Im picturing a Verticle shooter where you draw shapes

To launch combos and special attacks.

Something on rails like Sin and Punishment.
You would draw shapes like a half circle around your ship would launch a ring of fireballs.
I think Treasure could pull this off nicely.

Any word on Treasure doing DS development?

it would probably take a treasure game (and a pricedrop or two) to get me to buy that ridiculous console. your idea sounds silly, but i bet something is forthcoming. they've flourished on the gba, after all. i'm interested to see what they'll do.

No he is right, just that that idea is not creative enough. Developers haven't even scratched the surface of in-game-painting possibilites. I imagine a game where basically all you to is draw, and it looks like SM64 but is no platformer. Crazy stuff. That Pacman game where you draw Pacmans is a tiny step in the right direcion.

Dodging bullets and firing precise shots aparently isn't engaging enough for gigadent's massive skillz. He wants to DOODLE LAZERS at the same time -- mon dieu!

I'm picturing a game where the DS recognizes common spelling errors like "verticle" for "vertical" and then snaps its clamshell shut on the player's penis, causing massive hemorrhaging and hopeful death from blood loss.

Good lord, that's fucking hilarious.

It's gonna happen no doubt about it. Will also have a calculator. Everything a kid needs in school.

TOUCHING IS GOOD ... in school!

someone get drinky crow a ds development kit. he's clearly got a better grasp of the console's possibilities than the self-satisfied public developer types who'll toss some doodling or poking mechanic into some lame n64 game and call it a revolution.

my fantasy ds game involves dozens of imaginary knobs and levers and widgets and wheels on the bottom screen, all used to control some third rate n64 port on the top one. possibly an army men game, or a rare platformer. it takes the moronic ideas of ridge racer ds and jungle beat to a higher, finer moronic pitch.

I'm picturing a game where I have to draw a steaming pile of shit. Not just the bubbling blobness of the shit, but with the steam-lines too.

BEHOLD THE AWESOME SELF-REFLEXIVITY OF THE NINTENDO DS!!

/troll. I haven't even seen or TOUCHED a DS in person :lol

I agree. That idea wasn't meant to be the whole game. It's just an example. Playing Feel the Magic is giving me all sorts of new ideas for how proper DS games should work.

Just the basic mechanic of touching the screen to launch attacks is highly satisfying.

Wow the trolls came out fast and furious in this thread. Anyway, I think doodling with DS is a lot of fun, and would like to see it used during gameplay (and yes I think it would be good in a shooter and many other genres). "Grabbing" with the stylus is also good. Poking can be entertaining too, but it depends completely on what's being poked.

Also, I agree that's it's all gimmicky and silly, but I bought a DS expecting that type of thing (in addition to some regular games).

you have to realize these people have their responses ready to go. In accordance with Sony PSP damage control, whenever a positive DS thread pops up.

Step 1: Attack thread starter credibility by association with formerly banned member's username.
Step 2. Divert attention by focusing on any spelling errors and typos.
Step 3. Post screenshot of Ridge Racers. Reminding people how much better the graphics are.
Step 4. TOTAL DERAILMENT OF THREAD. With hopes that thread in question gets burried or people will simply "forget".

I like the idea of a rail shooter..

Anyone ever play Tempest on the Jaguar?
Man that game was intense fun. This would be awesome if it utilized the DS touch screen.
I finally got to try one out at BB the other day, and my doubts werer ested about the DS: Touch IS Good.
It would take a while to get used to though. MP:H seemed awkward at first, but then I started flowing.
Touch +1

hahaha.

That sounds pretty amazing. The DS makes me sad because I'm not going to care about it like I even cared about the Lynx. At one point in my life, I was dying to obtain a Lynx. The DS doesn't have interesting games, it has Charlie's Blast Territory sequels and Spider-Man. That's no fun.

I wonder why Nintendo hasn't announced Mario Paint DS yet, it's a sequel that'd be perfect for the DS.

I think it's an interesting idea, it's not going to be taken seriously on this board, though. I'm sure treasure can come up with some great ideas with the DS.

I've got lots of ideas for DS (I guess being a troll requires having no creativity). Really, touchscreen gaming is very different from controller based gaming so I don't expect it to compute in the heads of many console gamers. While I can think of a lot of adventure and platformer game ideas for DS, touchscreen is more in line with PC gaming (i.e. mouse-based gaming), but it can be more accurate. For example, puzzle games like Squares 2 and Loop would be a lot easier and more natural on DS. There's also first person shooters, real-time strategy, point and click. You can wirelessly chat with voice, drawing or typing in a multiplayer game (particularly internet-based games, as you can just talk to people if they're nearby), which, again is just like PC gaming. That said, I can think of touchscreen adding a lot of versatility and twists to platformers or adventure games.
