I'm thinking about getting a Vita and I have some questions.

Is the memory card required to save physical games or is it just for storing downloads?

Is there some kind of podcast app like on iOS?

Can I download mp3s directly from the Vita web browser?

I see some PS Classics listed as PSP and PS3, but not Vita on the store, are those not playable on Vita?

Are there any better deals than the Amazon bundle going on?

Does crossbuy work for all games that are on both PS3 and Vita?

Is there any chance of TLG coming out on Vita?

Memory card is required for saves.

For PS Classics refer to this thread

For crossbuy it depends on the game. Not every game supports crossbuy

TLG on Vita? Doubtful

as far as I know there is no podcast app.
I haven't a clue about mp3 files but i know you can download mp4 files
if you don't mind used systems cowboom (a best buy warehouse site) has cheap vitas
and as for the last guardian. I wouldn't be surprised if it was pushed to the ps4 and if it was you could remote play the ps4 version on the psv.

No install for physical games, although the memory card is needed for all save files. No in built memory in the original Vita at all.

Don't know, sorry. You could check the Sony Entertainment Network website.

Correct, a lot of PS1 games still aren't playable on the Vita. You'll find a list of compatible games through Google.

Are there any better deals than the Amazon bundle going on?
What country are you in?

Does crossbuy work for all games that are on both PS3 and Vita?
No. Only specific games are cross-buy, and you usually have to buy the PS3 version.

Is there any chance of TLG coming out on Vita?
Ha ha, no.

Answers above.

Yes, you can download any MP3 (including podcasts) and they save to the music app. I've used it for podcasts before.

The Vita will download any MP3 link and I use it for podcasts, but the browser can be a bit crappy. Giantbomb's webpage is slow to load while TWiT show pages seem to very rarely load, but in the latter I've stored the direct links as bookmarks and replace the numbers to download the latest podcast. If you install content manager (Mac/PC) you can transfer files either via USB or WiFi to your Vita and I usually use this method if I need a bunch of podcasts. It can sometimes be a bit slow to realize what is on the PC when using wifi (seems to be an issue on both sides, but might have gotten better with updates), but I find it very convenient and you can even stream MP3s and video files.

Probably useless info for 99% of people, but if you use a bluetooth headset (which it supports) remember that the Vita has a very deep sleep. That sleep is what gives it really good standby time, but it enters it after just being inactive and locked in less than a minute so if you pause the podcast/song with the headset you have to be really fast to start it again otherwise you'll have to reconnect the headset :P
That sleep is why it usually takes a couple of seconds for a Vita to wake up when the light is off.

Thanks, guys.

You can get a used Vita for $129.99 starting Sunday at GameStop. Comes with a free 1 year warranty.

Hmm. That sounds pretty good.

OK. Thanks for the detailed answer.

Not necessarily. There are a number of reasons a PSOne classic isn't on the Vita store, but does show up on PSP and PS3. Generally it means:

1. There's a glitch or glitches in the emulation that requires a waiver to allow it to be listed. This needs to be actively pursued by the publisher.

2. Oversight. Publisher staying on top of this can get the oversight corrected and the game listed.

3. There's a game-killing emulation glitch. This cannot be fixed by the publisher but may be directly or indirectly addressed in future Vita emulator updates.

In the case of #1 and 2, those games can be "side loaded" to Vita by downloading them to the PS3, then transferring them to the Vita. They will play fine. In the case of #3 case, you're outta luck.

Best recent Vita deal was $89 for the ATT 3G/Wifi one that comes with the 8gig memory card earlier this week. You had to stack a sale, two rebates, and cashback, but it was smoking hot, especially if you're stockpiling the sweet, sweet OLED version before the inferior LCD ones take over.

That isn't a bad deal at all. I should pick up P4G with it. Is it possible to beat that game in 7 days lol?

it's possible to beat persona 4 in 7 days, assuming that is all you are doing. To even get through the base game without a guide will likely take you over 60 hours, if you want to go after the side story and stuff you will likely be looking at over 100 hours.

given that ff5 finally became playable on the vita (a game that has had emulation errors since the ps2 lol) I have hopes that 3 will be less of an issue in the future.

I do imagine there is a 4 though, as I know I have heard of licencing issues with games before. Where they only got rights for the ps3/psp at the time and can't get the rights for the vita (or don't care enough to get the rights though that would more fall under 2)

either way I wish ps1 games were coming more often... still far to many missing that i would love to have on my vita.

I actually want to buy the Vita for Persona 4. I got P4 Arena and got interested in the story and then I started watching the anime and now I love Persona 4 and I've never actually played Persona 4.

Most people who have played a 2000 find it superior to the OLED Vita overall. In fact, my advice to the OP would be to just import a 2000 (or wait a few months for it to come out in NA/EUR), as it is much better than the OLED model.

Yeah... nope.

I think you got it backwards.

don't buy a vita if you want general computing. browsing works but it's nowhere near as good as using a tablet or phone and app selection is obviously a lot more limited. it's just nice to have in addition to the games, not something that could stand on its own. decide whether or not to buy it on the games library (make a list of games you might want, look at youtube footage, etc)

edit: and yes you can download mp3 files from the browser and play them in the music app. i did that once when I wanted to listen to a podcast when my phone was charging. still lame though compared to using a podcast app (which don't exist on vita)

Crash Bandicoot still not on Vita?

Even I can emulate my PS1 copy fine on my computer. Damn it Sony !

Amazon bundle seems pretty damn amazing already.
