If you see Folder, beat his ass.

i had to walk 20 minutes from my car to the bar and find out there was no free drinks so i go to the virgin megastore pick up my friend and go back to the bar past 1030 and still no free drinks. that's fucked up to buddyc. seems like a cool guy when i met him.

I still don't get the story.

Folder told everyone there he'd throw a party and pay for it himself? And then he didn't show? How many people went? No one realized he didn't show up?

No he threw a party that nintendo was gonna pay for. Probably the dude at "Nintendo" that showed him the GC spec handheld. :lol I was gonna be one of the first to be calling out people that ragged on folder as well. You know after he went to the effort of throwing people a party and all. Although BuddyC said there is more to the story, can't be much more since folder is banned though.

Folder seems like a dick!

BUDDY C is one of few people that doesnt ride my back when i make a topic, he is on my side:)

so i really hate to see that this happend to him, he is a good man!

So I'm still a little unclear...a guy who pretty much lies for a living says Nintendo is going to throw a party for people who post on Gaming Age and everybody's surprised that once they schlep out to the middle of nowhere the free drinks aren't at all free?

I guess everyone thought this is the way he was going to redeem himself. Plus I bet everyone wanted an excuse to go out drinking that night plus it was a GAF get together as well.

Maybe.

But why would Nintendo throw a party for people who post on Gaming Age, many of whom don't work in the video game industry?

And why would Folder be able to enlist Nintendo to throw a party for his friends/acquaintances?

It doesn't make sense. And given the guy's awesome relationship with the truth, it seems odd anyone would be surprised that he'd lie about this party.

I look forward to hearing the full story.

it was a get together in the name of goodtimes + fun. He didn't have to say anything, much less lie. Its one thing to be an ass on the internet, its another to be an ass in person; especially when there's others involved.

you make it sound like its the fault of the others who believed him.

Yeah that's true, I don't see any reasoning for Nintendo to pick up tabs for a GAF party either. I look forward to hearing the full story as well and I predict that the story will not be in favour of Folder. (and he rightfully deserves to get his ass kicked)

1) I seem to remember that he promised a new, very powerful Game Boy system...not a repackaging of an old one. I also seem to remember that people (especially Kobun Heat) were calling him out for making contradictory claims.

2) Folder didn't show to his OWN FUCKING PARTY last night, and left BuddyC with a $300+ bar tab.

So, I would predict that Folder won't be back here. MEGAT0N!

Way to spread shit Jinx. Very responsible of you.

This was all covered in this thread by the way:

As for the new gameboy - yeah he did. I heard the same thing too. Looks like we both heard wrong. I also heard Mario 128 would finally be playable, but that was wrong too. Alas. At least we got Mario Soccer right... [hangs head in shame]

I'm amazed anyone actually believed he'd come through. But at the same time, you guys have noone to blame but yourselves for buying all those drinks before he showed up and expecting them to be free...

Good theory, but I swear to you this is and was absolutely legit. Rob (the guy who was to be picking up the tab) spoke to me about this over the phone when I was getting some info from him regarding a story the week before. Don't know what happened. Saw him on the last day and forgot to ask.

Having read both threads, sounds like jinx simply stated exactly what happened. :P

a) Folder didn't show up at the party HE PROMISED FREE DRINKS AT.

b) BuddyC picked up the tab of $300+.

So where's the "shit" he's spreading? The only shit that spreads around usually comes from Sponge. :P

a) He showed up on the wrong day. I think Buddy C was there also (so perhaps he showed on both days), though could be mistaken.

b) Yes he did. Not sure what's happening in terms of him being reimbursed.

Indeed.

Weird. I heard (from Folder):

A - Some people showed on Monday, others showed on Wednesday
B - Rob from Nintendo didn't show to pick up the tab as promised (I know this was not a lie, for I also am acquainted with Rob)
C - Buddy C picked up the tab with his credit card
D - He confronted Folder the next day, in an aggressive/rude way to get money off him for the evening, as he was part responsible for setting the drinks meet up with Buddy C
E - Folder told him where to stick it (not so much because of the money, but because of Buudy C's approach)

This, I believe, is Folder's side of the story.

Comedy gold.

That's some fucked up shit right there. I feel sorry for buddyC, that blows. I wonder what Folder's explanation was gonna be....

