IGN:New Scalebound Details. Klobb: "Has potential to be Game of all Time"

So there will probably be a strong online component. Let's hope there's a big single player campaign too and it's not just multiplayer mainly like Anarchy Reigns. That would suck.

Reactions are sort of amusing when, as a Wii U owner on this board, all I hear up and down is how ungodly incredible Platinum is and how they should make everything.

In this thread I learned that Platinum made shitty games and are overrated around here, Scalebound is the next Titanfall and MS will kill Platinum.

It seems that some people have a problem accepting that Xbone will get an exclusive big budget AAA release from an amazing Japanese studio and one of the most talented directors in the industry right now.

A long as it's not another fucking open world game. I'm in. All there seems to be lately and 80% of the game becomes collectathon padding, can't see the platinum game style working too well in an open world game. Platinum are my fav devs. Even thought bayonetta 1 on ps3 was amazing and perfectly playable bar the clock tower Intro.

Only game that I felt was just ok was anarchy reigns.
Korra was shit though.

Edge?

It's a Kamiya game, of course it's going to be one of the best games of all time. That's a given.
It's a Platinum game by Kamiya. Not like there wasn't a chance it would be the GOAT regardless.
Kamiya is directing. I thought this was already known?
Directed by Kamiya. Completely legitimate statement.
Dude makes nothing but Hall of Famers.

That is why they went to MS to pitch the game (and yes it was them going to MS, not the other way around) which he was really delighted to have happen, because (he said) it has been a lifelong dream of his to work with Platinum.
10 years is a life time, huh? :P

If the XB1 is 250 when this come out, it will be mine.
Imaginary PC version for me.

EDIT: Anarchy Reigns is a great game. I want another one with better designed multiplayer.
I have no problem with a PC port, at least.

Platinum are easily one of the most talented studios in the world and it was good to see Edge award them with the studio of the year award in their GotY issue.

I really don't get the mindset of people that seem happy their games aren't selling in big numbers. Yes, in a perfect world we'd have Platinum games selling millions of copies and bloated and shallow games like Unity and Inquisition selling very little at all, but we don't live in such a world unfortunately.

But it's a good thing a studio like Platinum exists and that publishers are using them to give their portfolio a big quality injection.

There isn't a single Platinum game that would be remotely close to be named as the greatest game of all time. Maybe Clover studios for Okami.

Platinum games are guaranteed to have amazing battle systems (among the best in the industry and consistently as well).....though everything else is either mediocre or sometimes even worse.

They have amazing gameplay, yeah.

Which is basically why I play games. If you love character action games - it's probably my favourite genre in gaming - they are a godsend.

It's a bit like Nintendo. You don't play Mario for the story, but damn if the bugger doesn't star in awesome videogames.

I'm trying to figure out something from that "what Platinum does best/what MS does best" quote.
Online action game? Hopefully not arena-like.

I don't see what the fuss is, sure it has the potential to be the GOAT.. I mean, doesn't every game?

Sure it's silly for him to say that because he's building hype the game will never live up to, but he's not exactly wrong.

Right but there are games that have amazing gameplay as well as fleshing out the other aspects. Its weird. I love the battle systems in character action games but I usually don't like the games from that genre. Its probably why I adored Dragons Dogma since it took inspiration form such a battle system and fused it with an open world rpg.

It's going to be very good but being a Kamiya game it's gonna sell poorly.
Microsoft better spend a tons into marketing for this one.

Don't fall for it.

Bayo 2 was perfect in all aspects. Not sure what you mean.

Well, there isn't anyone making games like Platinum, so please let us character action fans have that one studio that does. I don't want character action mixed with other genres, it's a genre in itself. I don't have the time for RPG's, which are so very often bloated as fuck. Give me lean and mean action games with great gameplay, which is exactly what Platinum provides.

Just for curiosity, how many platinum games have you played? And beaten?

And how many kamiya directed games have you played?

This is really exciting. With MS financial backing and marketing support the West by in large will finally get to see how crazy and awesome Kamiya's games are. Hopefully it turns into a franchise for him because I don't believe he ever visited an IP twice to direct it.

16 player dragon based aerial warfare would be pretty sweet. Spiritual successor to Crimson Skies...

Whatever Lobb, just bring the high budget, Kamiya Will do the rest :P

Joking aside, this is the first* time a big company like Ms gets a P* exclusive, let's hope they'll push Scalebound marketing well.

*I Know the first one was Nintendo, but we know their commercial situation.

Can't wait to see when this sells like other PG titles nad MS acts like it never existed.

What on earth is this, how do you know this? Explain....it will sell poorly (like other PG titles) and you cant wait for MS response? What do you know about MS resources, marketing and general roll out of this game.

Explain why you cant wait for it to be ignored...

It's one of those things, it has potential to be the game of all time. Just like Bayonetta 2 was critically acclaimed and loved by all 55 people that bought it.

Meh I will never understand GAFs love for Platinum Games. I only played 2 games from them and they were shitty as hell. Bayonetta and Vanquish on PS3. Never again.

Same, I've played Bayonetta (360 version), Metal Gear Rising and MadWorld and thought they were all pretty shoddy games in their own different ways. Based on that trifecta of horribleness, I know not to waste my time with another Platinum game ever again.

And Scalebound will flop like a mofo. The writing's already on the wall.

Ehhh Bayo 2 was released on a pretty dead platform though. Surely Scalebound will perform vastly better?

I think it might be one of Platinum's first truly big sellers with all of MS's marketing muscle. I wonder if the XBO audience will take to it at the same time however.

From what we've seen so far, the art direction seems less bizarre than Bayonetta and more in line with what western gamers exepct in an action game. Plus, online multiplayer and dragons. I'd say it has good sales potential (not great). Kinda like Sunset Overdrive?

I love how Platinum games are often discarded because "only 55 people bought them".

The question is why should we (an enthusiast forum) care about the potential sales of Scalebound? the game is being made and we'll be able to play another title by a team that made some amazing games so why should we of all the people care about the sales? I guess it's the only way to shit on it.

Platinum makes games that would feel right at home in the ps2 era. They're unapologetically focused on creating wild, crazy and thrilling gameplay experiences that thrived in that era, and with that comes the illusion of shoddy quality because there is so much going on and feel "dated". You either get Platinum games and love them or you don't and go back to pristine cinematic games.

They marketed Sunset Overdrive out the asshole and it was still a flop (Forza Horizon 2 didn't do so well either it seems), so I don't think pure brute force marketing hype alone is going to push Scalebound to be anymore successful than other Platinum games.

You either get Platinum games and love them or you don't and go back to pristine cinematic games.

The funny part here is that Platinum games are often pretty "cinematic" in nature.

Might buy an X1 for this game or at least borrow one from a friend. Every single platinum game has been amazing and expect the same from scalebound

I have enormous hopes for this game and yet I still chuckled derisively when I read that quote.

But I'm glad that he's obviously kidding yet still very excited about the potential.

I wonder if we can still call ourselves that. For an enthusiast forum, there is a distinct lack of enthusiasm whenever a game is discussed, or it is easily counter-balanced by cynicism.
I suggest we change the Neogaf motto "Believe" to "Meh". :P
