I need some computer help....

Somewhere over the last couple of days, I evidently downloaded somekind of virus or incredibly insidious spyware. New web pages will just load without me doing anything and they're always trying to sell me something. This bug has been embeded deep in my system and my protection software isn't fixing it. I've ran my antivirus and came up with a couple of hits and but that didn't eliminate the problem. I've also ran my anti-spyware program several times in an attempt to stop this shit and that hasn't worked either. Infact everytime I run my anti-spyware it seems like new stuff is popping up immediately after. I've bumped up my firewall security and set all my restrictions to the highest level it'll go but still it persists.

Does anyone have any clue how I can stop this crap? Would a doing a system restore to a couple of days ago have any effect on this?

Please help!

Try MS Antispyware if you can, otherwise you'll be needing a hijackthis log and some knowledgable folk.

Start -> Run -> Msconfig -> Startup (or the last tab my OS is in another language) -> disable everything -> Restart -> Maybe this was helpful??

if you have winXP can't you do like a system recovery based on a certain date?

Like "I want my computer to be like it was one week ago" or something like that?

Run the antispyware scans while in safe mode, if you run it in normal mode, they just reinstall themselves as they are removed. No guarantees you will be able to remove them though, you could be looking at a full system format.

Isn't that a new(ish) feature that requires some dedicated HDD space and prior setup? Maybe I'm thinking of a 3rd party app, but we looked at something like that at my old job.

does spybot and the like detect it? there could be manual removal instructions for it if you can get the name of it.

Yeah it does. I just did a system recovery, disabled everything in my startup, ran my antivirus and the MS antispyware and so far so good.

*crosses fingers*

BTW, thanks for the input guys. Much appreciated. :)
