What sort of reaction do you think graphics like Half-Life 2 or even console stuff like Mario Sunshine or Madden would get in 1984/85 when the NES and Super Mario Brothers was just starting to creep into homes?

Halflife 2 in the 80s would have been so cheesy looking, not cause of the graphics but because of the syle. If the game was based in the year 2000 which would have been the future back then, there would be flying cars and robots everywhere.
I always used to talk about that with my best friend... we'd be like "imagine people playing the first Metal Gear on NES or something, they reach the next level and suddenly they're seeing a cutscene from MGS2 on their TV"... the most obvious reaction would probably be "Who changed the channel?!"
They'd complain about the controls, save features ("Save game!? What's that and why do I have to pay $25 for it??"), but probably be pretty impressed by the graphics.
In contrast, do you think if we saw a game from 2024 we'd be BLOWN AWAY by it?
I'd be dissappointed. I mean, do you really want to see games from 2024 now? Think about it for a bit, most games will have EA trax on them and will just be the same games we have now, but with 2024 added to the end. By then, EA will have bought the following companies:
Activision
UBIsoft
Capcom
Midway
Sega
989
Rare (cause god forbid EA would make a good version of goldeneye on their own)
I'd take back Gran Turismo 4 and collect the eyeballs that would pop out when people see how much graphics have improved. Then I'll come back to the present and sell the eyeballs on eBay.
I'd also bring my GBA SP with Super Mario 3 and bring it to the premiere of The Wizard.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to bring a PSP. They'd probably bow down and worship you like a god the way the natives did when the Spanish first arrived in New World.
