Improved Switch 1 games on Switch 2

That video is 30fps
There's an option to switch to 60fps stream if you click the gear button.

Whelp, looks like the dream of a 60fps console port of Deadly Premonition is dead. Still drops to the 30's on Switch in the city areas with erratic frames.

Also oddly enough, the game speed itself slows down when the frame rate is lower and gets faster when it's higher. This kind of shit would make the game borderline unplayable IMO.

Not that I was gonna buy an NS2, but I was curious about how this turns out and it's disappointing on all fronts. The original release still remains the best way to play it.

Kingdom Come Delivrance maxes out DRS and framerate (at 30), looks way better

tbf playing this game on anything other than PC should be a sin, what a disgrace is the state of this game is on all consoles, Warhorse should patch KCD asap.

click the gear Button and you can pick 60 FPS video steam option.

oookay... that doesn't change the fact that THE GAME is running at 30fps, and very obviously so... you know that a video upload framerate isn't the same as the framerate the game is running at right?

Saw this video it looks like Xeno 3 can run 60 fps on switch 2:

I think you're confusing the refresh rate of the video and the game.

Whoever uploaded the video used a 60hz encode, but you can pretty easily see that the game is still running at 30fps. It's a 30fps game capture encoded in a 60hz video.

hey ? could you give them some time ??? They are all new to this "high def" / "high frames rate" world, they are learning how 1080p/60fps feels first.

Not necessarily. Depends on the one recording the video. I mean you could record a 30 FPS game into 60fps video but the recorder could also record the actual 60FPS gameplay from the source as youtube will also give a 30fps option on actual 60 FPS gameplay that's recorded too. And thus I said it looks like. Not 100% sure too.

well, I am 100% sure it's 30fps... so... yeah... easy enough to check btw if you're not sure, you can skip frame by frame in youtube by using your , and . keys

but also it just obviously is 30fps even without checking

Well either way the fps is much smoother on switch 2. on the original switch it run below 30fps too from time to time. So it's good even without any switch 2 improvement patch.

I'd love a system option to let Switch 1 games run in docked mode while playing handheld on Switch 2.
That would definitely fix a lot of games problems in handheld mode, and wouldn't be so taxing on the hardware.

One of the things I love about my modded Switch 1 is being able to change the CPU frequency on the fly.

I haven't played Link's Awakening on the Switch 1, but it's running very nicely on the Switch 2. Rock solid performance and pretty sharp, although with quite a lot of shimmering/artifacts when the screen is scrolling.

Does Bowser's fury still chug to death when it's Kaiju time? I never actually finished it, might try it out tomorrow.
I installed it and I remember that I put it down because I couldn't stand Bowser showing up and never going away, if I fight him then it would trigger the end battle then credits, etc.

But now he's not showing up at all, was it a bug? I think it might be and they fixed it, I wanted to collect everything but Bowser just wouldn't let me before.

Does anyone know if the Switch 2 upscales games? I was playing Teatrhythm and it seems to me that now it looks really sharp and defined as opposed to the original Switch, where it looked quite fuzzy.
Just knowing that Switch 2 improves some Switch 1 games will make 100% of Switch 1 games look worse on Switch 1 and better on Switch 2.
People with Switch 1s will wait on buying new games knowing that they'll look better on a Switch 2.

I doubt anyone here plays it, but there's a F2P FPS on Switch called Warface which, in the absence of COD, is basically the only one of its kind. The core gameplay is pretty good but it's a horribly made and maintained game, with dismal framerates, lag (even in menus), hit detection issues, regular crashes, the lot. For what its worth, the game is vastly smoother on Switch 2, the menus function as they should, the framerate feels consistent (admittedly I haven't got a particularly discerning eye for these things) and it doesn't take five seconds to click through things in the goddamn menus. It still crashes, it still has the graphics of a PS3 game, but the moment-to-moment play now basically functions like a budget FPS should. For Switch-only players who'd like an online FPS deathmatch (all other modes are empty), I can't exactly recommend it given the myriad underlying issues which no amount of horsepower will fix, but until COD rocks up it's at least a somewhat viable option now.

(It's actually on the list Nintendo released of third-party Switch games with problems transitioning to Switch 2, my experience is that the crashes have been no more or less frequent on 2 as on the original and Nintendo might have mistaken the game's existing tendency to crash with problems moving to the new console.)

Has Pokémon legends Arceus also been secretly updated for switch 2, or is it just a boost of the hardware? i decided to boot it up out of curiosity, and wow...i feel like it noticeably looks sharper, and runs nice and smooth.

They really need to remaster this game and fix the game code. I have never seen the game speed up like that on XSX. On Steam Deck also I can easily set a maximum framerate which I guess it is not an option on Switch 2 (this game needs a limiter to 30 FPS).

Deadly Premonition in BC mode on XSX remains the best way to play it, followed by PS3's Director Cut edition, and then PC (Steam Deck for me… others would put the PC version a bit higher thanks to D Durante 's fix but it did not seem to work perfectly on Steam Deck where it is a bit of an adventure to setup anyways ;)… also I am not sure if it fixes the issue with the town's buildings windows being borked which was a characteristic of some of the ports).

With regards to controls every game that heavily uses motion controls should be better on the Switch 2 because I've found that the new joycons have noticeably better motion tracking compared to the Switch 1 joycons. For example, using the paintbrush in Okami via the motion tracking and swinging the Sword in Skyward Sword are more accurate and better on the Switch 2 joycons than on Switch 1.

There just aren't enough patched switch 1 games for switch 2 and without a patch they don't look as good as on my Oled switch

Nintendo could fix this partially over night by adding a sidebar option while playing Switch 1 games that allows you to toggle them into Docked mode.

instantly many games would look far better without a patch.
Smash Ultimate would instantly just be 1080p, matching the Switch 2's screen resolution. and the same is true for many games. even if it isn't 1080p and only like 900p or a dynamic resolution, simply having that toggle would improve a shitload of games when playing in handheld mode.

any concerns of sideeffects of this could be waved away by having a warning pop up the first time you use it, telling you that the battery life will be lower and some functions (touch screen stuff) might not work when using it.

No it doesnt. All xeno games are 30fps and still low res. Unless monolith drops patches, we wont have any improvements

I had a look too, and yeah the game seems to be a mess of a port, speed of the game going up and down based on the framerate is terrible

Deadly premonition 2 - 60 FPS

this is why you always have to take lists like this without video evidence with a MASSIVE grain of salt.

testing my physical copy of this and it's an absolute mess still, and not even remotely 60fps unless you are indoors and not in the open world. my guess is that their entire asset streaming system is just broken and can't be bruteforced to work smoothly.

They look like ass on the S2's bigger screen. XC2 is tolerable on my OG switch 1. It looks really bad on the larger display. It cannot be that hard to change the res flag to 1080p and call it a day. Most Sony 1st party devs at least had lazy 30 to 60fps or upressing patches lined up for their games on PS5 release. Even that bare minimum lazy effort seems like extremely generous when compared to the Nintendo 1st party devs.

Indeed, fluctuates a lot outside, the port wasn't a good job in first place, extra performance didn't help

On the original switch Xeno 3 run below 30 fps to low 20s when there are a lot of stuff going on on screen and in some areas. From the videos I saw so far Xeno 3 run smooth on Switch 2 no dips. So even without the improvement patch there are still some improvements not to mention the improved loading time imo.
