I'm a non-vegetable eater... any risks down the line?

I haven't ever eaten vegetables in my life (no salads, carrots, nothing). What are the potential health hazards down the line? I do eat fruits though, such as bananas and apples and such, and drink lots of milk... but I think I should just get over the taste of veggies sometime soon.

there is probably a ridiculously long list of health implications from not eating veges whatsoever.

Does the toilet beg you not to sit on it?

As long as you're eating lean meats (it doesn't sound like you are, but I could be wrong) and you're eating your share of fruits (for the vitamins, antioxidants and fiber), you're good.

Uh, if you never tried veggies before, they taste pretty good and they don't bite.

As long as you get your daily intake of essential nutrients and vitamins it really doesn't matter what you eat.

What's wrong with vegetables, anyway?

Not all veggies are made equal, mind you. You gotta find the ones you like best... just like any other food. :p

BTW, I'm guessing your colon hates you. ;)

Veggies are the least tasty of all foods, IMO, but I've had to overcome that in recent times. You'll likely have to do the same. That said, I like a few of them and some I can tolerate, buts its hard for me to make a meal or even snack out of veggies exclusively. There's no way I could ever be a vegetarian/vegan.

I love veggies. although not as flavourful as meats, sometimes too much flavor is a bad thing. I don't understand how most people can just eat meat and not feel like it's too overwhelming. I need rice and vegetables to balance the flavor of meat.

I'm a fanatic of Japanese food. I eat chicken, rice, sushi and fruits every week (with some beef too) , and lots of milk and water. I think I'll increase the intake of fruits a bit more and start with steamed, teriyaki glazed vegetables.

Thats weird. I guess as long as you aren't excessively obese, don't have high blood pressure or cholesterol, and get regular polyp checks, then pile it on!

I love carrots (only raw and cold), lettuce, corn, potatoes, bell peppers, bamboo, water chestnuts, onions (if used right), bean sprouts, those sweet little peas they always put in fried rice/egg rolls and a couple other things. Then of course tomatoes are good for a sauce base, but otherwise I don't like them. Most other vegetables I only tolerate unless you mix them in just right (my friend is an awesome cook who knows how to do this).

I love fruit juice of all kinds but eating the fruits is another matter. I hate the texture of berries and bananas, and most other fruits are too potent in flavor for me (I've always been very sensitive to flavor). Apples and mangos are the only ones I really like eating as they are, and man do I love them. Watermelon can be good, but I'm picky about them, my old friends grampa grows the best watermelons ever. Then I can enjoy peaches, but only the ones my grandparents bring up fresh from Carolina.

For you I recommend trying sweet vegetables like corn and water chestnuts, you'd probably like them. If you can, avoid canned veggies, they suck. Get frozen or fresh if possible.

WTF ? How can you live without Potatoes, Salad, Rice... ???????? I have to say it again : WTF ?

He probably does and just doesn't realise it. I imagine he's eaten french fries at some point? Sure, it's not the healthiest way to eat vegetables, but it is veg (well...if they are "real" french fries anyway ;)). I imagine he's thinking of unprocessed vegetables.

Since I'm a Japanese food junkie, I eat rice all the time (only a bowl or so). Potatoes come in through french fries but also through meals which require them mashed or so, but I'm not big on the potatoes either.

I'm pretty much the same way (although I'll eat potatoes and beans)... but my "diet" consists primarly of meat products. I don't eat fruits and I don't like many dairy products. I'm primarly a wheat and mean/poultry eater almost exclusively. I'm also skinny because I don't eat a balanced diet... I'll probably die of a heart attack due to high blood pressure, but so far I've been healthy.. rarely ever sick or feel bad. But I just consider myself lucky, I wouldn't recommend my "diet" for anyone.

I've never been big on veggies, but I eat a ton of fruit. I always force myself to eat my veggies before I touch anything else, or they won't get touched.

If you're not going to eat vegetables, be sure and take a multivitamin that can suppliment the nutrients that you're not getting.

Centrum is the best multivitamin, IMO.

It's really worth it. I can notice a difference in my mood and energy when I take it vs. when I don't.

A lot of Japanese food has vegetables..eggplant, daikon, onions, mushrooms, etc.. And tempura style vegetables are pretty good too. Even okonomiyaki has lots of veggies. Most of the dishes my gf cooks have some kind of veggies. What are you eating only yaki niku and rice :p

Potato isn't something to bring up in a discussion about vegetables. Nutritionally, it's a mound of not-so-complex carbohydrates that rapidly turns into sugar when digested. Otherwise, it's a tuber. ;)

Oh, and I second the "what kind of Japanese are you eating?" comment.

I eat at least one veggie-free fast food meal I day which I proceed to wash down with a uber-sized caffeine and sugar soaked drink. I don't even want to know what the inside of my arteries look like. Thankfully I'm still young and have a fairly strong metabolism, though I'm starting to grow abit of a pooch so I'm thinking of switching to 'Diet' drinks and eating healthier. It likely won't happen, but hey, it's on my mind. Probably the only veggie I regularly eat is brocolli, which is odd, as it's sort of the mascot for vegetable-haters...

I eat the typical Americanzed, not really Japanese but Japanese anyway stuff - sometimes shrimp tempura, chicken teriyaki, maki sushi, beef teriyaki occasionally, sukiyaki, and the miso soup. Pretty typical overall. I'll look into the supplements too - I'll need those.

I've never been much of a vegetable eater, but I've only recently developed a taste for mushrooms and tomatoes. Shitaki mushrooms are fucking godlike when sauteed or used in asian-style soups. I really want to try portabello mushrooms because I hear when prepared in a certain style it has a taste reminiscent of steak! As for tomatoes, I've never had a problem with tomato sauces. But the texture of raw tomatoes as well as the taste never clicked with my taste buds until I recently got lazy in telling the person behind the counter to leave tomatoes out of my burger. Eventually I tolerated the taste and now I'm putting slices inside my turkey sandwich.

As for tempura, hell you can tempura some fucking palm leaves and I'll eat it. It seems everything deep fried in tempura batter tastes good.

You should investigate different salad dressings.

Some people believe that salad dressings are something you add to a salad in order to add a little flavor.

This is false.

Rather, a salad is something you add to a dressing in order to give the dressing some body. Or you can think of a vegetable as an edible utensil with which to serve yourself some dressing.

More seriously, I used to be a vegetable hater. Would only eat certain ones. However, I've learned that how a vegetable is cooked usually makes all the difference in the world. (Though you can still apply the same logic as above: a vegetable is just a carrier for the flavor of the sauce that it's cooked in.)
