Ninja Gaiden 4 IGN hands-on preview

Best path forward is to find out who is in charge of combat and what was their previous works.

Then we can either panic or breathe easy.
It's the Wo Long director from Team Ninja + Yuji Nakao (no idea who this is) from PG.

Based on everything I've seen, it's a day one purchase for me regardless. I hope it's good overall.

I feel like he and i were the only ones who liked Wanted Dead.

He gets it for sure.

I don't see this game ever achieving itagaki ran games, but it can absolutely be as fun as a revengance, which is what it needs for me to praise it.

That's why I like Mark. I think he prefers the Itagaki Ninja Gaiden games more, but he doesn't take a hard stance against the Sigma titles and points out where they excel and that they are still better than 99% of other character action games out there.

If this ends up being shit I will be heartbroken.

I've wanted this for so long haha.

Looks incredible.

Saw grapple hook mid fight and use of environments.

Already looking like a step up.

Well after watching the footage. Did you not see how small the character is compared to the enviroment? It looks so stupid, like he's a mini ninja in a big world, shrunken down somehow. All the assets are huge.
It happened when a dude was shooting a gun. To show you his location. At least in what I saw.

I've been ignoring everything about this game because I plan to get it but man you're right he looks tiny. Very weird choice honestly.

Well just in general I see huge open enviroments, lots of big shipping containers (boring lvl design really), a huge cable on the ground (?) , A huge ladder, the human enemies in white armors also look a bit bigger than the ninja picking them up for a izuna drop etc.. I dunno I just think he looks out of place in the enviroment, and that yes he looks small.

It might be good. But the new hero doesn't excite me. Just let me play as Ryu. I don't care about anyone else.

Just watched some.

Why is the character so small compared to the enviroment? It looks like he's a fucking mini man or something. or a miniature??

Look at the stuff on the walls. The computerized telephone or whatever it is. Look how big it is compared to the character!?!?!

Wtf is going onnnnnnnnnnn

Why is he Tiny Ninja??? Why are all the assets so HUGE in comparison?

Not to mention that lame ass 1 hand forward, one hand behind me running animation

Jesus christ another failure from Platinum, what a surprise.
You seeing some red flags about this one?

I would certainly never even say such a weird thing.

I just say what I see. I havent seen any flags lately. So I aint talking about flags

I don't hide my criticism behind veiled 'flags'

The character looks too small.

Was a joke, but you are seeing stuff you don't like in a preview. Where you not up in arms about this from me and others in the Minds Eye threads?

Because I'm not gonna call the game a fake game, a 2/10 turdbag because I see something I dont like

Ofcourse I was being hyperbolic in my previous posts about NG4 being a failure by Platinum, the combat part I have faith in.

But I am seeing some things art wise I dislike. Which was also the case in previous videos.

Hey I'm just happy as a pig in shit that we're getting more NG after all these years.

In no way did I think we'd get something as good as NG 1 or 2, so it looking as good as it does is a miracle as far as I'm concerned.

Day one purchase for me. NG2 "Black" (RIP OG code), Ragebound, Nioh 3, and this!? Yeah, I'm thinking we're back.

I just wanna cut shit up with swords, man.

did they ever remake that one ninja gaiden game on the gamegear? with the multi-colored ninjas be nice to finally beat that one in some form from my childhood

The sizes are fine, he's quite a bit away from the camera and he's in a deep crouch, move him closer and standing straight up and the sizes match:

He's still hunched over here doing a signature ninja run™, standing up straight he would fit right under the phone's little privacy cover.
You're getting fooled by camera focal length/perspective and the distance the camera is from the character.

That being said the areas themselves are probably oversized a bit to fit the zoomed out camera better.

Yuji Nakao produced Bayonetta 3 and directed Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online:

Looks pretty bad as an action game, parry/riposte mechanic is broken and can't hit enemies, probably shouldn't ship something like that.

Thank you for the video, EvilLord. (Typo and I caught it but it's funny to me so I am keeping it this post!) I am about to watch it now.

Old school action games are my favorite genre. I am not super good at them, but I try my best to beat them. I am loving this renaissance of traditional action games and the video games that I am most excited for are:

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Lost Soul Aside
Ninja Gaiden 4 (wish it was just Ryu but whatever, I cannot change that)
Tides of Annihilation
Phantom Blade Zero (my most anticipated out of all of them)

Yep, give me my Easy Automatic mode and I'll be a happy camper.

There's already a plethora of souls-clones trying to outdo one another over difficulty.
Exactly, there are enough of these pretentious difficult games out there. At this point these devs trying to challenge eachother who is best at cumming the longest and farthest.

I'm getting too old for this shit. I liked the challenge a decade ago, but now I just want to game for fun without the urge to curse and namecalling the entire dev team for forcing me to overcome specific segments on a predetermined difficulty I couldn't change to begin with.

