Isn't there a DM mode besides the standard Turf Mode?
Not one that's been announced, no.
Isn't there a DM mode besides the standard Turf Mode?
Good for you. The number of people who still want chat after playing the demo seems to be in short supply compared to the number who are simply complaining about the lack of chat on principle, and being openly disparaging of the game in its own right, some also having no affiliation with Wii U whatsoever. My point is that these people should at least play the game first before making comparisons to typical team shooters.
You make a sweeping statement about people criticising the game's lack of voice chat not having actually played it, what do you expect. I'm one of the people who played it yesterday but as you can see from my post history, not at all happy with the lack of voice chat.
Keep that kind of nonsense out of the thread. It doesn't create meaningful discussion and reeks of laziness.
Having played the Stress Test yesterday, anyone who says this game doesn't need voice chat is drunk. It absolutely does. I played through 5 or 6 matches where my team or the opposite team spent more time protecting one specific area opposed to branching out and taking the rest of the map which consisted of a dramatically larger surface area because they didn't understand what they were doing. Telling people where to go and what you're doing, basic communication, basic strategy, goes a long way.
I mean, I'll say this much, Nintendo restricting ranked online until you hit level 10 was smart because there are going to be a TON of people getting absolutely smoked by people who can coordinate themselves with their teammates to the point where the matchmaking is going to be split between people who get it and people who don't.
Wow, you're a nut!
I played some games at my parent's friend's house with his kid. Thought him a little stuff and gave him some advice and we're chill. In what way is that creepy?it's creepy on all levels. A grown man yucking it up with kids on a game...yikes.
The thing you're missing is that voice chat isn't just for strategy. A lot of people use voice chat just because it's social time in which they want to talk with friends. 99% of the time I'm in voice chat in an online video game, I'm not talking about what to do in the video game, I'm just bullshitting with my friends.
I guess some of you never played games with voice chat?
it's creepy on all levels. A grown man yucking it up with kids on a game...yikes.
Who chats on a console anymore? Serious question. I never do with randoms, and I don't play with friends a ton and even when I do we don't really chat.
This too.
it's creepy on all levels. A grown man yucking it up with kids on a game...yikes.
I've played enough online games to have a clue what might and might not have practical uses for voice chat, outside of yelling 'you idiots!' at my pals?
It's not being a prick to state the reality.
This entire problem hinges on the fact that some people want Nintendo to do their parenting for them. That it's a game marketed toward children, and therefore Nintendo is right to prevent voice chat.
And yet you have people defending it trying to say they don't know of console games that even have the option, and who have kids but cannot even google for one second the answer to the problem.
The problem therefore IS THE PARENT. Who else is at fault? You tell me.
I play video games with my nephews all the time. How the fuck is that creepy?
Wow, you're a nut!
This post deserves to be its own thread. It's seriously sickening. We need to stop letting Nintendo get away with this bullshit. Some people on this site have defended:
- The lack of online in Mario Party 10 because "Mario Party is meant to be played locally"
- The artificial supply constraints of sought after Amiibo because "they underestimated demand"
- The fact that Amiibo functionality has basically turned into on-disc DLC because "it's minor content"
- Nintendo's Youtube creator's program because they're "protecting their IP"
- Nintendo butchering the picture of quality their legacy titles to "prevent epilepsy"
- Nintendo refusing to add GBA games to the 3DS eShop because they only offer "perfect emulation"
- Nintendo's decision not to bring the New 3DS to North America because "too many options"
- Nintendo's decision not to include a charger with the New 3DS XL because "it helps reduce environmental waste"
And many more. You're surprised by the fact that they're doing the same for Splatoon, an unfinished game that doesn't have voice chat in 2015? I consider myself to be a big Nintendo fan, but the constant excuses are embarrassing.
Post of the day candidate!inb4 "you can just use skype"
and you can just fuck the right off
Quoting this post because it deserves to be quoted in nearly every "b-b-b-but we don't need <insert basic ass 2015 videogaming feature here>!" Nintendo thread. It's just sad the stuff people will defend for one company, then skewer another for. Some people on this site have defended:

You're completely off the fucking rails, holy shit. Because one person is OK with no voice chat, you completely discredit him as a parent just because he didn't use a website for an answer? God damn man.
Frangoat is still at IGN? Guess splatoon is getting a 7.9
This from the guy who just subtly implied that someone is a pedophile, or at the very least creeps on children, because he wants online voice chat in a video game. You're completely off the fucking rails, holy shit. Because one person is OK with no voice chat, you completely discredit him as a parent just because he didn't use a website for an answer? God damn man.
that's different, they're family.I play video games with my nephews all the time. How the fuck is that creepy?

