You can overclock separate cards individually (at least with SLI), but 6970/6950 are two different cards, so that wouldn't work.
A 6950/6970 will work fine in CF. AMD handles the workload balance just fine running on different core and memory speeds.

would a Metadot Das Keyboard be a better choice ?
YES, if you can get one then get it. Razer stuff is sometimes good but most of it feels like cheap tat with bright lights to make you feel like it's expensive.

No need to remove it, use cotton buds and tissue. Also AC TC cleaning fluid but I use the wifes nail varnish remover.
I like AC MX-4, non-conductive.

Cool. I ordered some MX-4 from Amazon. It was pretty cheap but shipping (not sold by Amazon so no free 2-day shipping) bumped it to $10. I'll give this a shot and see what the temps are.

which will give you more joy, GF or another 560? which will last longer before the next upgrade?

obviously, 2x GTX 560 in SLI would give me more joy, especially with the slew of upcoming PC games like Skyrim, Guild Wars 2, BF3, even RAGE.

I was thinking of getting a MSI Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB, but then on NewEgg they have a 2GB....now I'm just confused. What's the difference?

the Twin Frozr II has 1GB VRAM, and the Newegg one has 2GB VRAM. 2GB 560 Ti's are rather hard to find.

I just purchased the EVGA 560 Ti FPB. I hope it's everything I need, I've never been satisfied with video card purchases in the past and it's probably one of the reasons I'm strictly Mac now.

my keyboard died today (ms split one) and am thinking of upgrading to a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Keyboard... anyone own one ?
Razer has dubious quality in my book. I was thinking about getting a regular Blackwidow, but ended up with the DAS, very nice keyboard.

question: I've seen alot of pics where gamers will leave one side of the case open(whole panel removed so it can get more air, like if you was changing you graphics card, you just never put it back on) but doesn't this lead to more dust? is this a smart thing to do?

I've overclocked my already factory OC 460 by about 10% using guilds from the internet. with no extra cooling. I kinda worried about heat even through the heat never really goes above 70 playing witcher 2. would this help? cpu is stock phenon x6 at 2.7 no overclocking.
Under 70C is great. Don't need to open your side panel.

tempted to buy 2x GTX 560 for $165 each

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050I1P2Y/?tag=neogaf0e-20

should i do it? the gf has been wanting the iPhone 5, so I'm thinking I may save up for that instead. iPhone 5 could cost up to $600 unlocked though.

What do you think PC-GAF, save up for the gf, or splurge on 2x GTX 560?
Ehhhhhhhhhh.
If you look at it as two GTX 460's it becomes less appealing. It's still a darn good value if you get everything working nicely though.
I'd say just get a 6970 2GB if Skyrim is a priority (for that memory for mods and crud). GTX 570 also good, but less memory.

If you have on 16xAA, or supersampling, texture mods, and a game like Skyrim/Oblivion/Fallout 3 you can go over the memory limit on your GPU and everything chugs.
For just about everything this is a non issue since if you had that much going on your FPS is low anyway.

I'm thinking of waiting until the new GPUs come out next year to upgrade, but in the meantime feel like I want to finally stick an aftermarket heatsink on the 5850 to at least quiet it down a tad.

Maybe I didn't search well enough, but it seems like a lot of stuff ( like the scythe musashi or the thermalrite models, or the Arctic Cooling models) is discontinued/too expensive or not sold on Amazon (If possible I'd prefer to buy from Amazon or Newegg).

ZALMAN VF3000A

Maybe I should just get an accelero S1 and cut off a couple fins to make it fit.

So, PC Gaf, I come to you for help. This past weekend I was having some problems with getting my dvd drive to actually go into my case. I got extremely distracted over the weekend, but I don't want to put it off any longer since it's a real eye sore.

The Case: CM HAF 912
The DVD Drive : Asus 24x DVD Burner

It just won't slide in completely, and I have no idea why. I don't see anything blocking it, so I don't know what might be going on.

