I went toa shooting range for the first time.

I just skimmed various Vegas touristy shooting ranges near the strip. Looks like the same kind of prices as when I did it probably a decade or so ago.

The funny thing is the guy behind you helping you load the gun and ensure you dont go wacko shooting people (each shooter gets their own glassed off room to shoot anyway) makes you shoot even faster. A noob like me shooting, you dont really think about how fast it'll go. You just get amped up youre going to shoot a red dot M4 or M16 like COD. I used that gun first. I think it was a 30 round clip. I was taking my time trying to aim and enjoy it and the guy behing me is like.... you can shoot faster by holding down the trigger.

I know. I just wanted to take my time. And this guy is trying to rush me to finish so other people can shoot too.

If you've never done the Vegas thing, you get there and there's tons of groups of people like me an my buds from out of town wanted to shoot for the first time. So it's like an assembly line where they rush people in, get them to shoot fast, and then usher them out back to the main room done. Then the next group goes in.
That sucks. Yah no one watches us at the local range. But then again we are not renting any so they are not worried about us running off with there guns.

Gun instructors remind me of this video of one almost shooting himself in the head

Shit, that reminded me. There was a story somewhere (not sure if Vegas or not) where a 12 year old girl was shooting. She couldnt control the recoil, the gun wavered and shot the instructor killing him.
Yeah, I've heard of cases like that. Either the gun kicks up, they ride it up and over their head, then pull the trigger again, or it goes full auto (by design or a bubba gump smith) and the multiple shots flip the gun around out of their hands.

Too much gun for the shooter. My wife like touching off the .500 S&W but its STUPID to let her do it as she can barely lift the pistol, much less control the recoil. Sexy AF though :P

That's what happened. Pretty sure it was an auto gun like an SMG or something. Not a pistol. Held on too long on the trigger, the gun went up and the instructor was standing right by her. Pretty sure she wasnt injured.

I googled it.... pretty sure this is the story.

Didn't mind shooting at the range, the dopamine rush is odd, you don't have to be a gun nut either, target shooting is exciting

When I did the Vegas strip shooting, I shot an M4 or M16, an SMG and a pistol.

The hardest one was the pistol. Big kick. As a total gun noob I thought the big M4/M16 would be the hardest one to shoot. It was actually the easiest! All my buddies who did it too thought the same.
5.56/.223 is actually quite soft shooting. Pistol caliber closest would be .22. Even higher caliber rifles are going to be easier to shoot than most pistols.

9mm from a polymer frame is going kick, and generally the shorter the barrel the snappier it is. I prefer 9mm with a steel frame, like a Beretta M9 or a 1911-style chambered in 9mm. Of course, your ammo choice is going to change the feel of it too (the grain size, FMJ, JHP, +P, etc)

My daily carry is a 3" Beretta APX carry in 9mm and I use Winchester Silvertip 115g JHP, as they feed the best. I shoot "minute of badguy" at 7yd with it, which is good enough for a self-defense scenario.

My tack driver fun gun for the range is a Dan Wesson Model 15 in .357 but shooting .38spl out of it. My gf prefers my Springfield XD Mod.3, she shoots best with that one.
