I'm looking to join the elite chair club

I've suffered with chronic back pain for many years and I'm finally in a place financially where I can afford to go all out on a new chair. I'm currently using a cheap £99 job from Amazon, which I hate.

I've looked at the Herman Miller Aeron, Embody and Mirra as well as the Steelcase Leap V2 which is the one I'm currently leaning towards due to the higher weight limit (I'm 6ft 3 and 300lbs). With my back problems and my size I need a proper ergonomic chair, not some gaming racer seat.

I'm just wondering if any of you own one of these high end chairs and if so, how are you liking them, were they worth the money? I'm especially interested to hear from other back pain sufferers or other big boys and gals.

I did a lot of looking around and ended up getting one of these 24/7 operator chairs. I'm 6'3" but relatively narrow and light, and I just barely fit in it width-wise. If you're even relatively big, you'd need either the width option, or the real big boy solution. Definitely the best chair I've been in, but it took a bit to get fully broken in and to get my setup right (had to get a cheap footrest to get my leg angle comfortable).

Now, all that being said, those are even more expensive than the normal expensive chair options, and they're only worth it because of being fully adjustable. If you can find a less-adjustable chair that fits you, it's exactly as good. Aerons are a good middle-ground for a lot of people, but me and a coworker got sore asses from them. One coworker swears by the mirra. I've heard a lot of good things about the leap, too.

Lastly, make sure the rest of your setup is right. Middle of your monitor should be a bit below your eyes, arms shouldn't be reaching too far, etc. It's all a balancing act, where the levers to pull are: chair height, desk height (putting risers under your desk is a pain, but sometimes necessary), monitor height, foot height, and chair adjustments.

Mentioned in the home office thread I picked up the Leap v2 and it has been fantastic so far. Noticed that during the day I would start to experience some stiffness in the lower back as well as both knees from being in one of those racer-style gaming chairs. Did take some tweaking to get to where it felt "right" and in hindsight I probably could have gone without both the optional headrest and the super adjustable arm rests. When configuring it, it reached a point where I just said screw it and started adding basically any option they had. Was initially torn between the Leap v2 and the Aeron but I think it was a btod video that compared them(?) and seemed the Leap was more my style.

I'm 6' 230 so not terribly outside of your range and also 40 so things like back pain and all carry more weight (no pun intended) than they ever used to.

It wasn't cheap but my work is seemingly going to remain WFH post-pandemic and the back/knee pain was really starting to take its toll.

I think I'm decided on the Leap V2, just under £900 so not cheap, but will be worth it for my back health I'm hoping.

Whenever someone says they have a bad back you have to look beyond the chair no one talks about posture, exercise and I’m not a doctor by everybody I talk to that has a bad back just stands.

Oh without a doubt, I need to lose weight and my posture is shit, and I've neglected my body for most of my adult life. I've seen back specialists and physiotherapists, I would need to do a ton of work to fix the underlying issues. That being said, sitting in a £99 chair is doing me no favours at all and it's something I can fix quickly.

I've had my Aeron over a decade. It was fucking expensive but worth the investment.

My issue with the Aeron is the rock hard, plastic lip around the seat, it does not feel good having it dig into your thighs constantly. I briefly owned one but had to return it because it was hurting my legs, although I did have the size B when realistically I need the C, but it was a really good deal so I took a risk.

I have 2 Mirras, and they're worth every cent. I've easily spent 12h days in the chair with work and don't feel taxed like in other seats. Tough as hell too. Get them used and in good condition via Craiggers.

Wow. That chair in the first reply for folks who weigh 800 lbs...I didn't know such things existed. I could probably get three or four of me on that 😳

To be fair it's kinda redundant, anyone who is 800lbs will be bed bound and have no use for an office chair. Source: My 600lb life.
