IGN FIFA PSP

Who here said it was good?

And this is IGN who is rather generous with the scores.

Tiger Woods scored better I believe.

I really wish IGN would assign people to games throughout their entire development. Meaning, the same guy does the preview, hands-on, and then review. Alot of the things that are being complained about in the review were talked about as no big deal in the preview. So what to believe? The preview or review?

as long as i can play as ipswich on the go, i care not! :)

Just as an aside, WE8 Livewire is a BROKEN PIECE OF SHIT. I'm very VERY annoyed with it. Grrrr.

No. 1 gripe - every time i thread a ball through and use the instant control to glide past any remaining defenders (like i have done for the last god knows how many WE games) WHY does my player F*CKING STOP !!!

Also - having one or two 35 yard screamers going in doesn't bother me in a good 5-6 hours gaming, but when it starts happening almost every other game?

And the physical nudge system - now as soon as you press it , the ref blows up, whilst the CPU basically flattens you every time and gets away with it.

And what's with all the little pauses all the time?
And WHY is the slow down as bad as ever?
grrrr. f*cking take a break for a year or two and give us a TRUE follow up, i'm fucking sick of the milking, and now the game is broken - well done you cock lords.

Yeah no shit. It's weird to hear positive things about a game for weeks and then the thing gets slammed for stuff that makes you go huh? The review sites need to settle on whether they are going to compare PSP stuff to the consoles or other handhelds. Compared to other handhelds this game is very satisfying. Compared to consoles it's meh. As a traveler I tickled to have this game in my library.

First Touch control was the biggest improvement to the home FIFA games last year and the ability to direct and incoming pass in a direction that confuses the defense was an welcomed feature for many soccer gamers.

With sentences like these I often wonder if anyone bothers to edit anything at IGN.

On the other hand, previews are based on stuff that usually gets worked out or will be something you can get used to. FIFA looked fine in the preview video, so long as they would have fixed the hiccups. Never happened. The thing plays like preview software, just like Tiger did -- like that very last layer of finishing polish never happened.

Reaching for first-touch though, I'm not sure how that was supposed to work.

Even if WE8 if you have the right touch you can score on a very high percentage of those long shots. The guy needs to have some space obviously to get the right amount of power, but it is very possible. Hard as hell to do, but possible. Of course I can't comment on the new version of WE, just saying it happens in the older version as well if you are good enough.

Hell in the same game in WE8 I scored on a cross on a direct kick (from the halfway point) and my friend scored on a kick from one line inside of the halfway marker. That is a big part of the beauty of WE in that if you have the right skill you can pretty much do anything.

Not to derail the thread, but I have to insert my quota of WE whoring in any sports game thread.

Well, in the preview they said reaching for first touch would be no problem once you got used to it. The thing is exact things that sound like "deal breakers" in the review were not a problem at all in the preview. If there is some concern about things in a game in the preview, please say it. Don't brush it off or say that it is no big deal, THEN do a 180 in the reviews.

sure - i've no problems with that, but we are talking teams like Slovenia, Greece, etc ... all consisitantly scoring from waaaay outside of the box. There is nothing worse than bossing a game against a fairly tight defensive side, then having the "magic" 35 yarder fly in near the end.

% wise, it feels wrong - people don't score long range efforts like that all the time. :(

I'd disagree personally. I think a lot hinges on the players stats when you try stuff, which is part of my bone of contention. Okay - if i play Brazil, Argentina, and Spain - and in each game they score a 35 yarder , i can accept it. But Greece? Slovenia? I know i'm playing on the higher skill level, but it's just frustrating.

I'd still take WE8 liveware over any other soccer game (EXCEPT the previous version! ;) )
but i just feel Konami are taking the piss, and i feel that these gripes are a symptom of them just whoring this franchise too much.

They need to break from it and make a true follow up. For next gen. With nice graphics (i know it's graphic whorish, but i drool when i think what this game could look like next gen with that animation system and much better models) and all the glitches gone.

Crazy as it sounds, the two plays I was talking about were done with Mexico and Senegal. :lol

I play a ton of WE with a few friends and we sometimes get sick of how easy it can be to penetrate with the great teams, so we will see how good we can play with a shitty team like Mexico (thus far the worst team we have seen in the game).

When you have really good players, like Brazil or the club teams we rarely take those crazy shots because it is so much easier to get penetration and we try to set up the sure goal.

I don't like games that limit you with percentages by the way. That is one thing I love about WE is that it seems that anything is possible on almost any play if you have the skill and vision to pull it off. Never really felt that with any other sports game before.

It sounds like you are playing against the computer though, so I can't really judge that as it definitely might be cheating and that would suck of course.

And stop your bitching, you guys get the online version in japan! I don't really care about online in most games, but since there are like 3 people in the US who play soccer games I would kill to be able to go online and test my skills against the rest of the world. :D

I play my best (PES4) soccer against friends when I use teams like Iran or Scotland. I'm more disciplined and concerned with the subtleties and tactics, since I can't afford to do anything ambitious. It's more fun that way, though I love then choosing, say, Classic Argentina and humiliating them with Maradona and Di Stefano. :)

he he - i know, i know! :)

I should register, although a friend of equal standing has been spanked online numerous times...

I'm sure it'll be more of the same. I played one japanese guy from work who said he was alright and he absolutely took me apart in the first game we played - after that , it was 50/50, but the humiliation of the first game still burns...
