I just bought Persona 4 Golden. Do I play it dubbed or with the original VA?

I doubt I'll get to it any time soon but when I do: will I miss out on some funny jokes as far as timing is concerned or whatever? Usually I find dubbed Japanese content unbearable but I was wondering what the general consensus is for P4 Golden.

Play it with the English dub, because the battle chatter is not subtitled.

I always play with original audio.

English dub is good. Original is better, but therue will be unsubtitled chatter that may get annoying.
For this reason alone, I'd play dub.

Original.

I quite enjoyed the English dub

Where's that neogaf.gif when you need it. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Different people different opinions. Wow.
Nah the meme is that we'll get exact opposites in quick succession hehe.

Anyway appreciate the input. If it means missing out on battle chatter or whatever I might just stick it on dubbed.

the dub is fine (although I miss PS2 chie voice)

but you're saying u usually find japanese dubbed content unbearable? Then go with japansese audio

While there's nothing particularly wrong with the dub it's not some kind of elevated higher standard than normal, like I said it's fine

I think the dub is stronger because you can listen to the characters and watch the characters actions instead of reading the subtitles.

In old games like this, a lot of the storytelling was conveyed with the character model's actions.

Any game that takes place in Japan should be played in Japanese, in my opinion at least.
I feel the same way. I played 13 Sentinels in Japanese because its setting while I played Unicorn Overlord in English because europe medieval setting.

Yup, I feel the same. If someone even considered playing Yakuza in English I'd be forced to suplex them. Not my rules, ....but I'm a man of policy and principal, and the rules clearly stated to suplex those who engage with Yakuza in any language other than Japanese.

It is what it is.

You don't even need to read the posts, just check the usernames. If there's anything remotely Japanese in there, they say original

Avoid English at all costs, unless you want to be subjected to this:

I vote for English dub. It was awesome.

Let me elaborate a bit: I defend the idea that movies and games should be played with original languages. But for me, even if it still holds truth for the movies, my mind changing for the games. I love Japanese seiyuu's voices but companies using the same people. Nearly always. And it doesn't click with me. That is same for English as well. Whenever I hear Troy Baker in every game my mind automatically gets triggered (and have Troy Baker here as well :messenger_grinning_sweat: :messenger_grinning_sweat: )

Even though Troy is here too, I recommend English voices for P4G. Besides it's superb quality, I heard new voices and they did their job perfectly.

And that is exactly why i wont play with english VA, it's like nails on a chalkboard. I guess if you are a yank it's normal sounding to you but anyone outside the usa it sounds like your typical saturday morning kids cartoon shit and annoying as hell. Western VA always seem to gravitate towards this it's like they can't do any other type of voices for young characters.

So far i have only ever appreciated one english voiced release and that was DQ11, the only time my ears didn't feel like they weren't bleeding.
