You really think I need a higher watt PSU? Full spec is 2500k, asus gtx 580, 8gb ram, ocz vertex 3. I do not plan on sli and even if I did I'm guessimg 750W still wont be enough for 2x gtx 580's?

TheExodu5 said:
650W is plenty for a single GPU setup.

True on both accounts (although i think 750w is enough for SLI, could be wrong), as i said i was mentioning jus for future-proofing, im not saying you'll need it im just saying you might appreciate the extra voltage in the future, having some ground to not re-build your entire PC each time you wanna upgrade is nice.

Then of course, if youre on the budget on building your whole rig etc, you'll be super fine with that one.

God, shopping for monitors is such a chore. It comes down to PQ or input-lag, where the latter is about half the price (generally) so it makes you feel like you're getting a rotten deal quality-wise. And even if I go for PQ it won't be as good as my CRT, I wish I had enough room to just keep it.

Damn nuisance.
Dell U2311H

Best of both worlds. €200.
(check Amazon.de, it's only €180 there at the moment, no idea how much shipping is to Sweden, probably no more than €15)

For those with a fractal define R3, did you add any case fans?
I'd recommend adding a second front intake. If it's a reference Asus 580, one additional fan should be ok. If it's a Direct CU II model, I'd consider placing the stock front intake as a top exhaust, and then add two good, inexpensive fans as front intakes. For instance, a pair of high speed Yate Loons (run off the stock fan controller, so you can silence them whenever you want to), should do the trick.

Inexpensive 120s with good airflow: Yate Loon, Nexus, Scythe Kama Flow II, Thermalright X-Silent, Enermax T.B. Silence, Zaward Golfs

Good, but pricier 120s: Gentle Typhoon (14/15, or lower rpm), Noiseblocker M12-S1/M12-S2, or M12-PS/M12-P (latter pair are PWM), Noctua

Also, you may want to install your SSDs/HDDs in the lower half of the drive cage.

heading out to get my Thermaltake V4, been reading reviews and such and ive come to the conclusion that its the best case i could get with my current budget. Hope its not too small.

Well, just put together a computer for the first time. Actually wasn't too hard after watching that tested video. Only annoying parts were getting the board to line up with the IO shield and the damn tabs and cable management. I have no idea where/how to even hide the cables on this Antec 300.

Anyways, just went for a low-budget build.

Antec 300
Corsair 430w PSU
ASUS P8H61M-LE
Intel Core i3 2100
4GB G.Skill DDR3
Seagate 500GB
AMD Radeon 4870
ASUS PCE-N13 Wireless N Card

Came out to around $470 CAD after tax.

€12.59 shipping actually... hm, interesting. And it's 16:9... yes, yes I think I'll go for that. Rather have a good screen at a low price than a great but disappointing one at a high price. :P

And I can put a bit of tape over the Dell logo.

Thanks a lot.

*and I learned some German!

Sad to find that my new Q67 mobo won't allow me to overclock the K series of the Sandy Bridge - but the new computer is in house! Now to start the fun process of installing everything.

Thanks. I actually ordered 2 additional fans before I read your reply. I've ordered 2 more fractal design fans, I assume they're the same as the ones that ship with the case.

Fractal 120mm case fan

You think these fans are ok? Maybe put 1 more in the front and 1 on the top?

My Struggle: I want to build a machine, for a while I was going to settle with a M11X (Alienware) hoping I could play a few comming MMO's (Tera Online, PSO2) but I thought about some other games I might want to play. I used to be into PC gaming, but got out of the race since it was so expencive (grade school) now that I'm working full time as a Data Analyst I need a machine that I can use to practice with different programs such as SQL or Access, and I also want to do programing. I also want to have a computer where I can have an old school arcade setup and I want to buy Super Street Fighter AE for PC, with some sticks. Also Id like to do some PS2 Emulation as I have a grip of old PS2 games and I don't want to hook my PS2 up to a HD TV... ehhh..

I want to be able to hook my PC to a HD TV and not a monitor, and sit it in my room next to my PS360Wii Set up. I wanted to ask, the HDMI out on a PC, is that part of the graphics card? And what happens when you have two graphics cards?

Looking to spend no more then 3000... I was looking at some machines on IBuypower.com and I was thinking a machine with the nvidia graphics card GTX 580, but to have a mother board which could fit 2 or 3 of them... Would I have to worry about overheating? What sort of PC shells/cases are bad to use?

I was thinking of going with an i7 not sure what type of ram is the best either...

i have the same case and mine looks pretty similiar. i could take a pic if you want i guess. nowhere to put the cables really except there's a lil part on the opposite side of the way the pic is taken that i stuffed some cables in but mine prettty much looks the same.

the case is still pretty cool even if the wires aren't managed perfectly.

thermaltake v4 is here!

decided not to use it till the PSU arrives on Monday though :p rather have everything new at once!

Bought it from the Dell outlet as "scratched & dented" for $1289. Going under my desk so don't think I'll notice any minor case damage.

damn, still that much for something with minor case damage? I would have turned somewhere else immediately, such as ncix whom build the system with the parts you buy for an additional 50 bucks. Just crazy for the price imo

aside from only getting a 2600, he still gets a 580 out of it lol.

