At a glance, the plots of UC Gundam and The Expanse are kind of similar, just without mecha. I... hadn't really heard of the Expanse until today. It sounds cool. Should I check it out?

Yes, though the plot doesn't have similarities actually. It's more of the political and social situation that does. If you enjoy UC Gundam for that aspect, I think you'll like the Expanse. I'm a huge fan of both.
