i've been having problems with my computer locking up, or sound stuttering for a week now and couldn't isolate the cause. A couple nights ago, my network card simply disappeared from my hardware configuration in XP's device manager. It returned after a reboot, but the system locked up again, requiring another reboot. Now, device manager's telling me the card has a problem. i've uninstalled it and had device manager find it, but it continues to tell me it has a problem, and can't start the card. i've also tried plugging it in another PCI slot as a last resort. No luck.
It's a 3Com 3C905TX card that i got after having problems with the Linksys that came with Roadrunner cable. The Linksys would give me random reboots while using Bittorrent, which i found was a common problem with the card. Several users on the Animesuki forums suggested getting a card with the above chipset, so i bought one off of eBay for $5 plus shipping.
Now, i'm looking at getting another card. i'm on the verge of getting another 3C905TX card because it worked well, but i'm curious if there's a better card out there for not much more. The only real requirement i have is that it can handle continuous transfers (like Bittorrent), and that there's no known issues with VIA motherboards, which i have.
