And this stupid fucking clown, comes and ruins everything by cancelling it and on top of that, firing you

He needs to be kicked out from this company, effective immediately

Enough is enough

I can't wait for them to announce they found another publisher for Contraband, and no one here giving a damn or buying it lol.

You guys better get the damn deluxe edition.

This sort of thing happens in the corporate world all the time. It's not a big deal.

The lesson to be learned here is that developers/publishers shouldn't announce games until they are ready to be released. These days, development cycles are far too long, leaving room for any number of things to go wrong and lead to the cancellation of the game.

But remember that a week before firing you he comes into the office, plays your game, tells you it's the greatest thing he has ever played, goes around giving hugs and high fives to everyone as he congratulates them for their awesome work, takes another look at the game, cums, then leaves.

Then a week later you get an email "Whopsie, the game is shut down and you are all fired"

Imagine working everyday so you can make money so you can buy these games that end up leaving you disappointed and broke. Then suddenly, you care less about the random joe shmoe who got fired.

Yeah, agreed. Games are getting announced way too early.

I think 6 months maximum is perfect. All but guarantees the game will release, keeps the hype momentum going but not too long as to fatigue, and I imagine marketing spend would be reduced/concentrated where it needs to be.

I legitimately don't see the downsides yet here we are 🤷‍♂️

Phils wrong... Who knows what the hell is going on there, it's corporate hell for sure. Too much money isn't that good for this work, I mean look at what small teams or even single devs can do with small budgets, some stuff is extraordinary. They have to change their philosophy, or this is just gonna keep happening, among other shit.

If after years of work I have nothing that deserves to be shown I start making some questions to myself and wonder how long can this last

It's not the cancellation, game might have been bad.
But Its the 4 years of indecisiveness and then cancelling the game. So much money, talent and time wasted.

Papi, this thing happens often in this sphere of development, unfortunately - be it games or other commercial software. Its gut wrenching for devs to get informed something they've poured sweat and tears into is getting canned. Some take it better than others, while others sometimes leave these industries all together and just become lecturers or seek other educational employment instead.

You should be less stressed about it and don't get too overhyped about announcements.

And this stupid fucking clown, comes and ruins everything by cancelling it and on top of that, giving a big middle finger to all of us.

Imagine working on a game for 5 years and not having enough to show for it to be worth finishing.
I mean all these cancelations and firings suck, but some of these games have dragged on with seemingly nothing to show.
It'll be interesting to see if any of the third parties that had games cancelled can retool them and release something quickly or if they really had nothing.

That's kinda the one thing that gets me. Thinking about spending a few years on something that gets canned with the snap of a finger.
