OK, guys. I want to discuss a very controversial topic and I hope I don't offend anyone by bringing this up. Though the fact of the matter is everyone is afraid to talk about this with co-workers, family members, and especially our children. We need to get this out in the open so nobody else gets hurt or confused. So..
OVERALLS: Girly or Manly?
I mean, wasn't there a point in time where overalls were meant to be manly? Now the majority of people who wear them are women. I remember there was a brief spot back in the 90's where overalls came back into style for guys, but that quickly died out. The female species has been the primary wearer of overalls for pretty much a while now. I don't know when it all started. Maybe with the world war when 'Rosie The Riveter' appeared? I know women took over the jobs of men(who went off to war) had in the factories and they wore overalls while at work, but if they quit their factory jobs after the war, and stopped playing baseball after the war, shouldn't they have relenquished hold of overalls?
It's just not fair. After women started wearing pants, overalls were supposed to be the ULTIMATE in manly clothes. There was absolutely nothing sexy or feminine about them. Overalls, for men, were supposed to be what a dress is to a woman. You don't see men walking around wearing dresses/skirts. We had an agreement we wouldn't retaliate for them stealing pants by wearing dresses, but they stole our overalls anyway!
So, what's the deal? Do you think overalls are now offically girly because the only people who wear them are women? Or do you think if a man goes out and puts on a pair of overalls(if he can find a pair made for men), you wouldn't look at him like he's wearing a dress?
