exactly what the title says. i dont rememeber what it was that i had. i installed divx from divx.com. thats about all i have right now. :/

okay, now go uninstall divx and install ffdshow - it's less processor intensive and offers much more quality and options for all your divx/xvid/mp4 movies. i'd also google 'Quicktime Alternative' and 'Real Alternative' to be able to listen/stream both media formats without installing their bloated players.

hmm.. what about just installing the k-lite codec pack instead?

i hate codec packs with a passion. though they might've changed in recent incarnations, i've always found massive incompatibilities and enough hiccups to just stick to ffdshow, which itself is a swiss-army knife. it'll decode not only a host of video codecs including all DIVX, XVID and MP4 variants, but will also tackle WMV, H.26x, MPEG and about 20 other formats. the latest nightly builds also include an audio decoder that'll handle nearly every filetype thrown at it - MP3, AC3, OGG, etc, while also providing advanced features such as volume normalization, winamp plugin support and other goodies.

with ffdshow (including its audio decoder), Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative, you're covered for nearly every format you can think of.

I used to get the k-lite coded pack. I get the ACE mega Codecs pack now. I had some sort of problem with k-lite that forced me to switch.

ffdshow and xvid. turn xvid off in ffdshow. i do this because ffdshow doesn't decode all xvids for me, but the xvid codec does. then all you need is quicktime and real alternative and vlc player.
