Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
To what end do they need to do something different to what they owe their grand success, lol? And you can't "just borrow" everything from a wholly different game. Why don't people go ask Tetris and similar games to let you get a high score easier by dropping convenient blocks to remedy your stupid placement mistakes or any puzzle game to have lower puzzle difficulty/end on level 5 instead of level 99..? Because that wouldn't have any entertainment value to the gameplay and player regardless of their ability to play the games as they are well, duh. Shmups are a genre for hardcore fans to play for score, many offer easy difficulties that people who don't play shmups (or hell, any arcade games, hence their death) religiously might try once and go on to say how it was dumb, they finished in 30 minutes and weren't entertained so they aren't more successful than those without. Anyone who doesn't like this or that "because it's hard" will not fall in love with it because the bosses have low health and don't use all their interesting attack patterns so they don't even need to think/use the mechanics to progress and what, feel good, go to the next boss, that's not fun to anyone either.

Just confirms that games aren't really games these days. Just interactive movies. These babies wouldn't last 2 minutes in any nes game.

I'm just talking about myself here but I really don't get, nor want, this kind of difficulty fine-tuning in games. I want devs to push me, make me solve their puzzles and challenges. As a player, I have no idea if I'm throwing an interesting experience and balance out of the window by tweaking random shit for my entire playthrough.

I know I can just not engage with that but it makes me question how much of a crutch that ends up being during development. How much thought is actually put into the basic modes when you know there'll just be sliders for players to "fix" any issues later?

It all feels of the times to me. Any sort of resistance is a negative thing and hinders the "experience" of getting through the game asap to move on to the next for the story.

Sure why not.
I would like some EZ options. Sometimes I am not in a mood for a challenge and just want to play.
But on the other hand, I am buying a difficult game. I know what I am in for

These dumb motherfuckers never learn.

Not every game has to cater to everyone. If a game is too difficult for you that’s perfectly fine.

What’s not fine is people demanding that devs change their fundamental design principles so they can be part of the club.

Besides, the Fromsoftware games are super fair. Difficult, but fair. Anyone can beat them, it just takes time and dedication.

Laat week I saw a dude beat Elden Ring using a saxophone. Including Malenia! A dude finished the game with a saxophone and your bitch ass is complaining that the game is too difficult?

Hell no, it would save me hours of adjusting it myself through community made modding tools, but there would be less incentive to create said tools so we would just be left with a few basic options and i like having a way to adjust every little aspect.

We would have less options to customize their games and ultimately end up worse off if they actually did it.

Yea I'm ok with that option.

Games are made for fun folks, pull back a bit, touch grass and realize this is made for the point of fun.

If someone modded the game and made it easy, fuck does that have to do with anyone here? Why would that effect how anyone else plays the game?
No games are made for challenge. Go watch your latest Disney princess movie if you want 'fun'.

No, fromsoft games are intentionally hard, but rewarding. Elden Ring already compromised by giving ashes as an option for fighting bosses.

People either need to stop being cry baby bishes and get good or dont play. Thousands of easier games to choose from.

Doom having such gameplay values customization is actually a red flag for me. It means the designers don't really trust their own vision.

I agree. Dick-measuring contests among Souls players aside, I really hate infinitely-customizable/sliding difficulty settings. It's part of the designers' job to come up with solid difficulty settings with a good balance of different elements (health, damage, resources, number of enemies, etc).

I'm not here to do the studio's work for them. It's their job to have playtesters test "Easy" and "Medium" and "Hard" and make sure they feel just right. I want to be able to say "I beat the game on [X] difficulty," not "I dunno bro, I set boss health to 60% or something because I was tired."

Elden Ring sold nearly 30 million copies. That’s really all that needs to be said on the matter. It’s difficult by design because thats the experience the creators and fans want. It’s part of its identity.

I like comedy movies. Saving Private Ryan was not funny. Am I going to complain that the next war movie should be funnier? We have a million choices for how we get our entertainment. People just need to choose something that caters to them and for the love of god stop complaining.

Absolutely not. Souls games arent for everyone and thats ok. Leave the difficulty as it is, its part of its core.

If you dont like the difficulty of these games then the only answer is....

It kind of sucks for people who enjoy the Souls genre but don't have the ability to play them. As long as Souls games are developed first and foremost for their standard level of difficulty, I see no reason why an easier mode shouldn't be added

First Beserker is a Souls like coming out in March. It provides 2 difficulties, Normal and Easy. The game was obv designed around normal difficulty, but if you are new to the genre, there is an easy mode. It doesn't affect anyone by adding it
Ability to play them? XDD
Aside from physical disabilities everyone has "ability" to play souls games lmao, the fuck are you talking about?
People who wish for easy mode in souls are just lazy insufferable twats lmao
