IGN: How CD Projekt Red Got Cyberpunk 2077 Running on Switch 2

Switch 2 is a very capable machine that punches way above its weight thanks to DLSS, uniform hardware, and Nintendo/Nvidia partnership.

Switch 1 had a number of miracle ports where games ran much better than anyone expected. Switch 2 will too.

This shit fps bad gameplay game that runs like shit even on PS5 Pro and has graphics that look like a PS4 game on PS5 Pro isn't anything that I care about, but Switch 2 is elite so I'm sure it was very easy to get running.

What would be a miracle port is if they added 3rd person gameplay so the game was actually fun.

I'm not surprised.

The Switch 1 has done wonders (TW3 and No Man's Sky), and knowing that Cyberpunk is coming in the first wave of the console's release proves that there's inevitably room for improvement.

'How'? Because it's a bespoke version for Switch 2. There's no Ally X version. It's just running the PC game that's not optimized specifically for the X

Also, DLSS helps. It's a shame AMD hamstrung the Z2 Extreme with no support for FSR4
Ally X is a PC so his version is the PC version. 🤦‍♂️

It would be the only handheld version if the PCs handheld versions don't count for reasons. 🤦‍♂️²

It being built to run on those old Jaguar CPUs for PS4/X1 is likely the only reason this is possible. If this was ground up for current gen consoles and they fully took advantage of the current CPUs for simulation and the core game design, they'd have had to traverse a 7-9x gap in CPU power.

Believe he is talking about the overall experience and the ability to use joycons as a mouse and such. A bit subjective in that sense.

Timestamp....

Using a mouse on SW2 would not be the handheld mode anymore plus we can use a mouse on Ally X and other handheld PCs too, plus better graphics and frame rate.

It will be interesting to see some direct comparisons between Switch 2 and the Z1 Extreme handhelds after launch.

Relax, grandpa.

The Phantom Liberty expansion was made for the current gen consoles from ground up.

Nop, only Nintendo fans pays overpriced price for old tech, also true BC is only on PC
be like Nintendo, put out last gen hardware with 90 dollars game and fan ll buy into it. no need to waste money in "modern" tech.

"we just downgraded it until it ran ok"
Afaik, since DLSS is a thing on Switch 2, they don't need to create all the frames for 30fps. They can let DLSS be their "intelligent" interpolation between, maybe 2 (DLSS1) or 3 (DLSS2) real frames. That gives you quite a lot of time to fill the frame buffer with the next real frame. So they don't have to downgrade it as much as some might expect. Of course, relying so much on DLSS brings its own set of challenges.

"Impossible port"

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty minimum requirements on Steam:

"impossible port" has always just meant nuking the visuals until it ran okay.

You could put Red Dead 2 on Switch and make it look like this:

And Digital Foundry would've proclaimed it a miracle.

You know the Switch 2 has oofers hardware when articles are written on how a 2025 next generation system is even capable of running a last gen game from five years ago. Not sure why would anybody want to experience the worst version of the game, especially after all this time.

The magic is called dlss

Were you can run a game internally at 540p and upscaled it to 1080p. Magically makes running a game much easier

It'll run but will it look good? Highly doubt it. You should buy this game on much more capable machines honestly so that you don't have to deal with the downgrades.

Okay, but the Deck has been around for a long time at this point. And we can't be talking about price when the Switch is expensive af.
Is just $50 more than the SD 256 LCD model, I think the price is fair and in line with my expectations, also looks like is going to have better results than more expensive machines.

CDPR themselves said in the same interview that it wasn't too difficult getting the game running so well on the Switch 2, but the words "impossible port" attracts so many views that the head to use them so don't look too much into that

Interviewer: How do you manage to make this impossible port on Switch 2?

Dev: We didn't have any problems, in fact was a lot easier than we expected… Really impressive.

Interviewer: But the Switch 2 ia on par with a PS4…

Dev: Not at all, is better in all aspects.

IGN title: Cyberpunk switch 2 the impossible port, Switch 2 worse than a 5090 😂
