistic value and pure soul than most modern games out there, and the soundtrack is simply amazing. The GAF is living up to it's reputation as the sour pisspool of gaming as usual.

I'd pay fifty for Alice since the game is just awesome. Hey, American when are we getting our hands on Oz?

Don't remind me of that crap. I actually bought those damned toys, and nothing has been said about the game since. Cool toys though, I'll give them that. And the 20" Cheshire Cat I bought made up for that blunder.

I don't know. It's a tough game to play through, as it gets pretty dull at some points.

Great to look at, though.

I've been pretty interested in getting this for a while now. I might order it off ebay or something. It sounds like an interesting game, something I'd like to play. =) Don't have many PC games to play anyways.

Well the funny thing is I just bought a GeForce 6800...and proceeded to do nothing with it in the three weeks I've owned it. I suppose I'll at least be able to place Alice at a really high res with 45696969X FSAA enabled.

Alice is easily worth $30.

6800? Hehe, you will enjoy it in 1600x1200, 8XAA, 16XAF etc.

Some levels look gorgeous in plain old 1024!

That doesn't even make sense. Why didn't they just fucking give it to you?

Had you read the entire post, you would've seen that they did in fact give it to me. :D I just thought my thread title was more amusing than saying 'got it for free'.
