I just got a 3DS and what am I doing (ATTN Kiwi-GAF)

So.

Today I was in Noel Leeming just minding my own business when I stumbled upon an advert for the OG (not XL) 3DS for $199 which also comes with a free game via redemption. Since I was going to get one for Pokemon X&Y anyway, I couldn't pass it up, especially with the free game on offer.

I'm having trouble deciding between Mario Kart, Mario Land, Luigi's Mansion and Animal Crossing. I've paid little attention to the system and outside of stuff like Fire Emblem and RE: Revelations I'm not sure what other titles I should be considering. As far as SD cards go, what is a good size I should be looking at? I'm guessing 2GB isn't going to last long.

Amazon had a 32GB card not so long ago for $15. Personally I bought a 16gb last week for $8ish from bhvideo I think

ATTN Kiwi-GAF was a good thing to say because anyone in NZ gets so excited when we actually get mentioned somewhere

I don't have a 3ds though. I wish I did, I wanna play animal crossing

get animal crossing first then fe along with luigis mansion

8gb should be big enough if your not going all digital, if you are then 32gb. most retail games are 1 and 2gb anyway and only a few are 4gb

So will those games I mentioned fit on the 2GB card? The free game is a download.

Nevermind. Get a 16 gig or bigger. Sd cards are dirt cheap anyway

Animal Crossing is a 1GB download. Other games are in between 2-4GB though. You should be able to get a cheap class 10 32GB SD card, or at least 16GB. I don't know the prices of SD cards in NZ.

See if you can get a deal for a 32 GB card. Those don't cost too much in the US if you know where to look but I have no idea how it is where you live.

Most people on my friends' list seem to be AC:NL obsessed so that's probably a good bet. Revelations should be a good buy if you can get it for cheap. The other games you listed are also all good.

KI:U can be excellent but you need to find a comfy way to hold the 3DS first so I only recommend that once you've got used to your new toy.

If you've plenty of time right now and want to spend a few hours playing the 3ds, go with Fire Emblem.

If you've only got a 1-2 hours a day to play, get Animal Crossing.

Animal crossing is great fun in bursts but you run out of stuff to do after a bit until the next day.

Mario 3D Land, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. Animal Crossing should last you along time, but it is a game that is best played 30-45 minutes per day, 3D land meanwhile is amazing fun and imo the best game on the system. Mario Kart is great for the multiplayer. But if I were you I'd pick up Mario 3D land and Animal Crossing. A good balance.

Anything else I haven't covered I should know about it? A 32GB card will set me back around $30-40 for the no-name budget ones which isn't too bad.

Are you going to get digital full games? If so go for 32, otherwise 8gb should be enough for small indie games.

Probably just going to go with retail mainly unless the e-Shop prices are any good (which I'm expecting them to not be). I don't even know if New Zealand has its own store.

Make sure you have a decent class one. Getting a class 6 (or even a 10) will improve your loading time a LOT.

I strongly advise you to set (or change) your region to UK - you'll save about 20-30% on eShop purchases including foreign conversion fees.

My sister has been wanting to get a 3DS with Animal Crossing, so this deal sounds perfect. I'm not seeing the regular 3DS on Noel Leeming's site though, just the XL.

I recently bought a broken OG 3DS on Craigslist for $10 and fixed it without spending a dime. The case is cracked near the hinge, but it was just a loose ribbon cable.

I've been playing some eshop demos until I can afford to pick up 1 or 2 games to get going. I love how much love the 3DS is getting (and continuing to get).

Revelations is fantastic, don't let these people tell you otherwise, UNLESS you plan on getting the HD vers I suppose

Many thanks VOOK Jr.

Might be a YMMV thing. I assume they're trying to clear them all out.

Ah, okay. How does the free game download work? Is the Club Nintendo card in the box already or does Noel Leeming give it to you?

Bah, by the time I'm able to go check they'll all be gone. :(

Get Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan. Pick up Fire Emblem Awakening, too.

After that, don't touch the system until Pokeymanz releases.

get all of those except Revelations

Animal Crossing New Leaf is a priority

If he gets Animal Crossing first his life will be sucked in a vacuum of little animals and he will not have time to play the rest.

....Animal Crossing is the cheapest option, since will make you buy less games

You should play Far Cry 3. The kiwi accents and odd maori word thrown in are delicious!

When playing darts 'Bad luck pakeha' :lol Plenty of Kia oras and Kakite as well.

