With what? Ninja Gaiden, Halo 2 and KOTOR2?

PS2 has GTA SA, MGS3, R&C3, SMTIII, etc, etc... JUST GIVE UP MAN! :P

let's see, I bought Ninja Gaiden, Halo 2, and plan on buying KOTOR2 for my Xbox. For my PS2... none of the above :(

Great score. Whats the release date for the pc version?
I can't stand the movies, so why the hell would I want to play a game based on it, no matter how good you think the story and the gameplay are?
KOTOR >> All Star Wars movies. If you like rpg you should defenatly play KOTOR, the game is just great, and it seems that the sequal is just as good.
Can't wait :)

Haha, let's make a deal.

You keep playing Xenosaga, and I'll keep playing KOTOR1/2. Deal?

Where did I say that I liked Xenosaga? Xbots are so quick to jump to conclusions... just like all their favorite games :P

The haters need to know this...

KOTOR storms into the console RPG arena and curb stomps everything in it's path. It is the game of Kings, and it's sequel will lay waste to everything within a 1,000 mile radius. The game is blessedly bereft of most all tired RPG cliches(you don't play as a whiny androgynous teenager in a conflicted love triangle who has to take his ragtag band of heroes to fight the same boss in 10 different forms as they stand in a line and jump forward to attack). Oh no. Your character is a badassssssssssssssss mutha fucka.

Don't try and step to KOTOR. You make yourself look foolish even trying. People who don't like RPGs like KOTOR. People who don't like Star Wars like KOTOR. For fucks sakes, even Speevy and Anihawk like KOTOR.

So kneel in recognition of the King of RPGs for this gen. OR YOU WILL BE KNELT.

He may be drunk half the time but he knows what he is talking about. Except for there was love thing between Bastilla and the protaginist.

Xbot, me? Bwahahahaha. Nice try though.

I didn't mean Xenosaga, I meant games like Xenosaga, which is basically what the entire JRPG lineup on the PS2 consists of.

Yeah, but love triangle usually means three people. :)

Well that's not my problem if you don't have the time/money to play great games on two consoles. It's not because you can't play them that you should ignore them though.

Same could be said for you and all those games on the Xbox, Gigadent Jr.

You forgot Carl (or whatever his name was) you could sense the sexual tension there :P
Really I wish RPG's would also forget about having 'a love subplot' attached to the plot of the story. That's what I should of been clearer on.

Sing it loud!
Bioware essentially knocked what everyone thought a typical RPG should be to the ground. In KOTOR, it doesn't necessarily matter who your character is, but how he acts. Help the helpless, slaughter the masses, these are the actions that create your character, and they are chosen by you. You are not handed some character with a $500 haircut that you could care less about, and expect to love the game. You mold your character, and it not only affects your appearence, it affects the story. While I was playing through my second time, I decided to go dark side. Some of the things I had to do to max out my dark side meter made me sick to my stomach. They made me feel like I wasn't the same person anymore, and I absolutely loved it. When a game can do that you, you know it is the stuff of legend.
Oh, and for reference sake, how many hours have those of you who have played it put into it? For me, it would be about 180. Beat the game four times. Twice light, twice dark.

I find it amusing how some of you guys treat the original KOTOR as the second coming of RPGs. I mean, sure, it's a great game and all but Bioware has been doing it for YEARS on the PC prior to KOTOR on the Xbox. Baldur's Gate, anyone?

IAWTP. Bioware has been revolutionizing the RPG genre ever since they started working on Video games, and they always worked with franchises(i.e. Forgotten Realms, Star Wars) Bioware is easily my favorite developer. Other than Retro and Insomniac of course.
Oh man, after posting this, I am even more excited for Bioware's upcoming IP, Jade Empire. It is going to be a long wait until March.

Yes, yes, yes! It sounds like they've made changes so that the choices you make and whether you're dark/light actually affect what characters join you, where you can go, etc. I really missed this in the first game; it didn't make sense for dark-side characters to be tagging along with me (when I was totally light), and it didn't make sense for light side characters to not care when I did something bad. The game didn't really change depending on who you were and what you did. But, it sounds like they've fixed that.

If it's like the first one, but with the above changes, it will be awesome. I can't wait! :)

I've put about 150 hours into the original KOTOR. Beat it 3 times, and started on another two characters.

Most time I've put into a game by FAR this gen. I expect to put just as much if not more time into the sequel(no level caps? HELLLLLLLLLOOOOOOO tricked out Sith Assassin of DOOM! You will die when I sneeze and you will LIKE IT!).

Were there actually a lot of changes in the first game depending on whether you were dark or light? I played through it once on the light side, and started playing again on the dark side, and I didn't notice any changes in the first 5 or so hours I played it.