I played 2/3 demo hours and I don't think the game needs voice chat, + I completely understand why Nintendo haven't put it in, and it's not "laziness".And I haven't seen a person say they have played the demo and agree with you.
Be my guest. Since you apparently did not bother to read what I said, outside of 'he said chess, lol!'. And no, I'm not going to bother explaining again.Yes because voice chat only ever amounts to yelling 'you idiots!' to your pals. Between that and your awful chess example I'm going to assume you're being facetious.
it's creepy on all levels. A grown man yucking it up with kids on a game...yikes.

Nope, that's not my argument. Please, feel free to actually read what is being said. It's not tough. Trying to paint someone as a radical when they're not just makes you seem like a hilarious reactionary.
My argument is simple. I'll break it down for you.
1. Someone who is a parent is defending this option, because they want Nintendo to do their parenting for them.
2. This person said they didn't even know that console games had the option, let alone the entire system.
3. This parent who supposedly has concern about their kids being in voice chat games cannot even do the most basic research on google - which takes about five seconds - to find if there is a way to protect their children from this problem they think they have.
Who is at fault? Is it the company who provided the option to the parent that the parent refused to even find out existed?

It would be great if they added PARTY chat for those in parties in game, but I have no problem with them not allowing general chat.
What age are we talking about here? When I was 15 I was raiding in WoW with people into their 30s. I was playing MMOs until about 25 and had people in the guild I was in that were in highschool.
It isn't that creepy. If we are talking about 10 year olds... Ok sure.
Is it the parent who buys a game with an age 7 on the cover for a Nintendo console and assumes that's enough?
I reiterate this is the 'safest' decision of all.
Why are people acting like voice chat on consoles isn't dead? You're not going to be talking to anybody.
Great way to open the Pandora's Box here. Are your opinions facts now? Because some of your points are open to debate. Some people on this site have defended:

There is no team mode that they have announced that has kill counts as a victory condition.
Every single piece of intelligence required for any and everyone to realize what needs to be done and form a strategy, is updated, in real time, instantly, on the game pad.
Sit reps are all about painting a picture for others to see. Splatoon actually does that, in real time, for everyone to see.
Literally, the only thing VC brings to the table is a voice.
At its best, this allows chatting with freinds about the weather.
At its most likely, this will result in shreaking morons who want everyone on the team to do what they want.
it's creepy on all levels. A grown man yucking it up with kids on a game...yikes.
2. This person said they didn't even know that console games had the option to mute players/turn off voice chat, let alone the entire system... even when the option is included in voice chat console multiplayer games all the time.
I already said that was my B and I didn't know there was a system wide option for it, but I don't have kids so I just went off what I'd heard from parents. And yet you have people defending it trying to say they don't know of console games that even have the option, and who have kids but cannot even google for one second the answer to the problem.

I hope DICE negate voice chat from battlefront because of all the kids that are going to buy the game.
8-10 year olds. I should have made myself clear.
Be my guest. Since you apparently did not bother to read what I said, outside of 'he said chess, lol!'. And no, I'm not going to bother explaining again.
Well, this particular parentgaf thinks that while some coop games are greatly enhanced by voice chat, Splatoon is not one of them. And giving players the option because 'it's a fucking option, can't you see?!!' is about as original as whining why online chess does not have voice chat.
"Wait wait wait, there's a dude hiding in the ink right there, let me flank him and you hit him when he gets flushed out"
Yes. All VC brings to the table is a voice. A voice that you can use to create the most basic of on the fly strategies.
I don't understand how people don't get this. This is why people think the Roller is OP. "Just jump over it dude, it's not a big problem".
Lol what?
I play games with my niece, nephew, and their dad. We like to talk at the same time we do that. Guess I'm a creep, guys. Thanks for cleaing that up, Kama_1082.
You're just being unreasonable. Unless that person is a pedo, there's ZERO problems with a grown man befriending a child. God forbid that I actually be friendly to kids.8-10 year olds. I should have made myself clear.

And now we have pedophilia accusations. Wonderful.
