I want to hear Dylan's "I'm Not There." I just bought the Basement Tapes album, really love it. I don't know if I want to dish out the cash though to buy the bootleg that has everything from the sessions though.

edit: oh, so it's on the official soundtrack? When does it comes out?

There's a 2 min clip of Blanchett/Cross on youtube, I can't paste the link atm though. She does a great job of capturing that mid 60's Dylan spacey/spazziness that he had in videos I've seen of him. Brilliant.
In the clip I saw, she did a great job of portraying a female actor pretending to be a man.

So the soundtrack comes out today. I'm listening to the previews on iTunes, and while it's pretty cool, it really just makes me want to listen to Dylan.

A friend and avid Dylan enthusiast saw this film at the Toronto Film Festival.

He said it was an awful mess, ridiculous in parts, and there are far more people who portray Dylan in this picture, including a young black male.

That's been known for awhile. I think if you go in knowing what this film is about and what it's attempting (hint NOT a bio-pic) it could be enjoyable. NY Times Magazine had a great article on the film a few weeks ago.

you would almost expect this to be a mess. i love the idea of dylan as rimbaud, being interrogated with really ridiculous questions. seems like a great metaphor for his early career.

I just found out that the backup band he's playing with, The Million Dollar Bashers, includes Tom Verlaine from Television. DO YOU REALIZE WHAT THIS MEANS???? My mind is exploding with awesome. I can't believe Malkmus and Verlaine played together. That's like a dream come true.

:lol :lol :lol

i didn't know that, this awesomeness just keeps on getting more ridiculous. i guess if the movie's trash, at least we have the soundtrack. i know that was the case with velvet goldmine! (that had thom yorke doing roxy music songs and placebo doing t.rex, incredible)

I'm gonna make this the official thread:

This film was mind bogglingly awesome. Not what I expected and all the better for it.

Just saw it, and I have to say -

Pretty much.
It's unapologetically artistic and pretentious, but man, did it work for me.
I just loved this movie, it's smart, it's funny, it's a beautiful to look and it's amazing to listen.
Mind you, it's directed squarely toward people who are if not fans, at the very least familiar with the life and work of Mr. Dylan.
Others may be lost.
Hell, even I was at times.
But it was worth it.
Go watch it.