That's why fuck fromsoft for sticking to this bs, just because they believe it makes them special. Fuck them as many times as I died in all their games combined.

If this is like older Ninja Gaiden games, its not like From Soft titles.

Once you get the hang of it, you wont die at all. Except for a few times with bosses.

They always felt challenging, as in give it your everything. But in return, you wont have to retry game too much, if at all.

Ryan's IGN-ness aside...

Combat looks fun! Old school action at its finest.
Praise Yuki Najao for fast action games. Bloodborne is one of my favorite games ever, and I like Soulslikes on a case by base basis, but Souls being the only representation of action in the modern genre is unnecessary. Both types of action game can exist and satisfy everyone.
Love the gore.
I'll deal with Yakumo for now. I hope they make him interesting and compelling.
IZUNA DROP EVERYTHING.

Camera stuff. I like the zoomed out view. I hated the wonky and close camera in NG 1-3.
That said, it seems a tad too far most times. They could creep in a little closer.
As for what MMaRsu MMaRsu has observed and a lot of people have given him crap for, Yakumo is indeed smaller in proportion to objects in the environment. In this first level, it seems the world and enemies are in proportion. I wonder if this is a simple aesthetic design flaw (but I doubt they wouldn't have noticed this???), or there is a story reason behind it and Yakumo will be proportioned in following levels. Or maybe his character design is extremely short? Just supposing out loud to account for what my eyes see.

Overall I am so in on this day one as long time Ninja Gaiden fan!

I know, I just bring fromsoft up, because I spend and wasted too much time with their slop of games. Looking back at it, just gets me mad. I will never ever buy another fromshit game in my life, if they don't update their ugly engine and let people choose how they want to play these stupid games.
I love Bloodborne, but not even that can change my mind if they stick to this pretentious bs. Fuck them & most importantly fuck elden ring.

I am shocked. While the location and aesthetic is off at least the image quality is clean and camera isn't an issue unlike NG3RE. It even has dodges, Izuna Drops, Flying Swallows, and Ultimates coming out effortlessly between combos. I am curious about what kind of projectiles are available but the melee looks phenomenal. The added stealth kill and grappling hook mechanics look fun. First good showing I have seen from this game. I want a preview of what direction it takes with respect to Ryu but otherwise...

P.S. Not a fan of collectible mini-demons though.

It looks very good, but i just hope that it's difficult. Everything i saw about the game seemed too forgiving, and that's not how i see NG.
I doubt the hardest difficulty will be easy. Team Ninja even with Nioh still makes hard games, and that shouldn't change for this entry.

People complaining about how far the camera is but it's probably the reason the previewer had zero camera complaints lol. This looks awesome. Ragebound is also really great! I don't get the hate for the new character in this or Ragebound. As long as it plays the same, it's gravy.

My worry is that it's not unlocked from the beginning. I am not someone who enjoys replaying games, and don't mind suffering my first playthrough on the hardest difficulty (kinda what i want, actually). I don't want the hardest difficulty to be locked, forcing you to beat the game on Hard, and Hard in 2025 is most likely easier than Normal in the original NG. This is what worries me.

Looks very good and seems to be fun to control, but I do see some things I like less.

Its setting looks bland, even moreso than the opening levels of the first 2 games. I also see QTE to grab hidden items and (possible) stealth sequences. You know, the things everyone hated about NG3.

Its Platinum so I do expect non-interesting level design.

But all that aside, I want this day one. Its good to have something like this between the Nioh and Souls slop.

The previewer is IGN's turd Ryan McCaffrey though. Can't take anything he says seriously.

As for the game well it's a new studio, a new take on the series, it'll feel different.
It looks that it can get really really fast paced as soon as you learn the different mechanics.
This level could have been a Ghostrunner level, i hope the game has more interesting levels than this one.

He's an OG and did a great preview. I know people hate him here cause he likes Xbox tho, so I understand lol

He became famous after this:

I scrolled through critic reviews and I saw a lot of similar scores. Even Gamespot gave it a 6 which is the same score, pretty much. It's just one dudes opinion. I didn't like it either, but I only tried a demo or maybe it was a rental, I remember playing but not more than a couple of hours.

Thank you Itagaki for making something that turned out to be one of my all time favourites. This game is going to be an absolute banger!

Itagaki will be proud of this one when it comes out.

The IGN preview addressed any concerns I had completely. Looks awesome. The camera is obviously pulled back a tiny bit because you're using long range blood attacks and a grappling hook now. It's to give you a better view of the battlefield instead of sticking the camera up to someone's mid back. Also the preview confirms that the game is faster than previous NG games and that's the only way you're going to be able to see anything at high speed. Only concern I had was graphics, and in this footage it looks pretty sharp so there's nothing else to worry about. I didn't know it was Unreal 5, so that's great. I'm glad it's a new character. 2 other new characters in Ragebound also. The story is moving on.
