I've noticed whenever I go into the music folder on my hard drive, a small icon pops oncscreen repeatedly. I've got no idea what it is, and this never happened before I reinstalled Windows.

Here's the icon, blown up at 4x:

Anyone have any idea? It appears and disappears multiple times, but it does it too uickly for me to click on it. Just getting the icon in a screengrab took awhile.

I'm pretty sure that's the DIVX encoder. Should only show up when you play something that requires it.

Matlock: I've only got Quicktime Alternative on this PC.
Tamanon: The icon flashes as soon as I open my music folder. This is before I have the chance to even get to any mp3 files.

And guys, any idea how to get this to stop popping up?

Start/ Run/ type msconfig/ click start up (tab) / it should be there.

I'm pretty sure its an Ogg Vorbis decoder. I use that for .ogm video files. Check to see if you have an ogg music files.

That's where I've seen it before! Yeah I'll check when I get home but Ogg Vorbis sounds right. I hate OGM files.

OK, that seems to be it. I've got one folder with ogg files, and when I move the folder out of my music folder, the icon no longer pops up.

Any idea how to make it go away?

You don't want it to go away, it decodes your ogg files for you! If you deleted it you wouldn't be able to play them anymore.

P.S. uninstalling Direct show Ogg Vorbis filter should get rid of it

I just don't want the icon to appear.

And what's odd is it's popping the icon up when I'm not even in the folder with the ogg files.

I'll be in F:\music when it pops up, and the ogg files aren't until F:\music\album\ - weird.

yeah, it is a bit odd that it's popping up when you're not in the folder yet, but I guess it's normal. Maybe windows is looking to see what's in all the folders in your music dir. No idea why, but I doubt it's anything to worry about.

I have no idea how to stop the icon from popping up, I like it popping up so I know when it's in use. Same with FFDshow. I couldn't find any option to turn it off when I right-clicked the icon.

Edit: rightclick icon > Properties > Ogg splitter > unclick show tray icon. Give that a try mate.

speaking about unwanted system tray icons.. my computer is always connected through its wireless card.. is there any way to get rid of or hide the 'Local Area Connection: a network cable is unplugged' icon ?

never-mind.. i just disabled it..


oh, but here is another one.. my SATA harddrive shows up on my 'safely remove hardware' icon.. is there any way to make it not show up? im guessing that windows is reading the sata drive and a removable drive..
