I'm buying some speakers tonight: X-230, Z-540 or CA-3090?

I generally use headphones but I want some decent speakers so I don't always HAVE to use them. I just want good sound/bass; I definitely don't want or need some $200 7.1 setup or anything. I'm keeping this $40 or under.

I've narrowed it down to these three, so does anyone have any of these or opinions on them? These are all sets of speakers that seem to have generally positive reviews and are cheap. I'm wondering if I should go for the nicer 2.1 set or the cheaper 4.1. I mainly would listen to music, but I know if I had a decent 4.1 setup I would use it for gaming instead of the headphones. So, with that in mind, which of these would be the best option:

Also, on a side note, I really love the look of these and from the user reviews, they seem to be pretty decent. Is there any way I can buy a sub separately and somehow make it all work in conjuction? This set only has the one green plug.

Well all those sets are highly rated, and if the extra two speakers are gonna make that much of a difference for gaming, I'd rather go for those.

Eww...those speakers have boomy, inaccurate bass (the subs there look to cutoff too high as well), and there doesn't seem to be any highs.

Really, they all seem to just be for looks. They make it look like they are good speakers.

In that case, the Logitechs *look* the best.

If I were low on cash, I'd save up to $100, and wait for some Klipsch 2.1s to be marked down. They are every couple months.

i have the one lower then the Logitech Z-540 (the 5.1). It is awesome. The sub is a little over powered though.

How is the 5.1 lower than the 4.1? And can you elaborate more on the overpowered sub? And would you recommend I buy the Z-540?

get the logitech Z-2300 you can find them for as little as 70 bucks, there THX certified and sound great for PC speakers. 200 watts RMS.

I don't need or want that much power and I'm not spending nearly that much. I honestly do not need speakers at all, but if I can get a good set for under $40, I'll go for it. I don't need THX certification or anything.

I have a pair of those. They're pretty good although even at the lowest setting, the bass is too strong
