Dark City, a bad movie?

AWWW, HELLL NAW.

All the Metropolis references in the goddam universe can't save Dark City from the double take I, Robot forces on you. Was that a great Kiefer Sutherland performance or him just slurring his fuckin lines? I don't even know, cause Will Smith just had a robot car chase inside an Asimov film.

remember when people thought DC was better than the matrix

that was kinda funny

I feel that The Matrix, while ultimately a better film, owes a lot to Dark City. Dark City is a good film, it's not perfect, but I like it a lot.

It owes nothing to it really (except sharing some reused sets). The script was written several years before anyone had ever even heard of "Dark City"

More like Dark Shitty. Ultimately a better film? There isn't one facet of The Matrix that isn't better than that entire mess. I have no idea where that film got its fans.

I enjoyed it, though it was entertaining. People are too hard to please, fuck em.

Even your name is wrong.

I thought someone bumped an I, Robot topic by mistake instead of a Real Steel topic. WTF at no LTTP.

Copernicus do you like this movie because it has androids in it?

I, honestly, didn't even connect the two.

Also, name a movie bridget monnahanana hasn't made worse by appearing in it? Think of how good Lord of War could have been, but then...

Bring The Recruit into this, and I swear....

I don't get it. Besides the big ass Coke billboard, what other obvious product placements were there in Bladerunner?

Budweiser, Cuisinart, ATARI!!!!!, Poliroid... but the HUGE ASS coke billboard takes the cake

Did you just insult Michael Mann? Cause I was readin' your post and it sounded to me like you were insulting Michael Mann.

No, no, what....wait? of course not, there's gotta be some kind of talent involved when you totality mutilate great stories handed to you.

Michael Mann has made plenty of garbage.

Michael "the hack" Mann?

I'm weird with movies in that sometimes I like shitty movies and sometimes I'm overly judgmental of decent movies. This was one of those bad movies that I liked.

No and no. But they had the same writer (Asimov) and same robotic laws by that writer.

Please don't sully Asimov by saying he wrote this piece of trash. It was a second rate script stamped with his name to give it cred, other than token use of and outright abuse of the three laws it had nothing to do with Asimov.

Love how I, Robot gets called on this all the time.. but Back to the Future and Blade Runner did it big and are classic sci-fi flicks..

ahhh hell naw..

They got away with it by not sucking.

It's weird how much closer it felt to an adaptation of Caves of Steel or something than I, Robot (still completely missing the point, of course.)
I found it a decent enough generic action flick with a very unfortunate name to claim as a "source."

Will Smith is the king of dumb movies that rape good books.

See also, I Am Legend.

EDIT: Fun fact about I, Robot, though.... they filmed a bit of it near where I live in New Westminster, BC... and the park benches now sport the three laws of robotics as a tribute. That's kinda cool.

OP must be trolling. I, Robot is a really good book. The movie shits on it. Will Smith running around trying to catch a robot with feelings is a stupid concept.

I, Product Placement.

I admire the director for cramming all his required product placement into that 15 second slot. Seemed like a nice "fuck you guys" to the studio.

MY OLD SCHOOL CONS!

That's the laziest product placement ever in a future setting movie. "I'm a big fan of these oldschool shoes from the 2000s".... Bullshit.

I am Legend, I Robot, Pursuit of Happiness etc. All good movies because Will Smith is an actor that I enjoy to watch.

I loved it the more important question is why didn't I am legend receive love ? I loved that movie.
Because the ending was awful. All they had to do was copy the book. It was literally all laid out for them, and they managed to blow it. The one good part about the entire book, and they choose to go in the complete opposite direction.

Once when the girl and little boy showed up, the movie went way down hill.

I agree with this but you can't disagree that the first half of the movie was perfect. I wouldn't have minded an ending where Smith gave up.

Wow I can not believe people are riding so far up Will Smith's jock that they are actually trying to defend I Robots product placement. WSPPDF? really =\

As far as the comparison with Back to the Future and Blade runner goes, both those films used the products in a clever ways. I robot did not.

I enjoyed the film. But, I watched it on video with very low expectations since I already knew it was nothing like the book.

Bicentennial Man? Awesome.
I, Robot? Not so much.

I barely remember the movie, but I definitely recall not liking it. If its on cable sometime soon I'll give it another go. It can't be that bad.

This!

As someone who grew up reading Asimov novels I simply cannot stand this movie at all. If their intention is to make a popcorn movie they shouldn't use the "I, Robot" name, which isn't even that recognizable amongst young people anyway.
