IGN: Madden 2006 preview

John Maddens "Rehash 2006"!!! If its in the game, it must be lame.

So original :lol

Seriously, people who don't have a clue about the game should just STFU. ;)

Oh and Bionic they tallied up the time we'd been playin Madden and it was 9 months after release :P

Damn man, atleast be original with your trolling. When you actually play the game year after year, then you can tell me how it is a rehash.

They added that ball last year,in years past it looked like something you would buy from Wal-Mart for 5 bucks for pickup ball :lol

Sounds from an EA drone.

I'd just let the non sports gamer tools get their stupid snipes in. If you argue with them you get dragged down to their level of stupidity. Not like they would play the games every year so they knew what the improvments are. Also, you are wasting your breath trying to explain things to them because their mind is made up. Let them make fools of themselves.

Prove me other wise dude,do you play Madden?Do you even play ESPN NFL?

I never see you in football discussions,be it real life or games other than to come in and call Madden a roster update.

Like I said though, prove me other wise, give me some solid reasons why this isn't a great update to the franchise or whatever the hell your problem is with the game.

Ah,I found your gem of a post!

It's obvioius. EA has an "Uber" version of madden that all they do is add 2-3 new features each year and slap a 20XX on it to sell more. This is sad.

Seriously, you're not even worth the time of day.

True...especially the ones who do nothing but troll every thread they go into.

I play my sports games offline too. I don't skip past much so yea, I want it to be better. EA Bots don't care if Madden looks like John Elway's Quarterback as long as the fat man is on the cover. :lol

Also known as the Kordell Stewart/Neil O' Donnel syndrome :lol

As someone who desperately wanted to see the Cowboys upset, I'll never forgive Neil O'Donnell for throwing away that Super Bowl. The only plus to come out of that was seeing the Raiders waste some $12 million on him....

My thing is, and this is for the Madden fans, why doesn't the lack of cutting edge graphics, year after year, bug you? They (EA) obviously have enough $$ and people to at least incorporate some of the Xbox-specific stuff that the 2K5 series did, but they never do. Is this due to PS2 being the "lead" platform? Again, this is assuming that as loyal fans, you guys pretty much already know the gameplay will be there, so doesn't the presentation/visuals seem even more lacking by comparison?

If only it looked that good in motion......

You should try it, it looks absolutely beautiful in motion.

But that's the Xbox version, with the bump mapping and such. Which is why I suspect these Madden shots are the PS2 version since it really looks a generation behind in the technical department.

It is because the PS2 version is the lead platform. And we have bitched about this every year when a new Madden is out! :lol

This year, it all changes though with Xbox 360 being the lead platform for next gen! :D I'm not even too pumped for the Xbox version right now. It is all about next gen Madden that I'll be playing in November and the PSP version I can play on the go!

I bet the PSP version doesn't have a franchise mode.

I do have one question about passing though. If vision is mapped to the right stick what happens to playmaker control in passes?

1. No one plays from the view of ESPN NFL 2k5 posted above. play from a gameplay perspective and the game doesn't look far superior. The character models in VC's sports games have always been superior, but the animations are jittery and look odd (stick up the ass style). Madden has "short and stubby" players, but in motion the game is gorgeous.

2. 2kx = style, madden = substance. madden made some decent strides in the presentation department in franchise mode this past year. they added the radio show, newspaper clippings and an ok layout. it's nowhere near as nice as the pregame stuff in ESPN NFL 2k5 or the way the players pic/info pops up. but i'm not very concerned about that

3. with PS2 being the lead platform, it has been a problem all generation. we all know xbox and gamecube can do better than this. but what can you do? the game still looks above average, and it looks great in motion. compare madden 2001 on ps2 to NFL 2k1 on dreamcast. madden 2001 was graphically revolutionary. critics and fans alike were awed. prepare to be awed again when 2006 comes to xbox 360

p.s. at least i hope :D

Very well put.......(go Niners!!!!!)

And anyone who really knows football could tell you that the difference in the way Madden 2005 played compared to 2004 was a bigger jump than the 2K series has ever seen. 2005 changed the way you played Madden.

You really think they are gonna draft smith? I thought Rodgers was a lock.....Damn draft day can't come soon enough....

