IGN KOTOR II Review

While I was playing through my second time, I decided to go dark side. Some of the things I had to do to max out my dark side meter made me sick to my stomach. They made me feel like I wasn't the same person anymore, and I absolutely loved it. When a game can do that you, you know it is the stuff of legend.
Oh, and for reference sake, how many hours have those of you who have played it put into it? For me, it would be about 180. Beat the game four times. Twice light, twice dark.

While i enjoyed playing through KOTOR ( i went completely darkside), there was no way i was going to play through it again as a light side character. The game wasn't compelling enough to replay and the coolest powers were the darkside ones anyway. I'm suprised so many people had misgivings about being evil in the game, i had no problem being a completely evil character.

Is this one any less crappy then the first?...

I tried to play KOTOR, but after it crashed on me 6 times in the first 30 minutes... I put the game up and never played it again.

How about taking it back and getting a replacement copy rather then wasting you’re money?

hehe, yea i probly should of took it back, not sure why i never took it back, guess i wanted to play it.

But, other xbox games play great, just that one was crapping out on me.

And i'm not saying the game is crappy, I guess i am, but only because it wouldn't let me play it.

frequent and long load times...

=/

if they can make halo 2/metroid prime have no loadtimes....i know they can make an rpg have no load times...

peace

I agree. Getting Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos in the same year sure was nice.

:lol :lol :lol

Exceptional GOTY quality RPGs. Those you mentioned dont even come close (they would be scoring well into the nine's)

KOTOR beat out Zelda TWW, ToS isnt even in the same league

"There are also a number of bugs in the game. This was the case with the first game as well, but again, I'd hoped for a smoother experience the second time around, but KOTOR II actually seems a little buggier."

This worries me a bit, as I did encounter some nasty bugs in the first one.

KOTOR is great, and it looks like KOTOR2 too. +1 great RPG to Xbox this year. :)

And yes, 2004 is the year of Xbox...

- Ninja Gaiden
- FullSpectrum Warrior
- DOAU
- Fable
- KOTORII
- Riddick
- Halo2
- Rallysport 2
- Outrun 2

... and much more

It probably wasn't the disk you got but rather your xbox. From what I've heard, KotOR crashes alot on some xboxes (mostly launch ones).

Let me guess... you played the PC version right? Cuz thats the version full with bugs, not the xbox version.
The only bug i have found in the xbox version was the pathfinding bug of our party chars in the last level. (some times the party members got stuck and we needed to wait for them)

Can't we just say that all the consoles had a stellar year for game releases?

MINE :D Cant wait to play on the evil side again, the original KOTOR had so many nasty choices that i thought i was really a bastard and jerk for choosing them, even though they're just virtual characters.

I can't believe anyone lucid would argue against the quality of KOTOR. An RPG for those of us who have grown past the pastel Japanophile crap that I've had to wade through on my PS2.

My faith in Obsidian has been rewarded, it seems.

Believe it or not, there are some of us who prefer the "pastel Japanophile crap" to the drab dullness of so many Western games.

I'm convinced of KOTOR's qualities, though, and I haven't even played it, but it's been touted as the end-all-be-all of RPGs by Xbox owners ever since it was released, so I'm sure it's pretty good. I just wish they had a new RPG to tout. You know, for variety's sake. Enter KOTOR 2, I guess.

Im gonna play good again, i didnt mean to last time, but i always end up playing how i would like to be in real life. Seems like theres a hell of a lot more variety in what happens light vs dark this time round (with all your companions changing as you do) so i'll probably be motivated to play it through twice, rather than just going back far enough to trigger the alternative endings like i did in KOTOR.

40 hours though? f00k there goes my christmas.

To me, it's not even really the whole "pastel Japanophile crap" thing(although that is catchy, Bish). It's about whether or not you want to play an rpg that tells you a story or allows your choices to have an impact on how the story unfolds. I can't think of one rpg from Japan this gen that allows me such freedom(I'm sure someone is going to correct me on that, however).

Also, there seem to be lots of plot devices that get used over and over again in Japanese rpgs. Couple that staleness with the lack of player impact on how the plot of the game unfolds and it just seems like you're being told a story or watching some anime more than playing an actual game. If that's your cup of tea, fine. But at least acknowledge that it's not exactly a very interactive experience(and please don't tell me that you have "connections" with the characters).

OMG, i laught at that list... ok, MGS3, GTA:SA and Onimusha 3 are the only ones that are worth the money, for the Gamecube list, i dont even bother comenting cuz its llike if it didnt existed for me.
And Flash News for you, Winning Eleven 7 its not an PS2 exclusive anymore, u can play it in a Xbox now, and online (its called Pro Evolution Soccer 4) if u dont have a PAL Xbox, get one.

Well, we could, but... where is the fun in that? :D