That's like $850 worth of parts

if you built it yourself and gone with a i5-2500k (lol that i7 isn't a model K unless you forgot that part)

I'd estimate it'd have cost you:
cpu:$220
ram:$50
gpu:$450
powersup:$80
mobo:$80
case:$80
os:$80 (or less if you're a student) (or free if you can get it off someone)
keyboard/mouse:$50 (or free if you can get it off someone)
some drive:$20 (or free if you can get it off someone)

and since you said nothing about a monitor I bet it doesn't even come with one so still that's $960 if you can get the os/periph/drive elsewhere.

If you have a friend with a thumb drive you don't even really need a drive either

$300 alienware tax :O

Yeah not going to try and make an excuse, haven't had a gaming PC in 6 years or so so I just went with what I used to know.

I'm sure if I went and built something out it would come out janky and buggy.

Grats on the rig man, welcome to the masterrace. Don't listen to the haters, that's a great deal on a pre-built rig with a warranty.

And then you go and do it anyway, haha. But hey, if you have the money to burn, whatever. Enjoy.
Get that trash out of here. No need for snark.

Im a console gamer first and foremost. I never have PC gamed in my life so im pretty much a noob. My wife wanted to play The Witcher 2 and countless other RPG's that are on PC so I told her I would get a PC for us. Knowing if I bought parts and build it myself would be the best route, I still succumbed to my impatience and bought a HP from my work for $1200. Which brought me this to this thread:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=439058

Well I upgraded it and now I have:

2nd gen i7 2600
8 GB RAM
500w Corsair PSU
Radeon 6850 1GB
1.5 TB HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium
Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
Blu Ray drive
Card Reader
Wireless card
HP 2711x 27' LED Monitor - "The HP 2711x is a good choice for users looking to get into a big screen, high-definition display, as long as you aren't too concerned with grayscale accuracy or extra features. Movies and games look awesome on this 27 inch panel, it costs next to nothing to operate, and its planet friendly. If grayscale performance and multimedia features are high on your priority list, the Dell UltraSharp U2711 is still the cream of the 27-inch crop. " PC Mag

All for $1400

As for a monitor, got the Alienware OptX AW2310 3D($315 with the PC). Figure I should have the matching set lol

Also come with the Alienware TactX mouse and Keyboard for free.

Prepare your flamesuit.

Pretty sweet system for prebuilt.

I'm a bit baffled here. My computer has 4 SATA ports, and the chipset (Q67 Express) says it can support 2 SATA 3 ports. Does that mean it figures out which are 3 automatically, or is it statically set? I see no labels on the motherboard indicating what's what - I'm on the supplier, and even they seem a bit perplexed.

Congrats on your new machine. Happy gaming. And that rig should make mincemeat of all the latest games.

OMFG LMFAO hahahahahaha, wow. That is GOLD. I sincerely hope that picture was taken upside down, but unless my eyes fool me, or if gravity works differently where he lives, it definitely isn't. Quite hilarious.

Upon further study, HP just has the whole thing upside down. If it was flipped, the 5.25 bays would be on bottom

HP you colossal retards.

I'll just further confuse you by throwing my hat in for the Corsair Obsidian 650D. I absolutely love this case. Cable management is great, it has a ton of great features like included fan controller, tons of front ports, easy mounting hard drive bays, etc.

It's cool, quiet and very roomy. I had no issues in my build at all (except the lack of a USB 3.0 header for the front).

Here's a couple of reviews:
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/corsair_obsidian_d/
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Corsair/Obsidian_650D/

I would just like to point out that after a long day of work I clicked that first link and the first picture I saw was the cardboard box, and I thought "that is not a very good looking case". The actual case is sharp looking (the cardboard is a bit lacking though).

Anyway, thanks to those who chimed in with case advice. I bit the bullet on the white 600T last night before other posts came in. Oddly enough the case was the hardest part to decide on.

HP makes the worst cases, my ex used to have one and god it was bad. But this one is definitely the worst I've seen, KoruptData you need to upgrade that thing eventually, give your new parts a good home to live in, they want it.

should I jump on this or fight the urge and wait for bulldozer benchmarks ?

In case you're on the fence, I say do it. The already ridiculous prices that Microcenter charges for the 2500/2600k plus the current $40 off combo deal they're running means a pretty insane savings.

Those are fine. You didn't mention which type of Asus 580 you had. Try what I mentioned earlier, based on which card it is.

It seems the SATA0 and SATA1 on my HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT is the SATA v3. And no, HP weren't keen on sharing the mobo manufacturer.

Yup. Mechanical is the hotness. Filco, Steelseries, Razer Blackwidow, or Wasdkeyboards. You want cherry mx blacks/browns for gaming, blue for typing.

pirata said:

I'd say. I'm a programmer, and I am way more efficient on some keyboards than others. My favourite is the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. I really love low-profiled keys. Makes fast typing way more accurate, since you don't have to lift your fingers that high to get to the next key.

You just got the two most opposing views on keyboard there is, I suspect. Try it out for yourself is my best advice. I thought low-profile was crap - "I don't want none of that laptop stuff on my stationary" - then I tried one at a friend's, and I've never looked back. It simply improved my accuracy and speed by oh so much

Any recommendations on a lcd fan controller?

I almost picked up a Das last night but didn't. Been considering the WASD one instead.

You mean this one, right? Sounds good, but apparently if needs software to work. Does that mean that it won't work when I'm setting up my PC for the first time (like installing Windows)? Would I need to use a different keyboard to get everything up and running, or will this one just work?
