I have further questions, but I'm scared to ask them now.

The parts go inside the case. Inside.

I've had my share of pc-related brainfarts and their evidence are buried somewhere in older threads....may they rest in peace

I have a question, where's the best place to get refurbished graphics cards?

I want to get a 570 but the openbox/refurbished ones on newegg are out of stock and almost $100 cheaper than normal. For $250ish i'd totally go for that, especially since I might be able to sell a 4890 for around $100 after, it's really like only 150 or so.

Also: how easy is it to overclock a 570? I tried overclocking my 4890 and that went about as well as filling a dam with dirt. got about 20mhz or so out of that before it started artifacing.

Need some suggestions for a monitor. I've been using a 23" low end Dell for awhile, but the tearing is finally getting to me. All I want is it to have a decent refresh/response, which I'm assuming is causing the tearing, and it doesn't have to be super large (~24")

Ok, motherboard standoffs... I assume they don't come with this case because I can't find them.

They do. I have the same case as you. There should be a small black cardboard box that came in the box for the case and that should contain all your screws and stuff. They're small gold things.

They should either be screwed into the motherboard tray already (this is usually the case), or in a bag/box full of accessories that came with the case.

the Nvidia Fermi cards can go quite a way with decent cooling and some extra voltage

reference 570 doesn't have the stronger VRM design of the 480/580 though so I would avoid the extra voltage as much as possible, but you can easily get some more fps out of them

they always come with the case as they are case-specific

http://www.google.nl/search?q=mothe...=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1858&bih=1019 is what they usually look like (the only copper colored screws most of the time)

My 600T had them already screwed into the case and they were black, so I didn't notice them until I went to put the motherboard in.

Aha, found it. Thanks.

This is going to be one hell of an adventure.

If you want to overclock, I wouldn't buy a 570 that uses the standard cooler.
I have this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125384 and I really, really love it. Great performance, but still cool and quiet.

This one also looks good, but I don't know what "open box" means (I guess that's why it's so cheap):

I assume it's a card that someone used and sent back afterwards.

Watching now. Thanks.

I'm not sure if those videos suggest it or not, but I suggest getting the computer working on the mobo's anti-static bag, before installing it in the case. It's a pain when you get everything installed, and the cables all managed, and then the mobo turns out to be dead and you need to remove everything.

Ok. I'm going to try and get help with some of the motherboard stuff anyway. I'm smart enough to know that it would be all too easy for me to destroy hundreds of pounds worth of components. But mainly because I think I have hyperhidrosis and my hands get quite sweaty.

Despite me having had a few mobos come DoA, I still put it all in before firing it up for the first time. I have no idea why.

Any one got suggestions for a monitor?

Ok. I've installed the CPU and RAM. Was easy enough. I'm having trouble figuring out how to fit the HD into the drive caddy. It's a 1TB SAMSUNG HD103SJ SATA F3 and the screws don't seem long enough for the R3 drive caddy which has those pads around the holes.

Are you using the longest screws that they've provided? If so, they should reach without issue. If they don't, take a picture so we know what we're dealing with.

Wait. I'm supposed to use the screws that came with the case not those that came with the hard drive aren't I... time to screw the hard drive back together
last part was a joke

Bungieware dont worry about it, everyone messes up now and again, you just gotta hope you luck out and no one finds out about it lol.

I'll never forget ringing a video game store in RAGE after just purchasing a Dreamcast and seeing they hadn't put the Sonic Adventure disk in the box!!!!... As I was ranting I acidentally opened the back part of the case... and the disk was there. I have never gone so silent and hung up so fast. Lol

Dat white Corsair! <3

Is that a huge fan on the side panel?

Edit: It appears like it.

2 smaller side fans on the black.

This maybe my future case.

I did. I just assumed they sent me the wrong case. It was one those moments where you don't realise that something is the wrong way up. My first reaction was "ooh shiny lid" and it went downhill from there.

I own many computers, but they should probably be taken into protective custody after this.
I admit, I am lol right now :p
I think it was the please be joking by the next poster that got me.

New entrant into the $100 case category. Thing looks pretty damn amazing.

Corsair 400R Carbide

I've been a diehard Lian Li fan for years. I had my Lian Li for over 10 years. But the Corsair Obsidian 650D converted me. I got that case with my latest build and absolutely love it.

Corsair really is shining lately.

About the same with me. Went with the 600T White because the X900R was dropped from Newegg. Totally in love with it. The X900 just came back in, so I'm going back to Lian Li now for my Bulldozer build. Still though, they're just about equal to me, and would recommend both of them over any other manufacturer at this point.

screw you guys, fractual r3 is waaaaaay better than that corsair.

thats right, CASE WARS.
No! I shall be reasonable about this sir. They're two different cases with different goals in mind. Corsair is huge room with excellent cooling. R3 is all about silence. It's all about which of those two choices is more important to a person, which is totally subjective. Though, I've built a few R3's and the build quality is a tad lower than Corsairs. Haven't seen a 400R in person, so I can't make the call between these two specific cases yet.

mkenyon said:
Yeah, why not? It's actually quite feature rich, and you can fit a 310mm GPU in there.

probably because someone may find it ugly as fuck, but that's a matter of tastes i guess

:)

the R3 is for the sophisticated man, like robert de niro, the 400r is for the common man, like mark warlberg.

also clydefrog, make your pc now man. i've been doing what you've been doing (holding it off) for like 6 months until i built my pc last week. it feels good man.
