i would love to see FromSoftware do a dark fantasy story driven game

All of their games have a great story but most people say that the story is non existent because the main focus of the game is the difficulty and exploration

Find a hard boss and die enough times until you find a solution

If they could do a witcher 3 style game with alot of cinematics and choices it would be a huge success because of the complex stories and characters FromSoftware can make

The story is isn’t “non-existent”, it’s just not up im your face like other games. If you take the time to read, it’s some of the best lore and story telling out there.

You know creating the world, lore and mythos is arguably one of the easiest task for a writer.
The presentation and pacing is thrice as hard as coming up with the lore.

I don't think FS should ever attempt that. They would probably still be well above average.

as long as they dont make the game too long i think pacing wont be a problem

they should keep it around 30 hours with 10 hours of cinematics

That's so weird because if you think about it, there are only a few stories/twists that are usually told, but there are nearly infinite worlds we've created.

One would think that if one had a template and a dartboard it would be fairly easy to nail the pacing and specific story aspects.

On dialog what I would do is like, go find a great book I really like, take one line of dialog, copy it and put my character's name, then do that with another book and another, until I had like 1 chapter, then I would have their cadence down and start doing it myself. Then the major decisions could come down to the author themselves, such as "what happens to Ellie and Joel and the end of the hospital sequence?"

I think I could write an AI that could write a readable book, but I don't think I could write a good book. That said, and no shade, but like, the Jack Reacher books(some of them my favs which I why I mention it here) are templated to a certain extent, no?

I honestly like their story telling. Plenty of games out there that are more intersctive movies with some gameplay. I like the game, story, visuals and feedback all to be congruent and From has that down.

From found a super comfy niche and formula, I don't think they would dare risk exploring outside it.
I would instead dare them to create a bright colourful world similar to Granblue with towns and NPCs instead of the usual desolate dying world people have come to expect from From.

Bloodborne has great story and also Elden Ring...problem is most people don like to read descriptions of rings , armor, weapons , ítems...they want npc dialogs like FF Rebird or Methapor.

They don't want to "waste" time joining information from different ítems ,like From software director says "it's like a puzzle with some missing pieces" but if You gatter most of those pieces You get most of the story.

I think they should make a game with a peppy wisecracking marvel sidekick who never shuts up, commenting on everything and everything. Like seriously, they never even stop to take a breath. They should also be as smug as they can make them and talk down to you like you are 6 years old.

Yeah, not to mention that this high production value presentation, in the style of an MGS game, costs a lot of money. A lot.
You need competent writers, directors, cinematographers, mo-cap studios, VA, etc etc.

Yeah I get some of you like the way they tell stories, but I don't. Probably the main reason I don't care for those types of games.

So I'd love to see a mix of their style of game with a good expanded story.

Not saying OP is guilty of this but butt hurt players who suck as Souls games are so easy to point out in these types of threads.

"All you do is roll!"

"There's no story"

Go pay $9.99 and play the Zero Dawn remaster, filthy casuals.

My only hope for whatever their next game will be, is a new gameplay/combat system. There’s too many of them now even without talking about the clones from other developers.

From are not good story tellers, even their lore is extremely overblown and overrated by fans and fan theories and outside of the Dark Souls, most lore from DS3/ER is just copy pasted and twisted from the og. I'd rather have them focus on making what they're good at and change that fucking ass engine. A sci-fi game would be awesome.

They did just bring back Armored Core and found success there, I would love to see them go back to making a more diverse slate of games like they used to. Their successes have now afforded them the ability to do so, if they were so inclined.

Berserk would be amazing. Imagine an open world Berserk, with a smaller map than Elden Ring, but with more cutscenes and in-your-face story. Also, the game would have a day/night cycle, and at night you would have to avoid the eclipse (or something along those lines). Otherwise, I'll take anything from From -- they're that good at what they do.

Depends on if "story driven" means like half the drivel PS puts out. I'm all for it being a bit more guided as far as story and character arcs, but no forced walking and excessive social drama.

i dont suck but im not great either , i finished all their game except sekiro

FUCK THAT GAME
I'm by no means a master either. It's just cope I'm calling out for obvious offenders.

If someone doesnt like the gameplay loop, no issue from me. But acting like all you do is roll erratically is so disingenious. The moment to moment balance in the battles is what i enjoy the most; fune tuning your gear and consumables, making their utilization as efficient as possible. Its a great feeling when you get it down and battle foes like a fine-tuned machine.
