IGN Game of the month for Nov = Ratchet and Clank 3

Why We Picked It: When you're up against titles like Jak 3 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in the same month and still manage to be the best game on the block, you're definitely something special. And special is exactly what Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal truly is, as it's the single best game we played in the month of November -- a month that ranked as one of the single best in the PlayStation 2's four year history.

Dunno if I agree with their choice, but I do agree with this line:

a month that ranked as one of the single best in the PlayStation 2's four year history.

Even further, is it me or was 2004 the year of the PS2. Looking at the games released, along with the reviews, the PS2 cleaned shop in 2004. With God of War and Wanda, 2005 looks just as promising.

I agree. The PS2 had a very good year. All systems did, in my opinion- minus the Nintendo handhelds.

MGS3 was robbed.

Well, if it's any consolation, both R&C3 & Jak 3 seem to be in for a whipping behind the wood shed when November NPD comes out. Their retail presence, position in retail charts, and rental revenue all point to disappointing sales.

Great move by Sony. Why not release them a month or two earlier and, at the very least, a month in-between each other?

And GT4. Never forget!

Impressive as by all accounts they didn't even win E3

I thought PSP was given the official "Best of Show" award. Doesn't mean much for this year though, at least in the US.

As for this game winning, I can't really say anything since I haven't played it yet. If the single player part is of the same quality as R&C2 and the online is done well, than the multiplayer may have tipped the scales in its favor. But as much as I like the series I can't imagine the actual single player game being on the same level as MGS3. Apples and oranges, but MGS3 is a really nice apple.

Discounting R&C 3's online mode for a moment, I just don;t understand what the big deal about it was. Sure, it was a fun game but it wasn't really any different then R&C 2. This and Jak 3 are the Crash and Spyro of this generation, which in hindsight were just not that good or that innovative. They are the platform equivalent of Madden or NBA Live, games that shoot out a version every year with just incremental upgrades that should have just been expansion packs.

Perhaps R&C's online mode is what made it win this prize... I never tried it. As far as single player games go (since that is what 80% of people playing it will ever see) there are better more innovative games that came out in November.

Well, as long as IGNPS2 rectifies their mistake and awards MGS3 GOTY there won't be any problems. :D

And I actually don't mind seeing R&C3 take GOTM. Game is awesome. But Jak 3 as the number one runner up ahead of MGS3? Puhhhhhhhhlllllleeeeeaaaaaaase. Yeah everyone has an opinion and mine is that this ranking is total crap. :D

I don't mind that R&C3 won GOTM. It's a fine game, but I still think MGS3:SE is better.

What gets me is how they can say Jak 3 is better than MGS3:SE!!!

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was the best PS2 game released in November 2004. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Look it up!

It's not a big deal though, seems like most people know the truth anyway.

I don't think they were actually suggesting that MGS3 was actually a runner-up behind Jak3, just that there were two runner-ups, on equal footing. Not that that really remedies the injustice for some of you, I know ;)

You clearly didn't play R&C 3.

It's only fitting for MGS3 to be looked over so much by everyone.....same way as the first MGS, which was fantastic.

If course it's MGS2 that gets overhyped and overrated by reviews. Hillarious.

MGS3 is GOTY.
