Tales of Arise is soon upon us and I am so hyped. The Tales series has been on its longest hiatus ever with a 5 year break.

What's your top 3 Tales games that you played?

Tales of Symphonia, one of my fav games on the Gamecube.

Phantasia felt like a slog after many ours. Also tried the Wii ones but those felt meh.

Excited for Arise tho, seems like a huge step up for the series.

I've never played a Tales game before. Where should I start?

imo Tales of Vesperia. It came out on the 360 but it's the best "modern" tales game imo. (and I believe it's on the Switch)
the other game I voted for was Tales of Eternia (which was called Tales of Destiny 2 in the US)

Not yet try this franchise but tempted since year. Tales of Arise really hyped me.
Interested in Phantasia and Symphonia.

Arise looked great in that first trailer a while ago. Never played a Tales game, but I bought Berseria just a couple days ago. Are any of the games connected (except sequels) or just stand-alones?

For me it's.
1. Tales of Symphonia (NGC)
2. Tales of Eternia (PSP)
3. Tales of the Abyss (PS2)
I think I like the 2D combat more. Plus having a overworld map.

Arise actually looks good.

I've never really been able to get into the Tales series. However, recently bought Vesperia for £7 and actually enjoying it. I tried Zestiria as it was free on ps but the 30fps just killed it for me.
I plan on berseria next.

Do all of them have that one super annoying character. Vesperia has a boy named Karol..ffs and he's top tier trash, ruins every cutscene.

1. Tales of Berseria (Best Story/Characters by far)

2. Tales of the Abyss

3. Tales of Zesteria

Symphonia I haven't played in years I barely remember anything
Tales of Vesperia I've owned for years but it didn't grab me at all
because it was Xbox 360 exclusive in the US I'd say it was a bit overhyped
its a pretty middle of the road as far as tales games go
I'd say Graces/Xilla were kind of a low point for the series
The rest I haven't played yet

Symphonia
Xillia
Destiny

But they need to shake up the series, ideas are wearing very thin with the last installments.

I'm still upset we didn't get a Xillia 1+2 package on the PS4. Or even Symphonia package even though it was ported to PC. No Graces f either. No Xenosaga trilogy remaster either. I have a lot of money to give Bamco but they don't seem to want it.

I never got to try Tales of Berseria, I always wanted to try but I heard its kind of prequel to Zestiria which I really, really didn't liked.

Phantasia and Destiny as the top ones for sure, but for the 3rd I'm split between Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia. Probably Symphonia over them because even though it's not a better game it was more impactful to me at the time

I really hope they do quality ports of some of the classic games, especially Destiny PS2 remake and Destiny 2. Also never got to try Rebirth and it looked pretty interesting

I'm probably going to be one of the few that like Legendia. It's been years since I've played it, but I remember enjoying the return to 2D combat. Graces F was the best combat IMO, and Vesperia is still the gold standard, so I picked those 3. Berseria was pretty good too but it got a little long for me.

Symphonia, abyss and eternia

Eternia I played a shit tone of times on the psp there was so much content on that game so many hidden bosses I had such an amazing time finding them.

I love Tales of Graces f, but my other pick is Eternal Sonata. I love the story and gameplay, especially with the surprise ending.

Played Phantasia GBA(almost finished), Innocence (couple of hours only), Abyss (couple of hours), Symphonia(finished), Xillia (finished) and now I'm playing Vesperia.

To me Xillia >>>>>>>> Phantasia > Symphonia >> Vesperia.

I like Xillia characters, customization, skits and battle system. Didn't care much about the overall story but most character interactions were interesting/funny.

There are many things in Vesperia I like also. Beautiful art style, great protagonist, improved the Symphonia battle system but there are two things that made me prefer the other games: amount of skit/text/cutscenes which breaks the flow of the game severely and, like many games of the PS360 days, it is very linear, with little exploration.

As overall products Destiny Remake, then Berseria, Symphonia or Xillia.

Battle systems I'd do Destiny Remake, Graces F then Rebirth or Berseria
