I've been working on Un Sospiro, a piano etude by Liszt, for the past several months. It's a gorgeous piece, full of harp effects and "three-handed" figurations. Then it hit me - the Final Fantasy theme would fit right in. So I sat down at my electric grand and recorded a whole improvised 5-minute fantasy, I'm going to use the material and write out a finished piece, but here's a little sampler:

(See links at bottom for full version)

If there's enough interest, I could upload the whole thing, but it would take an hour or so and it's not perfect - I don't improvise much.

Anyways, enjoy!

Wow, that was improv? I'd like to hear what you come up with for the finished piece. I'm just starting out with piano, but I hope someday I can play something that sounds as nice as that, improv or no!

What does Un Sospiro sound like, btw?

When I was still playing, I loved Liszt. His pieces were so damn challenging, but I love 'em. I spent a whole year perfecting the second Hungarian Rhapsody, and considering my hands are puny, it took me quite some time. :)

I can't hear the sound piece right now, since I'm at school, but I'll give my impressions later.

Wow, that was very beautiful. I almost regret quitting grade 9 Royal Conservatory 2 years ago when I hear music like this, but then I remember the effort that's required to get good. I was one of those dudes who didn't know any scales or have half the required songs memorized until 3 days before the tests....I always got mid - high 70s, so I wasn't too bad. But wow, very nice! I would like to hear the entire thing. BTW, I'm not a big FF player, so is the melody from FF and the rest of the song from Luzt, or is this pretty much an entirely original creation? Whatever the case, I really enjoyed it.

why'd you stop ?

A whole bunch of different reasons. I started really early, and was pretty competitive by the time I left high school and almost went into music at college and even auditioned in a couple places. At the same time though, I got into a dual-admissions spot here at the university for the 8 year under/med program, and since my dad was faculty here, the price of 4 years of undergrad and 4 years of med school, virtually free of tuition was too good to pass up.

Once I got to college I didn't have access to a piano regularly, and so while I could still play casually, I couldn't go as hardcore as I had, and so learning new challenging pieces and devoting the time for it wasn't there, so my skill kinda stagnated and then slowly declined.

I kinda regret it; I really liked the performance aspect of it all. I hope to pick it up again sometime.

All right, I'm going to get the whole file... can anyone else host it? The owner of that site doesn't really mind but I don't want to eat his bandwidth to share with another board...

If you upload it to his site, I can mirror it immediately thereafter.

EDIT: nvm, fart's got you covered.

All right, here's the full version, if Fart or Cyborg wants to host it go ahead... I apologize for the background noise, I'll see if I can find a way to improve it but my hardware is letting me down.

See Cyborg's link below.

Like I said, it ain't perfect. My hands were sometimes ahead of my imagination, or vice versa. Lots of note mistakes, so-so transitions etc...

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Thanks for all the support too, I feel like this is just a great idea. The Liszt is popular to begin with, but putting a theme like this to it adds a whole new realm of possibility.