On another note, when did everybody start listening to Sp0ng again? :lol

well all the guys who had drinks should pay BuddyC some money. Its not hard to send some money right? And because we have pics, we know who drank right? :|

Its also not that hard for Folder to have rung anyone in that crew, problem remedied - seeing how he'd promised in the first instance. All this reflects really poorly on Folder.

I won't copy/paste the message he sent me (I had planned to be silent about this, but under the circumstances...), but I had a very funny PM from Folder a few days before E3 more or less menacing me of revealing I had no NDA with MS about Xbox 360 (which of course I had). Folder actually contacted someone (apparently clueless) from Redmond to verify this and all.
Comedy gold.

The Pre-E3 GAF Meet (as organized by Folder and sponsored by Nintendo)

When: Monday, May 16th, 8:30 PM to late (the bar closes at midnight), so be sure to stop by after More Friends and the MS Press Conference/Party.

Where: The Cabo Cantina located on Sunset Strip, just up from The Standard and across the street from The Body Shop.

Remember: The drinks are free because Folder and Nintendo love you. And it's a bar, so if your ID doesn't show you as 21, at best, it might not matter, at worst, you might not get in.

The Traditional E3 Meet

When: Wednesday, May 18th, 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM or so

:lol

wow. I have always thought folder is just a bit cocky and rude...but... but.. :lol

Yeah I agree. If Folder decides to never pay, those who were there and had a good time should man up and just pay for their share of the drinks. It would be the right thing to do.

Trust me, you're not the only one here who's received 'menacing' PMs from Folder. :lol

It does reflect badly on him, yes. Did he even have any of your phone numbers though?

i was also wondering why some of the other dudes didn't chip in? that would have been the right thing to do, even if unexpected.

:lol @ boutrous trying to cover his spongy buddy's ass

boutrous: let folder fight his own battles, you're just embarassing yourself

Thanks for the advice, though I'm sticking up for him because he's a friend, I think it's all a mistake and don't like seeing him get unfairly owned like this. Also, please spell my name correctly.

John makes a wonderful point here, and it's one I'd like everyone to note. We checked with the bar to see if there were was a card behind the bar for us, and when they said no, I made sure people had the money to pay for their drinks before they bought them. Then the waitresses "needed" to leave and we needed to cash out our tab, just as things were getting hectic, so I took care of it knowing I could catch most of the guys on the forum if I needed to. Then, as more people were showing up, I just set up another tab behind the bar, gave it a limit and assumed I would be the one to take care of it.

Folder sends me PMs now and then. He seems to think I work for Nintendo. Me and a few friends have sent fake stories to SPoNG that have been published. Funny stuff.

And if you guys started buying drinks before the guy with the supposed dough showed up, you pretty much deserve the bill. Trusting Folder is a mistake. Never let it happen again.

Ok can we please put a stop to this? Yes Folder may be a douchbag in this case, but I think this is starting to get dirty and out of hand. PMs are private messages and they should stay private, just because the situation is not in someone's favor at the moment and he's fallen into really bad opinion doesn't mean that the decent moral rules shouldn't apply to them in the same way.

Ehh, I don't think posting private messages is ethical. (even if someone is a wanker)

BTW, BuddyC - did this really happen?

D - He confronted Folder the next day, in an aggressive/rude way to get money off him for the evening, as he was part responsible for setting the drinks meet up with Buddy C
E - Folder told him where to stick it (not so much because of the money, but because of Buudy C's approach)

A lot of posters are quick to judge. From the facts presented in this thread it sounds like a combination of poor planning and a possible misunderstanding, but I guess they'll sort it amongst themselves. Anyone who got their drink on really should send a PayPal to buddyc though.

Even a friend has got to realize when someone has flat-out fucked up. Not everything is defensible.

I absolutely agree and would have no problem telling Stef when he's being a cock. He and I have had our fallings out in the past so I've seen the worst and best of him.

Point is, none of us know the full story. Buddy C filled me in some of his side. Stef gave me an abridged version when we hung out for a bit on the first day. As far as I can see, this is simply a case of misunderstanding.

Hold back your judgements until both sides have given their story. Stef will probably give his whenever it is that he gets home.

Okay - Everyone get there for 9.00 - rest of evening. Sorry, I know 9.00 is a bit late but this is LA where that kind of thing doesn't matter.
