Improved Switch 1 games on Switch 2

As discussed in the OT, this thread is to gather all infos about Switch 1 games that run better on Switch 2.

As the system is out now, we can see that games that have dynamic resolution scaling and or unlocked framerate maxes usually their target resolution and framerate. Games that are supposed to run at a fixed resolution and/or framerate don't go beyond that.

It is also important to note that the games reproduce docked/handheld mode for Switch 2's dock/hanheld mode - the games don't run on docked configuration in Switch 2 handheld mode, lowering the target resolution and/or framerate.

Third party titles (so far):
- No Man's Sky: Beacon update

Games that have a 10$ upgrade pack:
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Hogwarts Legacy

Games that will have an upgrade pack with additionnal content (to be released in the coming weeks/months)
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land
- Mario Party Jamboree

GTA Trilogy: basically locked at 30 fps, could use a patch

Saint Row 3rd and IV: runs at an unlocked framerate, so both hit 60 flawlessly, Outer Worlds limited at 30 (+ low quality textures)

I was impressed by what I saw in Link's Awakening and Mario 3D World, though I didn't play more than a few minutes because I'm more focused on MKW at the moment. Just a much more polished feel.

I will say, the input lag is terrible in Mario 3D World. Was it that bad running on Switch 1? I'd be curious to know how responsive Switch 1 games are via BC. Switch 2 games, fortunately, seem much snappier than I remember games being on the Switch 1. Even the home menu feels more responsive.

Bayonetta 3 locked 60fps but resolution stuck at 810p in docked mode, 600p (or around that) in hanheld mode

Batman Arkham Knight runs at a steady 30fps but resolution is at arond 500p docked

Been wanting something like this. Thanks.

Bayonetta 3 really was too ambitious for the Swich 1. that additional memory bandwidth and GPU power was desperately needed. too bad their weird dynamic res can't be fixed without a patch

The Dragon Quest Builders 2 test is a bit unfair, because he's not testing the Story mode, but the mode where you can visit user generated levels.
In singleplayer it seems to be 60 all the time now.
I was wondering because I played that game when it launched on S1 and I don't remember it looking that bad. That was almost 8 years ago though.

Astral Chain?

And some impressions from a reddit thread discussing said video.

"Game definitely runs differently on switch 2. Just booted it up, at the least the internals are making it a bit smoother and anti-aliasing better but it kinda of seems weird I think because it's not officially compatible yet."

"Playing it right now on SW2. Less frame rate drops fs, but still horrible resolution and 30fps framecap.. we need a switch 2 upgrade real quick 😭"

Played some Hyrule Warriors in Handheld mode and it's perfect now.
The game was always running in 1080P in Handheld mode. That was obviously stupid for Switch 1, but for the Switch 2 screen it's great. It also felt like the game was locked to 30 in handheld, but never actually reached it, but I'm pretty sure it's running at 60 now.

I also still think the mini-map is crap.

Bookmarked!

Thanks brother. I'll definitely come back to this thread when I get around to owning one. Probably in the fall after the launch has ended.

Does anyone know if the Switch 2 upscales games? I was playing Teatrhythm and it seems to me that now it looks really sharp and defined as opposed to the original Switch, where it looked quite fuzzy.

Persona 5 strikers seems locked in battle even when a lot is going on there is no slowdown.
Minecraft is supersmooth to play, accessing the marketplace and actually buying stuff is a lot better but sometimes the game is a bit glitchy when trying to download new packs or worlds.
Naruto 4 road to boruto also seems to hold it's locked framrate, when playing adventure there is no slowdown when traversing konoha village, i remember the slowdown being terrible in this game.
RCT3 seems to have better loadtimes but i haven't really looked further.

There is a lot i haven't checked yet, i have 650+ games on Switch so checking them will take a long time.

I'm sorry I don't have anything new to add but I wanted to restate just how changed Pokemon SV is In Switch 2. A whole different experience. If it was re reviewed now it would get 10 more points in OpenCritic easily

It won't upscale by default, but if the game has dynamic resolution it could go all the way up to 1080p in handheld mode, considering it's not a demanding game.
