But 1155 should have hexacores launched at non mind numbing prices. That's a benefit over 1156 at the very least :lolTheExodu5 said:This is honestly no longer a pro to buying a new socket, since Intel has been releasing 1 set of CPUs per socket these days.
1156 and 1366 are as dead now as they were the day they launched.
Silent? I like the sound of that. On my radar now.itxaka said:Just an FYI for anyone interested.
I bought a Coolermaster V8 (an another 4 gb of ram, it was cheap!) and the thing is gotta be one of the best cpu fans out there.
I went from having around 55º on idle to 65º on 100% cpu load to be on 28º idle and 40º on 100% cpu load. This thing is a fucking monster, and I can't stress how silent it is compared to a stock fan.
Fredescu said:Just to give you different connectivity options. My 4890 has five video outputs but it can only use two at once. Prior to the 5xxx series you were limited to two per card. They added Eyefinity in the 5xxx series to give you the option of up to six per card.

Since heatsinks allow you to put any fan you want on them, it's sort of a non issue.

opticalmace said:I don't understand what you're ranting about. You are upset that some people want to buy Sandy Bridge shortly after its release? It's their money, and SB will offer improved performance compared to the current CPUs (at the same price), so what's the problem?
The reasoning just defies my personal logic, that's all. I'm not mad that people are buying the new tech, it just seems like a bad move. I know, early adopters usually are the ones who get 'screwed' in terms of price and tech, but it's just something I wouldn't dive into in terms of motherboard technology, even if I would for things like... cell phones, or TVs, or even game consoles. I can't really explain it well. Just forget it.TheExodu5 said:They're not limited that much by mobos at all. The only big limitation with 1155 mobos is that SLI setups will only get 8x/8x on the PCIe. Otherwise, people are getting near 5GHz overclocks. What's the problem exactly?

just for clarification, I need the 5970, as I intend to flash it and mod it into my MacPro, thanks
I think you should be able to, yeah. I did it for a few hours. I didn't use CCC though, just the Windows 7 display settings interface.flyinpiranha said:Yeah, now I understand that, thanks.
I am curious though. Is there no way to turn off one and turn on the other? I've tried in CCC and W7 Display settings. It sees the HDTV and lists it as 1 of 3 displays but I can't turn off one of my Monitors and turn on the HDTV, it's just not detecting it.
I remember years ago I use to do this switcharoo in the settings to out to my regular TV and had no problem with it ... but I can't seem to get it to work.
Basically, can you have multiple things hooked up through the connections in the back and toggle which 2 you want to use?

flyinpiranha said:Hrm ... I know the HDMI cable works because when I first hooked it up and restarted my PC back when I first got the card installed it changed the screen when my gf was watching TV.
I wonder what is causing the issue. I can't get the HDTV to display at all. I've tried all 4 HDMI ports on the TV. I might just unhook the cable, then restart, then shut down, hook it up, then start it up again ... I don't know. Kind of at a loss here and my Optical Audio cable comes tomorrow too ...
8 days to get it working!

Before that, what inputs does your PC monitor have? Mine has HDMI and component, so I could hook it up to the PS3 directly.Vhalyar said:Maybe someone here could help me with a problem: I want to display the content of my PS3 through my PC. I guess it's like wanting to capture footage, except I don't want to save anything; just display the audio and video on the PC.
For that I would need a capture card/device, right? Would something like the Blackmagic Intensity Pro do the trick? Would it create some lag?

I currently have an AM3 motherboard with 2 2GB sticks of DDR3 memory. I am upgrading to an Intel 1366 based motherboard with an i7 950. Will I be able to use my dual sticks of RAM with out any problems, or should I get a triple channel set? Also is there any chance I can reinstall my OEM copy of Windows 7 once I swap motherboards?
What are your specs? CPU, ram and so on.Nolimit_SS said:I'm not very good at overclocking so I'm kinda lost in what you said.
I did some research and only changed FSB to 400 from 333. Ram is on auto and it uses 800 instead of 1000 so not sure if I should manually set it at 1000 or leave it like that.
Unless there's a bios or motherboard compatibility issue (qvl-related or otherwise), your current dual channel ram should work.ChRoNiTe said:Couple of question for the gurus.

Useless? No. While 1155 SB is an improvement over 1156, it doesn't invalidate it anymore than the first gen Core i parts invalidated 775.vocab said:I'm pretty disappointed that Intel is using a new socket for these so early. 1156, and 1366 are going be useless after these things comes out.
That 4-pin connector is molex and it's attached to the standard 3-pin fan connectors of your case fans. If you want to control their speed, you'll need something like a dedicated fan controller, or a in-line adapter to slowdown their speed.caliblue15 said:46db, wow. :lol really good air flow... wonder if that's as loud as my heatsink right now.
I do have one question on Case fans, mine end with the 4 prong power connectors that go into the PSU. On the end of that row of connectors like 3 in a row on the PSU, there is a 4 pinned connector that looks like it's supposed to go into the motherboard to allow you to crank up speeds or not.
This 4 pinned connector does not fit anything on my motherboard, am I just SOL on controlling my case fans, or is that supposed to go into the 3 pinned fan connectors on the motherboard and I just don't know how to put it on.

*snicker*
Mind stating specifics instead of just blanket statements? Yeah early products have a higher chance of having problems. Regardless, Intel's track record is nearly impeccable.
Why wait a year, and pay essentially the same price just on the off chance that there are minor issues with new motherboards? Come on.

That Foxconn socket issue? (They do many parts for motherboards, not just their own)Fredescu said:Also the early 1156 sockets had that weird pin contact problem. Not that it would stop me buying an early gen mbd, I think that's getting a bit too paranoid.

Yeah, 3.8 is probably what you will round about at, so that that voltage it's pretty nice.longdi said:3.8ghz is where most phenom 2 tops out comfortably without a major voltage increase.
imho, i would also neither lock the voltage at 1.3125 or use auto settings but i would use dynamic adjusted voltages of cool'n quiet. im not sure what its called for gigabyte.
longdi said:3.8ghz is where most phenom 2 tops out comfortably without a major voltage increase. next you should try to increase the nb L3 speed to around 2.6-2.8ghz. then do some stability tests with intel burn test for 20 runs of full memory, after which if passed, just carry on using your pc normally at overclocked speeds.
