I was hoping that a 6800xt + 5600x and fast ram will do the trick for stable FPS in warzone, but nah.. not even close. So VRR to the rescue.. its my first experience with it works very well. Look at the FPS drops I get, but thanks to VRR things are as smooth as they can be on screen, no lag.

Just want to say that I went into my local Canada Computers and noticed they have 6700XT GPUs on the shelf.

"Great- I can finally build a gaming PC with a solid mid-range card!"

Cost: $1200 CAD +tax.

lol nope.
Saw the same thing at my Microcenter a few months ago. They actually had a lot of 3070s and 6800xt but they were all $200-400 above the MSRP. Everyone is complaining about scammers but AIBs are the ones who are marking up the prices at retailers and even online.

I saw one 3090 for a cool $2,500 sitting on the shelf. that's $1,000 above the MSRP.

Its brutal out there. Like shit- I bought my PS5 and Series X, two complete systems, for basically the same cost of a mid-range GPU now. I know PC masterrace and all that, but wow.

Got some stock alerts this morning. 3080s are in stock at Amazon!!!

$1,650. Get the fuck out of here lol. Highway fucking robbery. Zotac needs to be blackballed by nvidia. That's literally a $950 markup for some fancy cooling.

yep. I've got 3080fe for msrp last year but I still think it's too expensive. GPU alone more expensive than whole ps5 with a game or two.
Now it's not even a topic. PC gaming is a nightmare

Just how in the fuck is my eyes and/or brain meant to keep up with 165Hz on Warzone. The sheer speed and smoothness of this game running on my RTX 3080 is fucking insane.

I mean holy shit. Is this what PC gaming is like? I've been missing out. Fuck that PS5 pre-order, I need a good mouse/keyboard combo now 😂😂😂

i have a 165hz too and there are some games i wish i could go higher to maybe 240hz lol. high refresh rate is so good. i can't go back to 60hz.

Just so you know, our Alpha has a 3090. I repeat, our War Lord in Chief of PCMR has a 3090.

would you expect anything less for our Alpha and War Lord in Chief? nothing but the absolute best for him. he'll ditch that card so damn fast when a 4090 comes out and whoever gets that old pathetic 3090 of his will be grateful for receiving it.

Sometimes i'm glad that i never played anything beyond 60 frames or that would be my demise...

It's already hard to calibrate a game to have nice details and at least 60 frames, imagine aiming for 165 frames...

What's awesome is that these modes are available on console now. No settings- just choose 120fps mode and its done.

Stable 165fps / 1440p from the 3080 without DLSS?

6800xt gets it on the rebirth island, but not on the big map. It can do it on 1080p but that's a huge visual downgrade

If you are looking for a good combo I can recommend this:

Apex Pro TKL | SteelSeries
Razer Viper Ultimate (Mouse only) - Black | Mice
NINJA FX HAYATE OTSU | ARTISAN Gaming mouse pad | Made in JAPAN (artisan-jp.com)

Usually the game i buy on ps5 don't have this option...

Maybe sex has more titles with this 120 frame mode.

Bro I've been contemplating this past week of doing the same thing. BUT... i have like 120+ PS4 games In my library.
Everytime I want to pick up the phone to ring the store to cancel my PS5 order, I think of them games lol.
My partner also doesn't want me to cancel the PS5 even though I've got this beast of a PC.
I've still got a few weeks to go until that PS5 shipment arrives so got time to decide.

I'm sometimes a very undecided person. Takes me ages to make up my mind but i still have time.

Also having PC now lets me get back into Xbox games so yeah its a win for me on that front too.
If I could just say this, but I really love God of War, however it's not enough to force me to buy a PS5. Uncharted is also a great series, but again, not enough to force me to buy a PS5. With what you can do with a PC, it mops the floor with most games, especially 3rd party titles.

Ask yourself what games are "a must have". For me, God of War is close, but the benefits of PC gaming far outweigh one or two games. I still have a PS4. Those games can be played on that console. Nothing changes that until Sony decides to get with the times and make more of their games available on PC. (They will.)

