Cheap wasn't a requirement. I have the $800 Acer backordered, after all. 
I just wanted to know if there was an equivalent at the 1080p level, or if that Acer is really the only monitor that has the combination of refresh rate, G-sync, and IPS.
Also was curious if my performance concerns are relevant or not- will my machine be able to run new hardware-pushers at 1440p reasonably close to 60 or am I going to have to compromise somewhere?

How about a £65 6970 from CEX and a Pentium Anniversary rig? Coupled with a 500w EVGA B PSU you would have fantastic upgrade options.
So, I posted in here ages ago about SSD/HDD issues I was having but managed to put up with them for little over a year, across a couple of SSDs and a CPU+MOBO upgrade. However I've just had too much shit and just want to fix it, after dealing with losing my stuff too many times.
The first place I guess I could start is that one of my SSDs which I use for recording and rendering to, an old OCZ Vertex 2, only work maybe three out of boots. The times it doesn't work it gets stuck on an "A2" code during post for like 15 seconds before finally booting into my 840 evo.
Next up is that back when I used the Vertex 2 as a boot drive I had frequent issue with the windows installation just breaking, I either had to restore or completely reinstall windows. I haven't quite had this issue with my 840 until today. This is the first time my 840 has fucked up, I'm just going to go ahead and repartition it and do a clean install of windows as I'm getting the error about the drive not being bootable or some shit. I didn't notice an error or a code that it hung on during post so I have no idea what's happened here.
I also had an issue recently with my 2TB WD Green where it fucked up the permissions somehow and I lost some stuff from maybe the previous 5 days, everything else was untouched.
Quite literally the only thing I can think of as being an issue is my RAM as almost everything in my build has changed since I started having these issues. I have two sticks of 2gb from when I first built my PC. Then I got 1 stick of 4gb to add to this because I didn't really have much money but needed more RAM because editing videos is painful on 4gb, especially when I started using some more intensive programs. All the sticks run at the same speed, 1333mhz, but I'm not sure if the timings between the two lots are different and I honestly don't even know if that could be what's causing these issues.
Sorry for the long, crazy ass post but I'm seriously at wits end and can't have this happening toward the end of the college year and when I have projects for other people that I'm working on.
Edit: Another thing I forgot to mention is that I have to keep an option in the boot settings of my bios as legacy because setting it to UEFI makes all of my drives disappear.

Heh, desktops seem to be pretty much liquidated at stores now. I guess building is my best option... I dread buying an OS on top of all the other costs, though.
Maybe on Witcher 3 and Battlefront 3, definitely not Star Citizen.
1440p is really still the realm of proper high end GPUs. The 970 being mid-tier Maxwell with the obvious VRAM limitation is kind of a bad place to be for that resolution. But if you're dropping that kind of cash on a monitor now, is it really a big deal to sell your 970 and upgrade it when necessary?

Right now I'm rolling with:
i5 3570K OCed 4.3
AMD 7950 HD
8 GIG RAM
SSD 512GIG
Is it time for some upgrading or wait till next year?

There's some things you'll need a bit more GPU grunt to get above 90ish FPS, which is where I see the real sweet spot. But otherwise you're golden. Upgrade the GPU when it's no longer giving you the performance you want. If you're looking for a reason to splurge on a new GPU cause you want to, then go for it.
I guess not. It does suck to feel like I'll need to replace a card I just bought within a year though. Any clue how 1080p content would look on a 1440p screen?

Depending on how sensitive you are, it might look absolutely horrible and the worst thing ever (more hyperbole stuff) or it could just look a little weird but nothing to fret at. I'm personally in the latter camp. 1080p content looks fine on my RoG Swift.

There's nothing more frustrating to me than playing any amount of any Battlefield. Not good for blood pressure. Well, maybe cutscenes. That's more of a combination of disinterest with a tinge of rage when I can't skip through them though.
I've been meaning to build a PC for a long time now. I honestly think I'm going to wait and build whatever is best for Battlefront 3 when it comes out.

I'll be doing the same. (GTX 970 i5-4690k). Getting 60fps should be fine on high... I think. There's a video review by Gamingwiidesire on overclock.net and YouTube that shows the performance of the GTX 970 and the XB270HU. Don't expect to run the latest things with greater than 100fps which this monitor is also capable of doing. To do that you probably need a Titan X.
There's no 1080p equivalent for now, the closest is the XB240H panel but it's TN (half the price though).
Agree with this. Use your 970 for another year or so, upgrade it when pascal comes out with something that does 1440p better and cheaper. As I said the 980 probably won't cut it either and you really have to go to the Titan X.

I'm looking to build a PC and I need help remembering a site name. I visited it a few months ago and I remember it was pretty simple--it had about 8-10 columns across and about the same number down and it basically listed builds in tiers from "good" to "insanely powerful" with all components priced out and separated and notes on the side (or maybe when you clicked on the row you were interested in it displayed at the bottom of the page).
It's similar to PCpartpicker in this way but it was definitely not that site. The best way I can describe it is that the site had a white background and the columns themselves were colored yellow/blue/green/red, almost looking like a Google spreadsheet (but it was not that either).
Does anyone have any idea what site this might be?

290x works for me. Fits my budget but need a new power supply.

You're thinking of Logical Increments. It's handy for referencing brands and models, but prices are generalized, so I'd still use PCPartPicker for exact pricing and to find deals.
What power supply do you currently have? You will only need 850 watts for crossfiring two R9 290X cards.

I'm starting to fet the feeling that my 128GB SSD is only ever really gonna have half it's space free.
I just did a visualization of the drive and about 25 gigs of it is being taken up by the "Windows" folder. Of that, maybe 11GB is in Winsys and another huge chunk is in System32. I only have maybe 5GB worth of games installed right now and I already moved the page file to another drive.

I'm getting really confused with my SSD. Samsung 840 EVO, I had run that utility when I first got it (Performance restoration) to protect against errors. Well, Windows is reporting that I'm using up this much space:
But when I use Overdisk, it reports that I'm only using up this much space.
And just checking the file size of each folder in the C: drive.
So... What gives? Why does Windows seem to be under the impression I'm using so much space? Shouldn't I have ~150gb free if I'm only using 82gb like Overdisk says?

It seems like the Nvidia and Windows Media Player folders are hogging up space. Is there any way I can move those to a different drive? Do all the Nvidia files NEED to be on my C drive for optimal performance? How about my iPhone firmware backups (I already have all other iOS backup data directed to the other drive).

Do you have a page file? Those by default are the same size of your RAM.
Do you have a hibernation file? Drop to a command prompt and type "powercfg.exe /hibernate off"

Try using WinDirStat to see if you can find out what's taking up space.

Windir seems to agree with Overdisk that I'm using ~80 gigs on my drive, which means I should have ~145 gigs free. Not 86.5 like windows is reporting, right?

My question is should I wait for skylate CPUs to be released or should I just get the i7-5930k. I don't mind waiting if its right around the corner of being released.

If I were you, I would wait, even if Skylake only comes in the end of the year like what it's expected. You should be fine with that build until then. Do you really feel the need to upgrade?

Have you checked your system restore point settings? They can take up quite a bit of space. I had the same problem and that turned out to be the reason.

I'd say first get to the point you want to get a second GPU before changing the PSU.
