Mr_Brit said:nvidia's cards are a lot better as it stands, at current prices you'd be crazy to pick up an ATI card especially with their horrible drivers and pathetic crossfire scaling.

brain_stew said:If that's your aim then I can't think of a more cost efficient way to do just that. So, go for it. Its a pretty good clocker as well.

OCing is as simple as moving a slider.
TouchMyBox said:Eh, while the GTX 460 is a really nice card, I'd still rather have the 5870 over the 480. And "horrible drivers"? Are we still stuck in the early 2000s? :lol As someone who deals with both nvidia and ati drivers regularly, I find they both suck in their own ways equalling eachother out.
Weenerz said:Few questions for ya brain_stew, I was rethinking my system, would downgrading from 480 in SLI to 470s be a gigantic difference? It's about a $300 difference. Also, which 470 would you recommend? I see a lot of hype about this Galaxy.
I am also looking to upgrade to a bigger monitor. I was looking to move to a 30" screen size. Do you have any recommendations there as well? Are there any 120hz screens at that size?

Is this one of good quality? The reviews are nice, the size would suit me ok and it's a reasonable price. I'm just unsure how to look at the specs yet.

I just want to know which is better between the AMD Phenom II X6 versus the I5-750? The only games I really play are Blizzard's, so SC2 and eventually Diablo 3, and also Batman Arkham Asylum 1 and 2.

6ms GTG on an IPS panel?Vhalyar said:Let's try this again...
The Dell U2410 is a deal of the week on the Canadian site (200$ off, so 499$ now from 699$). The reviews are pretty stellar and the screen can be rotated. I'm just wondering if 200$ off is the awesome deal that it looks like, or if there might be better out there.
There's a 6MS response time though, how does that translate to gaming? I've also never used a 16:10 monitor, I don't imagine it'll change much of anything in regards to watching movies and series right?
Weenerz said:Sounds good brain_stew, how bout a possible 30" display recommendation? 3D is a plus but not required.
Dragona Akehi said:Oh I forgot to mention, those specs I pulled out should be able to manage Dolphin well, right? Playing Mario Galaxy at 1080p 60fps would be very nice looking.
Jin34 said:Well if Dolphin is your primary concern, then go Intel. You should also get a beefier card. My system is Phenom ii X4 at 3.5Ghz with a 4850 512MB and when I turn on 4xSSAA I take a big hit, and thats at 1680 x 1050. My guess is that the memory is too little to push that kind of high res (4 times 1680 x 1050). If someone knows for sure then please correct.

Dragona Akehi said:It isn't my "primary" concern, but I can't say I wouldn't be interested with tinkering with it and PCX2 as well, even though I have a hacked Wii and an HDLoader for PS2.
Jin34 said:Well between the Athlon X4 and the i3 its basically:
i3 > X4 in emulation, X4 > i3 in everything else.
You should probably go one step up on the gpu ladder into the 5750/5770 territory. They have 1GB of memory which will help a lot at 1080p, specially if you want AA. Plust they are far more powerful. Your system @ load will still stay under 250W easy.
Dragona Akehi said:Well as I noted in my original post, they should be i5s, not i3s. I forgot i3 was only dual-core.
Jin34 said:You should keep in mind that some i5s are dual core and others quads, and looking at the prices, there is no reason to go for the dual core ones. It's only a $15 difference. If you are wondering why, it's because the dual core ones have an IGP on the same die, but since you are getting a discrete card, that is useless to you.
Dragona Akehi said:Definitely would be wanting quad-core processors.
ohhthegore said:Ok bear with me smart people, i gave my brother in law $1500 to build me a PC for gaming and schooling, he built it and it ran amazing letting me run mass effect 2 at full settings and everything. A few days ago he said he could make it run even better so he starts messing with the BIOS screen stuff. After he changes things the computer would crash, he tried going back to the settings that it was at before and now it still keeps crashing randomly and runs very badly and he cant figure out how to fix it, am I fucked? Is this an easy fix? or do i need to call a professional to come check it out? thanks for any replies
Alright then, the U2410 it is. It's a bit pricier than what I would usually spend on a monitor, but at least I know that this will last me a long time.Hazaro said:6ms GTG on an IPS panel?
Wow, I haven't been keeping up.
IPS known for producing MUCH better colors at a cost of input delay (6ms GTG is fine) vs TN which is down to 2ms iirc.
TN is has worse colors, has worse viewing angles, but it's also around 3x cheaper.
Also it will just have black bars for viewing 1080p content.

Buy a GTX 460
Sit back and enjoy awesome gaming for another couple years.
No need to do that yet of course but you might as well get cracking on OCing since its so little outlay.

CSampson said:Plugged my monitor into onboard instead of video card :lol . So I have visuals now! Fuck yeah. Anyways, do I just proceed to put in the CD for win7 and install? Or do I have to do something in the BIOS?
