Wipeout Pure is easily one of the finest launch titles available for PSP. The package comes complete with beautiful visuals, outstandingly polish gameplay, a thumping score, Wi-Fi play, and the promise of additional downloadable content in the future. New features such as Zone mode should appeal to even the most rabid fans of the series. While a few framerate issues keep its presentation from being completely flawless, there's no doubt that Pure will stun even the most jaded onlookers. It can be rather difficult at times, so be wary. But players who give themselves to Wipeout Pure will get plenty back in return. The race is on, and it couldn't be much more lovely.

9.0 Presentation
Wonderful menus, beautiful box art, and unlockable image galleries help shape a beautiful package. If only the game auto-loaded player profiles and had a better online lobby, it would be perfect.
9.5 Graphics
From it's wonderful course design and trackside detail, to its stylish ships and weapon effects, this game is beautiful. Minor framerate issues arise occasionally keeping it from perfection.
9.5 Sound
You won't find better licensed electronic soundtrack out there, and effects are crisp, bassy, and wonderful. The PSP brings a new high to handheld gaming.
9.0 Gameplay
Pure is one of the finest playing games in the series. There are plenty of modes to choose from. Tournament play could be more forgiving, and the difficulty can be high, but it's fulfilling.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Wi-Fi multiplayer is wonderful, aside from lobbying issues and there's plenty of single-player content to enjoy. Downloadable content is promising, indeed.
9.3

:lol

Studio Liverpool was free to build upon those old concepts to create what is very likely the most polished futuristic racer to ever hit the market.

The videogame market or the handheld market? To say it's more polished than F-Zero is some kind of praise!

Obviously he is referring to the videogame market. How many futuristic racers are available on handhelds? F-Zero for GBA? :P

Oh, you are fucking shitting me.

Well, still waiting on Metal Gear Ac!d and Mercury to dub this "best launch ever."

so i guess i was correct in pre-buying this with no real confirmation about its quality.

PSP seems to be off to a great start. Best handheld launch ever!

hey gamestop, fuck you.

me: "Hi do you have Wipeout Pure in?"
tard: "uhh what's that?"
me: ".... psp game"
tard: "uhhh we got a box in i dunno what's inside we'll check a few hours later..."

just finished reading the review.
fucking awesome!

Zone mode sounds really crazy.

For those who have seen both Wipeout and RR though...which one is more impressive graphically? I'm getting Wipeout for sure but I'm undecided on RR.

The King of futuristic racing is BACK.
Fzero, Step down. :lol

Heh, I don't think so.

You can't play WO Pure on a big screen in progressive scan and with a force feedback stering wheel, which I plan to do later on this year :)

My reaction to the PSP lineup playable at GDC:

THUG 2: It's Tony Hawk. It was fun on the dreamcast, its fun now, but I've already played 6 versions.
Lumines: Let me touch you.. oh I can't, the units locked up... *holds down power for 10 seconds or so, reboots, loads game* okay, i'm touching you but the show floor is noisey and I can't hear you so you lack point, but I still love you and I imported you already anyway.
Spiderman 2: No, just no, Look, ape escape monkies in an eyetoy, i'm going to go play that
Atv offroad: Meh
Twisted Metal: Meh
Untold Legends: *pushes nub around* hey, Baulders gate, mindlessly hitting the attack button is fun, we shall talk at the 20 dollar price point.

Wipeout Pure: *sound of me humping the display unit*

Seriously, I went back 3 days in a row to play it. Its fun, its tightly presented, its fast (yes, it has slowdown.. but it doesn't wreck the game unless you're some total graphics whore who's inner child is DEAD) I spent some time talking to one of the designers on it and he seemed like a really cool guy, found out some downloadable content stuff that all sounds ace. So really, if you're getting a PSP and you don't hate God and you don't hate racing. Then go for it.

However, lately i've been wondering if its worth 300 bucks to play Wipeout Pure because I can just wait a few months, sell my launch PSP on ebay for a retarded amount of money and buy it all back a few weeks later. Either way.. Wipeout Pure will be mine.

replace gamestop with EB and that sums up my call