Again: "It sounds like they've made changes so that the choices you make and whether you're dark/light actually affect what characters join you, where you can go, etc. I really missed this in the first game; it didn't make sense for dark-side characters to be tagging along with me (when I was totally light), and it didn't make sense for light side characters to not care when I did something bad. KOTOR was fun for me because it offered a lot of the openness of PC RPGs on a console, so it got a great mass audience. Hearing that KOTOR 2 was going to be developed by ex-Black Isle people was awesome, if only because IMO the Fallout games were really fun to play as a bad guy, so it'll be fun to be on the dark side in this one.

GOTY this year and GOTY next year due to the PAL release!

Also the person saying that KOTOR is over rated because it’s on an RPG starved system makes no sense as KOTOR is a gem on the PC.

He should also play the game.

Now the decision for me is, do I get KOTORII or GTA: SA once I beat MGS3? I loved both KOTOR and GTA:VC. I will eventually get both, but the question is , which one do I play first?

Which did you like better last time? Choose the lesser one, and start with that one's sequel.

I hate what's happened to Star Wars as a franchise, the marketing, the video games, the comics, the books, all of the excess; I really think it's bad for the series. So I naturally don't like KOTOR, especially because it's just a bunch of crap that Bioware made up.

Have you played the game?

Have you finished the game?

Do you have bad taste in games?

Were you dropped as a child or are you currently taking class A drugs?

You know, I actually tried this, and I couldn't get into it -- the interface was just too damn hard to get into. Any tipz?

Me too, I couldn't get into BG either. I was hesitant about KOTOR back when it first came out for that reason. KOTOR was terrific though, IMO.

Also,

You need to lay off the paint chips. KOTOR was great Star Wars game.

Fair enough the engine and rules are very hard to get to grips with.

Do you have BG2?

It has a decent tutorial system that works well for newbies, the key pieces of advice when playing BG games would be.

Save Often

Press space bar to pause when you see enemies then plan the battle, click the actions you need to then unpause

Also holding “alt” in BG2 highlights all interactive objects and items on the ground,

stick to the “paths/roads” at the start of BG1 there are some hardcore enemies that a level 1 party couldn’t deal with. Clear the naskel mines then go exploring.

Also don’t screw with a small boy looking of he dawgy called rufie he is a demon
From the 7th layer of hell (an insignificant spoiler)!

And Star Wars is just a bunch of crap that George Lucas made up. Your point?

How about this: The game tells a compelling story with great characters, writing and acting through gameplay and game design that are very fun.

And it is set in the Star Wars universe.

If you like good games, then you'll like it. I'm one of those people that does not limit myself to one genre in any entertainment medium - if it's good, chances are I'll like it. I like rock and classical, and westerns and drama. And games as diverse as Chu Chu Rocket! and KotOR. If it's good, why sit on your high horse and moan about it? You're just missing out.

Amusing ? You need to get out more because seriously its not even slap and tickle funny.

Bladurs gate was good, but icewind dale was better.

How's the story? I hear a lot about the gameplay and the star wars universe and atmosphere but KOTOR had one of my favorite storylines this gen. Cool twists, choices, characters, missions, etc. Everything you look for a more in an rpg. The main villain especially and lesser ones were all fantastic too and the epic nature of the story was there in spades. Better story than any recent Star Wars flick. So does this one match up in all those areas?

Er, no -- it is not. Compared to the best on the PC, KoTOR is a pedestrian introduction to the genre for neophytes. Compare it to Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate 2, Arcanum, and Gothic 2. It doesn't stand up the aforementioned titles in any respect.

KOTOR is a gem regardless of the system, just because games like BG2 are classics doesn’t mean KOTOR can’t be a great game.

A great game, perhaps, for one new to the genre. It bored me with its linearity and weightless light/dark system. Still, the sequel seems to have fixed some of the problems that hobbled the first.

I can't agree here. After playing and loving KOTOR on Xbox (it's second on the list of my all time favs) I tried both Baldur's Gate 2 and Neverwinter Nights on the PC, finding both much less enjoyable than KOTOR. Maybe it's because one has to play them with keyboard/mouse, maybe it's because KOTOR is so much better than BG2 or NWN. I don't know exactly why, but after a few hours of play both games felt extremely boring.

The problem with baldur’s gate is it takes a lot more then a “few hours” to get into it, there is no beginners dungeon at the start to ease you into the game.

You are virtually thrust into a huge game world with not a lot of guidance, after finishing the first dungeon at the naskel miens you should be hooked.

That’s probably like 10 hours into the game

Gothic 2 and Arcanum aren't in KoTOR's league. Fun games but very flawed ones at that. Fallout 2 was also a bug fest, but it's still a classic. Baldur's Gate 2 is the only one in your list that I'd consider as good if not better than the KoTOR series. Although none of the games you mention here would work on a console. You see KOTOR is designed for consoles. I realize that since it's not designed for the console that you are a viral marketer for that it must not be good, but nobody really gives a shit about your opinion on anything even remotely related to the Xbox and the software on it.
