You should be ok with RAM that doesnt have big heatsinks on it like xms3 or sniper sticksTegris said:I'll only be using two slots to begin with, but I'm just thinking about the future. I doubt I'll need to add much more than one slot's worth before the motherboard will need upgrading I guess, so it's not really a big deal.

They should be a bigger jump than what we saw with the 5000/400 series to the 6000/500 series, since those were just revisions. And AMD's cards are supposed to be available this year, but NVidia won't have them available until next year.snoopen said:I'm looking at building for BF3 next month a gtx570 and bunch of other popular parts... However I'm reading the news about 28nm cards.. Any news if they will be this year? :/ rumours make them sound like a big upgrade.

Apparently it's a common error when trying to install SP1 simultaneously with other Windows updates. Best solutions/workarounds?

I think it's some type of CM brand thermal paste (as obvious an answer as that probably is), but the temperature benchmarks I saw weren't favorable so if you're thinking of using it I probably wouldn't bother.Chinner said:does anyone know what the thermal paste included with the hyper 212 + actually is?
Its rumored to be Thermal Fusion 400.Eusis said:I think it's some type of CM brand thermal paste (as obvious an answer as that probably is), but the temperature benchmarks I saw weren't favorable so if you're thinking of using it I probably wouldn't bother.

Also, delayed to "Q4", which could mean October (which most people expected), or December...
So it looks like Sandy Bridge-E isn't really useful in gaming applications, not that anyone was expecting any different.·feist· said:Intel Core i7-3960X (Sandy Bridge-E) And X79 Platform Preview

The real question mark is Ivy Bridge.
goodfella said:Ok, I have a (hopefully not) serious problem with my pc.
Red dots are appearing on the screen (actually, looking at it, different coloured dots also, but harder to spot them) They remain in the same general area, and some of them flicker on and off.
The dots seem to be dependent on the colour shade being displayed. For example, if I had a picture in a window, and certain areas had dots, when moving the picture across the desktop the dots remain at the same point in the picture.
I have not played any games since I found this issue, which was about 10 mins ago, for fear that it is the graphics card.
I built the pc around 2 months ago and have had no problems as of yet.
It is a 560ti with a i5-2500 (nonk). No overclocking or underclocking.
I have no idea of what to do now. All I have done really is look at my pictures folder in horror, checked the temps of my cpu and graphics cards (28 for gtx and 29 for cpu), and rebooted my pc with no success.
Help!
goodfella said:Ok, so I ran the unigine thing for about 10 mins, not the benchmark mind you, and no artefacts where noticeable.
the thing to note is that the dots are pixles, so it is hard to notice, only really clear on a desktop background.
Had dinner, came back and now there are significantly more dots on the screen! Red and green.
Shit, is my graphics card dying before my eyes! its only 2 months old!
Is it too late to RMA it? Idk if I even have the box any more.
Corky said:Sounds like it is, but still did you check your temps? I mean even a healthy card can crash / produce artifacts if the temps get too high. But RMA and warranty should be like a year and if it's only 2 months then I see no problem why you shouldn't be able to send it back.
Chinner said:150k isn't enought you'll probably need 200k at least (not including monitor).
JJBro One said:Lol 150k I meant 1500. But ya most I'll spend is 2k.
I don't think it would be worth the near-$400 upgrade unless you just happen to play a ton of CPU-heavy games. And only pretty new games are going to be optimized for 4+ cores since quads have only recently become mainstream.froliq said:Is a Quad-core a must for games if you want to run them on higher settings/above average? I'm running a GTX 560 Ti and AMD PhenomII x3 720 and it might seem like the tri-core is holding me back in some games. Maybe I'm just expecting too much preformance out of my setup and i'll just have to take that fps drop at higher settings/more AA, but would be swapping in say a PhenomII quad be a big upgrade or a i5 2500k be a big upgrade? Or is it simply not worth it when I look at the money I'd have to invest?
JJBro One said:How much is too much to spend on a build? I'm thinking about dropping at the least 150k. It must run BF3 at 60 FPS and will last me a long time and be well prepared for next gen.
Le-mo said:Gaf, why does my Asus HD Radeon 6950 card only come with display ports and DVI connectors? I was shocked that there was no HDMI output so I ended up using the DVI-HDMI converter that came with the card. My monitor doesn't have a display port output so should I return the card or just stick with it?
AndyMoogle said:So I've narrowed my mobo choice down to two candidates:
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 GEN 3
ASRock P67 Extreme4 GEN 3
The Z68 Extreme3 is cheaper than the P67 Extreme4, which I find to be a bit weird. Is there something special with the Extreme4 models that the Extreme3 doesn't have? As far as I can see, the only difference is that E4 has one more PCI-E slot, and two more Sata 3Gbit slots.
I'm not planning on running sli or crossfire, and I don't intend to have more than 3 HDDs at one time either. So, I'm thinking that the Z68 mobo would be the one to go with since it's cheaper. Or are there any other features that the Extreme4 has that I'm missing?
EDIT: I'm reading that some Gen 3 mobos have problems with overclocking. That doesn't sound too good. Perhaps it's better to go with a Rev B3 mobo instead?

it's the Geforce 570 GTX Phantom which is ultra silent yet with great performance.
Recommended.

That is weird. If you ever need the Hdmi output for say your HDTV. Get a Display port to hdmi cable.

Wow, I wasn't aware Gainward was still in business. Their cards were awesome years ago. Although they were definitely known for being overpriced/expensive.Nostalgia~4ever said:I bought this baby for BF3.