Sorry for the shitty pictures, iPod is all I had in hand. Any help is appreciated. :/

I would also like to point out, that so far, regardless of which of the 4 slots I put it in, it jams at the same place.

Try taking off the entire front face- skip ahead to 7:30 on newegg's own video.

edit: also make sure that it's not set to lock position - or just remove the tool less thing and screw the drive down.

I have removed it before, same result. Tried it again, just in case... Same results.

Have you tried inserting the dvd drive from inside the case, out? Seems like that might be a way to solve it.

I had a similar problem when I was building my system. The problem was that a metal edge on the drive was catching a metal edge inside my case. I just had to press the bit of metal in while pushing the drive into the case. So my suggestion is to look around again for any potential point for interference where some edges are catching.

Take off the locking mechanism.
Also when inserting the drive get a feel for were or what it's hitting to stop it pushing through and that will solve it.
Also don't be scared to give it a decent push to get it in there.

Yep. I guess it was the same for me. Had to force a thin spoon and bend it so that the case would make enough room for the dvd drive to go in... Can't say that's very good design. Not sure if it was the case or dvd drive's fault but that was stupid.

Anyone have the 285.38 - BETA driver installed?

It was release today mainly for dat BF3!

- Increases performance in Battlefield 3 by up to 38%i.
- Improves overall stability and image quality in Battlefield 3.
- Added or updated SLI profiles for Battlefield 3, Dead Island, Diablo III, Dragon Age 2, Need for Speed: The Run, and Saints Row: The Third.
- Fixed a performance regression in 285.27 beta running Crysis 2 (DirectX 9).

To be honest I think those all-in-one corsair liquid coolers are no better than a decent air cooler.
If you want to go down the route of a separate pump, reservoir, tubing and liquid then do your research. It's not hard but one mistake can cost you a lot of hardware.Nowadays a good air cooler is good enough if you only want a mild overclock, remember the new sandybridge run cooler than the older 1156 chips.

I get idle 29c-32c at most and 50c under full load with the H100, lots easier to install and lower profile. two fans only. with four fans I'm sure I can get lower.

<3 EVGA.

I have 2 of these cards. LOVE THEM.

I've been EVGA+Nvidia for the last 8 years, and the first time I buy a non-EVGA card it craps out on me in 2 weeks.

Sorry I even thought about leaving the family, EVGA. :(

Canceled my Msi lightning extreme order, went to Microcenter and got these two little guys:

20% off, I saved around $350 over the Msi 580s.

The Microcenter deal works at the one in Yonkers, Ny.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to set up the fan profile for my 560Ti? Gotta get ready for the beta tomorrow.
If you live within 100 miles of microcenter go there and get a 580 for the price of a 570.

Do you need both brotherhood games? I'll buy it (one? both?) at a high... well decent price. =D

I need a new GPU my 3870s are getting old.

I run:

AMD 650T
4GB of RAM
Win 7 HP X64

I wanted to get a 6900 series cause I want to be able to play Revelations and possibly BF3 with decent frames per second. Any suggestions?

So the pc I built for my friend is not running anymore, when you hit the power button, literally nothing happens. No beeps, nothing. It ran fine for over a month so its not hardware incompatability, and it isnt the PSU as the Motherboard standby LED is on, and I swapped out the PSU and still no dice. The only thing I can think of is its a dodgy motherboard? Its a P8p67 Pro, has anyone had anything like this?

Maybe it's the switch?

OK, so I think I'm done. Again upgraded some parts but I won't go further than $2k so for the money I think it's the best I can do. Just wondering if it is a good deal and if the parts will be working well together for the price.

Would a 500w power supply be sufficient for a 560 Ti?
A good 500W, no problem at all.

Shut off, unplug power, reset CMOS, 1 stick of memory.
If still not working try shorting the power pins on the motherboard (if case is faulty).

I don't own it, but I know I'm probably not going to play it for months if not years. :/

Only suggestion is that you should upgrade the PSU to one in the Enthusiast build.
AX850 is a great PSU. CM1000W great for a bit of overhead.
