Ok, I've avoided them this long, but now I think I'm going to do it.

I've never seriously looked into it, whose service is the best?

I also have a quick question -- and it's a stupid one.

Which cell phones will allow me to use the "Ring Ring Ring Banana Phone!" sound clip as my ringer, and where do I get the ringer from??

how good your service is from any given company is different in each area so it's hard to say which one to go with. verizon is king where i live, though.

If you want the original song, you'll obviously need a cellphone that supports mp3 playback. I have that actual song as my ringtone, and I'm using a Sony Ericsson K700i. There are of course other models with mp3 support too.
To transfer the song to your cellphone, the easiest way would be to get a bluetooth adapter for your computer. Then you send the mp3 file from your computer to your cellphone, simple as that.

I've been super happy with Cingular. www.cingular.com

So if you're looking into it.. go to a cell phone company web site.. search for a rate plan that appeals to you, when you pick one, you can then go into a phone selection area. There'll be plenty of free phones (you're getting $200 off "retail price" phones for signing a 1-2 year contract more or less). Those will be fine for you.. though you'll probably be using this phone for the life of your contract, so it's definitely worth spending $50-100 more to get a nice one you like if it has some features you might use.

As far as service goes, Verizon pretty much owns the New York metro market. They're not the people to go to if you're looking for the best value, though. Their cheapest plan is $35 a month.

West side. 34th st.
Respect

werd, go with verizon or t-mobile but i say t-mobile only cause i hate verizon...i worked for them and i know how they are on the inside and outside....dont really like them at all.

by the way....west 34th st in manhatten? cant be....if so, ur fricken rich.

hey Xsarien, you know if verizon service works underground? Im thinking that underground all cellphones dont work(like in the subway or on the first floor of manhatten mall...etc)...but maybe verizon does cause they got that "can you hear me now" fucker going around making sure you can hear him now (and yes they actually do have someone that does it...just not the way the guy on the commercial does it). if so, thats pretty sweet.

peace

As far as phone models go, I just recently got a Motorolla V400. It's very very slick, and top quality. It doesn't feel as cheap as some of the LG and Samsung models.

Verizon without a doubt.

Verizon has good service up and down 34th street.
With T Mobile you get bad reception near Copacabana, and by the DMV. You also can get deeper into Penn Station with Verizon than Tmobile. If you are a true 34th streeter, you must use Verizon.

Verizon has no service in the subway system, but you should get reception in the tunnels, including the LIRR East River tubes.

As much as I hate Verizon and thier bullshit policies, they have the best coverage across NYC, bar none. I know tons of T Mobile users, and most seem to complain about dropped calls, spotty reception, etc. Though it can't be any worse than Sprint, which is what I use. Their service, simply put, is a joke.
