I watched this crazy ass movie City of God this weekend. About hoods in a Rio slum. I liked it. At least I hadn't seen anything quite like it. The violence in this movie was almost so over the top it lost a little impact(the runts foot scene). Plus Lil Ze was great. The montage showing him "growing up" was cool as hell. He was scary and actually threatening.
And his death was brutal, ironic and deserved all at the same time
That girl Rocket and Benny like (Angelica I think) was kinda hot.

Good movie check it out.

What a weird coincidence, I watched Menace II Society the other day on IFC and it kept making me think of GTA:SA (that and the fact of how insanely much better it is than Boyz n the Hood) and I also kept comparing them both to City of God which I watched for the first time last week. I finally decided that GTA:Rio wouldn't work for me because it just brings up a whole level of poverty and utter hopelessness far beyond even the harshest 'ghetto' story you'd find in north america unless you went back in time a hundred years.

Menace II Society also makes me look at their neighborhoods and constantly thinking about how fly-in reserves up north are so much run down and obviously even more dirt poor yet had no where near the violence or culture of death that the crack epidemic spawned. Probably mostly due to scale of population and isolation, I bet it'd be pretty hard to develop a crippling gang subculture around dealing drugs in a town of 300 ppl with no road to the outside world in the summer. But then that made me think of how how some depressing as shit reserve years back with like 90% unemployment and unreal levels of alcoholism/solvent abuse/teenage suicide in northern ontario hosted a poverty summit and the ppl from Nowhere Eastern Europe kept bugging the locals by saying how nice everything looked and how everyone had such great big TVs. ;)

Rio would be an awesome city to set GTA in. They actually had Rio as a level in Driver 2 - Unfortunately, we know how that turned out (even though I liked it).

The city is HUGE, the music is great, and the woman are incredible. Oh, and there's definitely a ton of violence and corruption down there. Heh...and there's a chance I could be moving there in the next couple of years.

GTA:Rio. C'mon Rockstar, make it happen.

Let's get back to the real issue at hand here, which is that City of God is ridiculously awesome.

Anyway, I'd rather see them do a GTA:Tokyo before they hit up Rio, though Rio could admittedly be very cool.

They just need to take about 15 years to develop GTA:Earth.

Imagine being able to hijack a plane and go anywhere in the world.

This game will never happen, but it would be awesome. Especially if it were somehow MMO.
