Yeah, OK. There's quite a bit to know in order to use it fully, as he's requesting. Python scripts, .xml editing etc.

I wish it were all GUI-fied, especially in regards to configuring shares and what not.

I didn't think there was much outside of Python scripts, which are pretty easy to find. Network configuration hasn't been a problem since XBMP, for me, though I've never bothered to manually define my SMB directory to the XML file.

How are you getting to your shares then? Are you not clearing out the UDATA/TDATA folders?

Through the workgroup option. I didn't define my SMB menu entry, so I just use the workgroup browser to pick my PC. Can't remember the last time I cleared TDATA/UDATA, but it was probably when I switched from XBMP to XBMC

Sounds like its misconfigured / or in ultra paranoid noid. Put your local internal network in the thrusted zone or something

DaCoco, the way I got the Workgroups share to work was by manually allowing the Xbox IP address in my Firewall (Norton), as well as in the firewall on my dad's PC.

Works fine now.

I am such a loser. Last night after I got home I edited the ID3v2 tags of 100 MP3s so they show the cd covers over smb. It was a cutom CD i made, 100 guitar solos.

All XBMC needs now is to read lyrics from the ID3v2 tag.

I just edit the .xml file to point to an MP3s share, a Videos share and Pictures share. I have my network pretty tight otherwise and don't allow other machines too many privelages.

:lol Placing a .jpeg in the album folders, and clicking the 'Scan' button in XBMC accomplishes the same thing.

If at least one PC on the workgroup is not allowing File Sharing on it's firewall, just one, and you won't get XBMC to work w/ your workgroup's SAMBA shares...

That is what I did. I used Tag&Rename to get the album covers for the songs. Once it got the album it auto filled in everything else.

Wrong.

My sister's PC doesn't have file sharing on her firewall, but she's on our network. That PC just doesn't show up with the Workgroups (SMB) area