Ya know, if they were banning trolls, you would be on that list too, right? :|

There's some people who like 2k games and some who like Madden. Neither have worse tastes in football games than the other. People could on for days arguing points for their games, but seriously, it's not getting anybody anywhere, because nobody's stance is going to change. Can't we all just agree to disagree and leave it at that?

Naw, you can "like" ESPN over Madden for any number of very valid reasons, but realistic representation of football is not one of them.

problem is that anti-EA and anti-madden people are showing up in threads that are clearly created to discuss the upcoming games and to debate intelligently on what can be improved, or what should/shouldn't change from the past year. saying "OOOOOOOH BOY GOT SPUNK IN MY MUG GUESS THAT MEANS ITS ANOTHER EA FOOTBALL ROSTER UPDATE!" bullshit isn't debating intelligently, and that is really the only argument people have on gaming-age. i can't recall someone on GA who honestly has a background of playing madden and brings up legimate points as to why it is "only a roster update". that is trolling. but whatever

This whole concept of "lead platform" is absolute BS that EA has you thinking is acceptable. WHy? I don't know...

VC has been able to get games on all 3 consoles, looking great on all 3.

People wonder why I say, in other posts, that the lack of competition will mean that next gen football games will be subpar...this is exactly the reason, we are seeing it NOW.

Dude....there's no gamecube version. Unless you're talking about Dreamcast.

uh, ESPN NFL looked like shit on PS2 compared to xbox. Madden Xbox is a big step up from the PS2 version, not as big of a step as ESPN ps2 vs. xbox ps2 but a couple months back i played in a madden 2005 tourney for ps2. i hadn't played the ps2 version much at all, and i was shocked at how badly it ran compared to the xbox version. the xbox version is smooth and crisp. no stuttering. the ps2 version looked jaggy, ran only so-so and stuttered after every play

the reason i say lead platform is the game was basically designed on ps2. so while the xbox version shows definite improvements over ps2 (if you debate this then i know you are full of shit regarding having even played them), it SHOULD be better and would be if they built it from the ground up.

That new franchise stuff was a nice attempt by EA, but it was as buggy as all get out and oversimplistic. Hope they clean up all the bugs this year, because if they do it right it'll be really cool.

I've asked about this 3 times and not received an answer. Are you saying that there is in fact a team working specifically on the XBOX 360 version of Madden 06 or will this start in Madden 07? Also, I have hope for a franchise on the PSP because football season is much shorter than baseball (which won't have the franchise) so they may be able to pack more stuff in.

Madden 2006 will be a Xbox 360 launch title, and it's not just a port from Xbox/PS2.

Yea,because I'm always going into threads and saying bullshit to stuff I don't care about,STFU.

That ESPN pic posted is funny, look at how fuckin stupid the Cardinal trying to tackle LT looks, look at the guys in the background running with a stick up their ass and the way their hands look broke...

So you honest to God watch every single cut scene and pregame bullshit in offline games?I grow tired of seeing the same warmups and hearing the same cookie cutter comments about each team every game,so yea Im skipping it quickly. The Sportscent weekly wrapup was cool, but honeslty I didn't give a fuck after about the 2nd week when I realized how unfun the actual gameplay was,but who cares,we can watch replays of the game we just played!!

Holy shit! For real? If so, I will be in fucking HEAVEN! I am so ready to move on to next gen sports games (sports games being my favorite genre by far). I cannot wait to see this baby. This game will be the #1 reason to buy an Xbox at launch. And this is going to sell some serious ass Xbox 360's here in the States. A new Madden at launch would be an absolutely HUGE deal for MSFT to get! Sony has to be pissed though heh. They have always had the new next gen Madden first.

Hot damn, I am really excited for e3 to see this now!

Then we're just going to have to cordially agree to disagree, for I will argue unequivocally that the game looks easily as good and better in motion. Obviously, that is a replay angle (like most of the madden shots just posted on page 1) and, even then, 2k5 STILL looks superior to what we've seen of madden 2006, IMO. Is Madden 2006 gonna be worth the 49 . . I'm sorry, $59 EA will likely charge? I'll wait until august to find out.

