I'm going on a retro buying spree due to recent events. Anybody else?

This idea is kinda tempting, and that Retron 5 does look interesting. I just don't know if this is a path that I want to really go down. I mean, it's at the point now where lots of the classic SNES titles are starting to get pretty expensive in the second hand market, right? Since I'm not interested in everything under the sun and I'm not too concerned with accuracy picking up a used Wii and just nabbing stuff off of VC is probably a better option for me.

I just bought a PSP 3000 for about $30 at gamestop and I've been buying games on the cheap left and right. It's a JRPG gold mine at this point.

I also own an N64 and a super Nintendo but last time I played it was months ago. There is a shop in my town that deals in retro games that's where I got my copy of lunar 2 eternal blue.

So I'm going back and I'm buying up some of the older consoles that I never had as a kid and I'm building up sort of a collection of essential games from those consoles.

I started doing that in 2012, after I had an overdose of disappointing AAA sequels in 2011 (Gears 3, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, Modern warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Arkham City, Witcher 2). That's when I realised in which direction the industry was heading, and that 3d platformers, survival horrors, aerial shooters, jet ski, snowboard, futuristic racers, among others, are never coming back.

So I went out and bought all the consoles and games I always wanted as a kid, and keep periodically adding some widely acclaimed ones that I missed (damn you internet forums), though I'm trying to stop because the backlog is becoming ridiculous, and I never had a backlog before, when I was just a current gen gamer.

So far I have amassed: (owned Gamecube and X360 at release, and was a PC gamer in the 90s)

N64 : 13 games
Dreamcast : 6 games
PS2 : 13 games
XBOX : 14 games
PC : 19 games

still 43 that I haven't started....

I like to keep a check on myself and rationalize the whole thing, so I stick to a few rules, like always buying with the intention to play at some point, not buying games from genres I dislike even though they got amazing reviews, and also not going for stuff older than when I actively became interested in video games (1996), and since I like 3d games only and dislike 2d gameplay, I'm not really missing out anyway.

Wii prices would be the best for sure if you don't want to collect the carts. SNES RPG prices in particular are just about through the roof. VC has a lot of them for a cool $8 each.

I´ve been in that mood for the last 3-4 years or so. Don´t see me changing, I love retro stuff.

I've been in that mood since the late 16-bit era where I re-bought the NES my mom gave away a few years prior because she thought I wouldn't play it anymore now that I had Genesis/SNES.

I've bought about 60 PS2 games this year. I think I've managed to get hold of all but 3 PAL RPG releases - still missing .hack Part 3, .hack Part 4, and Baroque.

Yep. The retron 5 is the same functional equivalent as an emulator basically. You'll have exactly the same experience on a Wii, if not better.

I don't really get why people care about the retrons tbh. If you like collecting carts thats cool, but you not getting a "true" hardware experience anyway. Better off just emulating what you own...