Depends on the game. The ones that I play that are 120fps on PS5 are COD: Warzone, COD: Cold War and Doom Eternal. I think Series X does have more but I couldn't confirm without an official list.
I only buy exclusives games for console, i have my pc for the rest, and usually the exclusive games are the ones who push the console to his limits so a 120 mode is kinda of a chimera, at least on sony side (and for the genres of games i like)

Does any USB key work to make a bootable W10 key, as long as it's at least 8GB (do smaller keys even exist anymore in the first place)?
I have a 16GB USB 3.1 key laying around, would that do the trick? I remember for an older version of Windows (maybe 7) it wouldn't work with anything but USB 2.0 unless you also installed 3.0 drivers prior to Windows...

You should be good. I used a 3.0 drive without problem.

But why not just have both? There's so many 'must have' games on PS4 it was a no-brainer. And now we're finally seeing 60fps console modes.

PS5 with the slate of games coming, newly improved controller, VR2 to come is the same. I'll get a 3080 at some point, but currently a 3070 is almost double the price of a non-scalped PS5.

No, there just isn't in my opinion, at least not enough to drop $500 for a piece of hardware to justify playing one game that I really want. Neither would a new controller or VR be anything better that isn't already available on PC. I bought my 3080 at $700 MSRP, so money isn't a factor in that decision for me.

The only thing that will get me to buy a console is a new Rockstar game.

It has to be formatted in NTFS. If your thumb drive is formatted in FAT32 then some builds of Win10 won't work. (Since it'll have files over 4GB.)

Okay, but it doesn't mean I need a PS5 now. Also, I'm willing to wait if the games eventually come to PC, and Sony has started realizing it's been financially profitable for them to do so.

that USB drive will work perfectly fine. i have a 16GB USB 2.0 and a 32GB USB 3.0. both work.

if you're creating a bootable W10 drive then use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool:
first, make sure your USB is empty by formatting it to NTFS. the tool will download the image right onto your drive. nothing else to do! once it's done you can go straight to installing windows from it. a lot of people use Rufus to make bootable drives. you can use that but the Media Creation Tool is simple and straight forward. I only use Rufus if i'm making bootable Linux distros.

If you're on AMD GPU, the newest (21.7.1) driver helps improve your 3D mark scores. I went from 15, 888 to 16, 187 for an improvement of 300 points. And that's before I went back in fix my tunings. I forgot it resets your custom fan curves and manual settings.

The fact that we are seeing 120fps modes on consoles bodes well for this generation. This is a first that I am aware of.

GPU prices up here in Canada are insane. I'd love to buy a new 5800x package (MB, CPU, RAM) but the 3070's have gone from around $700 to well over $900. I feel like I'll be waiting another year. :(

Hopefully, it won't be that long. According to Gamers Nexus, some manufactures think it will level out by the end of the year. I can believe it. On hardware swap prices were ridiculously absurd, but I'm starting to see the prices coming down. Are the prices still stupid? Hell yeah, but nowhere near nuclear like in March through May.

If you asked me this 3 months ago I would've agreed with you 100%. Especially since people had no problem buying the lowest tier cards for goofy prices like 1K. However, them stimmy checks are evaporating quickly and the market will stabilize eventually. Make no mistake that the Nvidia, AMD and the AIB's are gonna try their hands with the next cards, but if they aren't smart, they're gonna run into the problem Nvidia had with Turing cards as they sat on shelves.

Received my new PC this morning, installed Windows without issues, everything's working fine :messenger_smiling_hearts:
I changed the case at the last minute for a Be Quiet Pure Base 500, it's almost scary how quiet it is. Without the glass panel (another first for me) to see inside, I'd have thought the fans weren't working at all.
(they even put the wifi version of my motherboard at no extra cost, either they didn't have mine in stock, or they didn't pay attention; I know I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't see the antenna packaged with it)

It's crazy how much has changed since my first PC build, 20 years ago. The size of the GPUs is as crazy as their current prices, for starters... Windows installs much faster from an USB stick than a DVD. Cases are also super clean, it looks so easy to put everything in place and do some quick cable management that I'm thinking it would have been alright if I had to build it myself... but on the other hand I'm glad I didn't, because I don't want to mess with 1000€+ parts, especially since, again, it looks nothing like what I used to work on.

Anyway, do you think there are any "must change" settings in the BIOS? Or do I leave it as it is for now?

I just picked up a 3090 yesterday. It has been in my computer for over 24 hours at this point, and 99% of my PC usage has been browsing forums (with the other 1% installing Windows updates). I have yet to play a game.
You should stresstest it.

It really is, especially when you find something new, like a mod for a car or something. I actually really want something like this, but I feel it would obstruct a lot of things in my build.