Well yeah ok, Im no troll believe me I bought the game the day it came out deciding I wouldn't be buying madden for 49.99 when I could get it for 19.99. I tried to like it, ( it has the Niners 94 season uni's for christ sake) It has great presentration, but it stutters (is it the frame rate that causes that?) feels very jittery compared to the silky smothness of Madden and I played even on damned rookie and my wide outs still drop the damn ball. The running game is a joke (especially when you charge your boost thing) and the game damn near looks like stop motion on replays......Yes madden has flaws ( I finally broke down and bought it when it dropped to 29.99) but in the end I played through three seasons of Madden and barely half the season of Espn 2k5. Yes 2k5 looks great on my Hdtv( image quality ) but the animations or something (im not tech expert) make it look horrible.....especially compared to Madden.

Bah! This thread turned to shit so fast.

Btw- the 2k games look good, but the animations are horrible. Everyone runs like they have a stick up their ass.

I love Madden and I picked up both games last year. Madden felt very stale imho. ESPN felt like a fresh breath of air to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I feel that:
1. Overall Madden was the better game.
2. ESPN was 1-2 years away from being Maddens equal or surpassing it.
3. ESPN looked better except for the running motions, they had poles in their butts.
4. ESPN had a superior running game. Im sorry, any game can be taken advantage of so that video means nothing. In ESPN the blockers actually block, you can hit holes and really get some nice runs in. It can be a tad too easy but give the guys a break they may have fixed the problem later on.
5. ESPN had a lot of great feature. I enjoyed adding my own stadium music. The crib thing got old. I definately enjoyed the franchise mode though Maddens is a tad bit better. It'd only be a matter of time till ESPN caught up.

That being said, I'm definately keeping ESPN2K5 as it was my favorite football game last year. Im disgusted at EA for taking away my choice. I will no longer purchase Madden on launch day, I'll wait for reveiws because I refuse to pay for a simple roster upgrade.

Hopefully with my PSP I can purchase Madden 06 and someone will hack it and I can just get roster upgrades for the life of my psp.

I am not into games as much as I used to be and I am kind of tired of most football games in general, so for me to be playing Winning Eleven 2 months after the fact.

Fans of sports games really need to give this game a shot. I love Madden, but honestly it isn't in the same league as Winning Eleven's gameplay.

I am really interested in seeing what EA does with the next generation of Madden though. Has it been confirmed that they are making a all new Madden for Xbox 360 or are they just going to do a graphical update to the PS2 version? And what feature are exclusive to Xbox 360?

P.S. I don't get the appeal of NFL2k fans. I loved the series on the Dreamcast, but in my opinion Madden just surpassed it the instant it was released on PS2 and never looked back. In my opinion, VC has actually gone backwards. I think their NBA series has actually gotten worse since 2002, I mean, it is almost as bad as Live is these days...

Your opinions in your post pretty much match up exactly with mine, however I'm not going to hold EA responsible necessarily for them taking away the choice. It's not like any other company wouldn't have done the same thing in that situation. I don't like this new bland era of non-competition, but I'm not going to blame the game companies per se.

Perhaps this is more about market realities and leagues getting greedy, wanting the big exclusivity contract payoffs more than the royalties from a diverse range of products. The problem is that this does not necessarily encourage better product, but apparently the leagues aren't all that concerned with the product as much as the cash.

Is anyone else really disappointed with this mere roster update from EA?

Going into the new Madden I was hoping they'd improve upon the important things people look for in a sports game - graphics, presentation and bugs.

So far I'm yet to see any screenshots that show me the new normal mapped players that look fantastic from two feet away on a replay angle. Where is virtual Pat Summerall asleep in his chair during the previews for each game? And though there is still hope between now and August, I'm yet to hear of any new bugs that make the game "fun". You know, like being penalised for clipping on a 20 yard run and having that count as a 20 yard loss. Or during the first quarter of a scoreless game, where your opposition runs no-huddle after an incomplete pass.

I predict disappointment for Madden gamers this year. All you'll get are, heh, gameplay improvements *rolleyes*. Who needs gameplay if you've got awesome graphics d00ds?

Gameplay wise nothing on earth comes close to Winning Eleven. Fifa is total garbage gameplay wise, it seems like half of the movements of the game are totally scripted. In Winning Eleven you never play the same game twice and you are literally in total control of the game. Honestly, I never really minded that Madden was totally scripted too gameplay wise, but after Winning Eleven I want all of my sports games to be of this quality now. Hear me EA?

I will admit that FIFA has much better presentation than WE. Graphically it is on another level IMO and if you need all the right teams and players than you have to download patches for WE to compete with FIFA. Still, I prefer gameplay over everything else and nothing I have played this generation compares to the gameplay of WE.
