There's always a ton of books being made into movies. Some of people's favorite epics, like Harry Potter and LOTR were huge successes. Though of course it's going to dissapoint some of the fans. But considering that they could do the book right in your eyes, and the right budget and director is doing it, what would be you dream book-to-movie? Graphic novels and novels both. Personally, my favorites are all graphic novels, never been huge into books. So I'd love to see Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, and Berserk done right. Although even thinking of how that'd be possible for Watchmen and especially Berserk boggles the mind, which is the reason why in a lot of ways I don't even want to see this next Watchmen attempt, but those would be my dream books to movies.

Dark Tower - someone here mentioned a HBO series style adaption, though which would be a lot better.
Y the Last Man - I think this would make a great movie/series
Discworld - but must be done by Terry Gilliam

My friend told me about this, it sounds amazing. I kept picturing a well done anime though as he told me it.

Enders Game is being made into a Live Action film.

I would choose the Tripod Trilogy by John Christopher for sentimental reasons.

EDIT: themadcowtipper beat me to it

ugh, I don't like the director. His movies just aren't memorable at all.
I really Like Das Boot, Outbreak, and In the line of fire , but yeah his track record recently has not been as good. The only movie of his I hated was Troy.

they call me "Man Gravy".

Considering King's major influences for this series were a seminal series of movies (Sergio Leone westerns) and the LOTR series, I think in the right hands this would be incredible.

Ender's Game has been in development hell for ages. They still don't have a usable script. For my money, that's a good thing. If it's going to be done in live-action, I want those zero gravity fights to be damned impressive and not limited by weak CGI. I also hope they have the balls to make the movie as rough as the book. I don't want them making some neutered flick because it has kids in it. I want to see
Ender kill that other kid with his bare hands.

Somehow, I ultimately don't really trust Hollywood to do the book right.

i actually visualized an HBO style adaptation of Dark Tower for a while now. it has to be a series because its too huge.
also an HBO series for Berserk.
a movie for "altered carbon".
a big budget trilogy of the alastair reynolds novels.
a king rat movie.
a perdido street station video game would rock as well.

Dragonlance books

The Chronicles/Legends series would be nice. Id' be more interested in watching the Legends series, but the other series would obviously have to come first.

I heard a while ago that the guy who did Samurai Jack was going to do an HBO series for the Dark Tower?

Before it gets turned into a movie, though, Stephen King needs to go back and fix the last two books, because they fucking suck compared to the rest. Write yourself out of the story for fuck's sake you pussy, and give us the real ending to this great saga. Totaly ruined the series for me and my dad that he did that. :( Plus what the fuck was up with the Dark Tower itself? Way to throw everything else you've written about its interior out the window for a totaly predictable, shitty ending.

Fucker.

Red Mars - Kim Stanley Robinson
not only would it be a cool movie but there would be sequals :)

SciFi Channel is doing that as a mini-series.

If it does well, hopefully they'll do Green Mars and Blue Mars but stop there and not do The Martians.

Will never happen.

Fox owns the rights to Foundation, and was going to greenlight a movie series based on the box office perfomance of SOLARIS. RETARDS!

Where's Waldo?
Near the end of the movie, Waldo would still be unfound. Then in the final scene, a bunch of people of various ages and nationalities would stand up and say "I'm Waldo". With that, we'd realize that Waldo is within us all.

Hahaha, brilliant. :lol :lol

I actually read that there was a Where's Waldo? movie in development at one point.

My friends and I were joking about it at ComiCon last year. We had Jeff Goldblum as Waldo. :lol

"And, ah, here you see, that, ah, I have, a hat!" *Holds up striped hat and waves it at the crowd*

Don't exactly think it was a blockbuster, but I thought the 70s movie version was a pretty good adaptation.

(Ender's Game picture)
People have already mentioned this is in the works. I didn't realize it was until after I read the full series, so for a while I was actually thinking about how it could make an interesting movie. I was thinking it could be a neat trick to have an Ender's Game movie and Ender's Shadow movie made together, which could even share some footage. Sounds like the movie will be an amalgamation of both, though, so... yeah, it'll probably have more trouble squeezing everything in than most book-to-film adaptations.

There's a blast from the past! I read them something like a dozen years ago, but they made a pretty big impression on young me.

Oh damn, that's tough enough in 2 dimensions. Imagine a version where he's only there from 1 hour 15 minutes 32 seconds to 1 hour 15 minutes 48 seconds!

I think they should do the Dune series justice.. I still couldn't get into the mini-series. :(
I've been recently reading these books, and so haven't watched any of the movie versions yet... but wow would trying to do the whole series be a humongous task.

Hmm. You really think Dragonlance would fly? I just finished first six books, last trilogy being war of twins saga and they are offly juvenile. Maybe as anime or toon perhaps, would be more fitting. I think would need alot editing, multiple gods angle and most story be driven to sell board games and all. Though characters like Raistlin, drizzt have quite a popularity with young folk or fantasy nerds, maybe be more successful then that last D&D flick.

There is a film based on this book (it's by Jostein Gaarder, btw). It's probably five-six years old by now.

I'd love to see Dan Simmons' Hyperion-series made into a film. Actually, I think work began on adapting the series into a trilogy some time ago, but I haven't read anything about it lately.

It would also be awesome if Terry Gilliam got to finish his Don Quijote-project.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Though I hear it's already in development...hope it turns out alright. It's one of my favorite books.

Chronicles of Nar....,
or how about Lord of the..., wait, wait,
how about Dune... oh...
2001? already done?
The Shinning? no...

Seriously though, how about the Sword of Truth series.

Think 'Dude, Where's My Car?' only with a gang of 20-something dumbasses looking for their pal Waldo for the entire movie. The gimmick is that, while they're on this grand adventure looking for him, he keeps popping up in the scenery and background crowds. The audience will see him if they're looking, but the main characters don't find him until the very end.

Sad thing is, Iam sure this would get greenlighted.

:lol I love when decent suggestions come up for what seem like stupid ideas. Like for some numbskull reason I've brainstormed about a Weekend at Bernie's TV series.

I'd like to see The Master & Margarita. Hyperion series would be awesome if they could pull it off, but it'd be a long shot to do it right methinks. Ringworld, the Forge of God and the Forever War would be shweet too.

I think the comic book series Preacher would make an awesome action/road movie. But a movie version would be much more tame than the comic book.

Although I'd LOVE to see a movie as wild as the comics: angel and demon sex, jaws getting shot off left and right, God quitting, "martian niggers," Arseface, the Reaper Cleaver and his victims, the Saint of Killers. This shit rocks! :lol

To see Ender's Game get a successful (as in, GOOD) remake as a movie would be nuts. Even make a series out of it like Harry Potter. All the books. Would be damn near impossible which is why I would choose it, since it is the least likely to ever happen.

In actuality, I doubt the current incarnation will ever get past preproduction. As it has been in preproduction for like 8 years now :lol. I remember them thinking of having that Star Wars kid do Ender.

Second choice would be Snow Crash. Neal Stephenson's best book IMO.