The card is in the box. Apparently you have to send them an image of the purchase docket and they'll send you a code.

What kinds of games do you like?
I hate video games.

Did I do good GAF?

Sell me on Animal Crossing.

Twice as addicting as it is frustrating. ACGAF is active and helps make it more interesting.

Also, You need a case. The 4 best cases IMO:

Official Nintendo System Wallet for DSi XL - holds 3 games and a stylus

Official Nintendo Travel Case - holds 8 games with room for several styli and accessories. I have it and it even has enough extra space for a DS Lite.

Nintendo DSi XL 20 in 1 Starter Kit - Comes with a bucketload of stuff you'll need like a Charging Dock, USB SD Card Reader, Car Charger, and even earbuds. Also holds 3 games and a few styli.

CitySlicker 3DS XL Case by Waterfield - holds 3 games with room for a few accessories. Also really fucking stylish

DSi XL cases like these will fit a 3DS XL by the way (the hard covers wont). I lean towards airform cases since they provide the most shock-absorption, but anything that's padded and secures your 3DS well will do. Try to get a case with room for a few games, an extra stylus, and at least a charger.

Also, just gonna paste this from another forum.

Yes! Represent. Great purchase - I got mine three weeks ago and it's been non-stop Animal Crossing. Haven't had the chance to pry the console away from my girlfriend long enough to start on Virtue's Last Reward...

Games are sometimes cheaper from nzgameshop.com (UK store, ships for free).

Hmm don't want to hijack your thread OP, but since our situations are really close together...
So I'm European and will finally pull the plug on an american 3DS XL. I shit bricks at the idea of dead pixels though ( 'o_o)

So to accompany the 3DS I thought about adding an Hori hardcase and an Hori screen protector. Are we good ?

And on the subject of SD cards... well I'm foolish enough to go seriously, if not full digital. What size should I buy ? 32 ?
I saw a "SanDisk SDSDX-032G-FFP Extreme" class 10 - 45 mo/s, is it good ?

An input on my choices would be appreciated, I'm a little lost.

Yes, that screen protector should be fine; I use it. That hard case would work but pretty much any sort of case will do.

Yes, go for 16 to 32GB of space. Most 3DS games will fall between 1 to 4 GB, so 16GB will fit 4-16 games, 32GB will fit 8-32 games.

Any SD card rated class 10 is good enough for the 3DS.

Did I do good GAF?

You have done the best thing as a 3DS owner. That game is fantastic. Ignore the others for a while and finish that game. It will blow your mind on how surprisingly good it is. Also, PLay ot with 3D on max, those effe ts looks sweet on it.

As for eShop releases, Crimson Shroud is really good. I think I put around 10 hours into it, but that also includes getting stuck for an hour or two. It's a great game with really strong systems, but it builds a foundation that it never really takes advantage of because it ends far too soon. It does encourage multiple playthroughs though.

Pushmo has already been mentioned, but it's a really cute and enjoyable puzzle game. It gives you a picture which is divided up into regions based on color, and you then have to slide those regions in and out to create a path to climb to the top. It starts really easy and gets really hard.

Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo is on sale right now, $4 down from $8. It tasks you with collecting all the acorns in multi-screen stages before the clocks runs out. There are medals to unlock by killing all enemies, beating levels fast enough, and collecting additional items after the acorns are done. It's got a decent swing mechanic, necessary for traversal as well as killing some enemies.

Picross e is Picross, which is great. If you don't know what it is, watch a video. It's an easy to understand puzzle game that is sort of hard to explain.

Ketzal's Corridors is a puzzle-action game I guess, or at least it looks like one. It's more action than puzzle though. You control an odd-shaped block that's moving down a corridor. There are walls with odd-shaped holes in them. You rotate you block (on all 3 axis, which can make it tricky) so that he fits through the holes. It gets pretty fast and crazy, and is more fun than I thought it would be.

$200 for an regular 3DS doesn't seem like a good deal...

He's in New Zealand. Get 3D Land OP,. Amazing little game. FE:A and ACNL are those games you'll be playing for months, get one if those if you're into that.

Sorry but I am so dreading to make the wrong purchase :
SanDisk Memory card Ultra SDHC 32 Go Class10 - 30 Mo/s UHS-I

Yes I know class 10 is the way to go, but I supremely don't want a mc that for one reason or another I would have to change immediately (well the size excepted, 64go is too pricey for me atm).

All ready to order, I can go for it ?
